Hey folks!
I'm now in year 3 of my journey. I started out with Forex, went over Penny Stocks, tried Large Caps and finally transitioned to Futures. After countless gurus, systems and dozens of books I'm finally getting what it's really about.
Ironically the first methodology I've tried 2 years ago and abandoned pretty quick because "it wasn't working", is the one that now starts to show some minor results and I am at a point where I want to make that methodology my own and stick with it. I'll leave the search for the Holy Grail to Indy, I couldn't find it.
I'll mainly use the Journal section to hold myself more accountable and to get some sense of community in this sometimes solitary trading world.

Hi all,

I’ve been successfully trading economic data releases making a full-time living from it since 2009. I’ll share my trade plans here for others to use or discuss.
If your a news trader or are interested in news trading, I hope you find my analysis helpful. I do one-to-one coaching. Remember, news trading especially is hazardous and you should do your own research also. If you have any questions, please ask.
Good Luck
James

Hello all, I am here to learn and contribute. I actively trade /ES and /CL in my cash account and swing equities in IRA. I have had decent success within the past year but need to improve my system. I currently use ToS for both. I would like to have more competitive RT pricing and a more robust platform including DOM to fine tune my strategies .

Hi

Happy to be here, I am finally setting my foot down and beginning my journey towards self sufficiency through trading. However long that is.

Hoping to start with ES or NQ to the point of having a system I can scale. Would love to explore option modeling and quant methods in the long term to add to the arsenal.

I have a background in data analytics and finance so thankfully this is not all foreign but really looking forward to learning more.

Hello lcrb.

My best wishes in your future.

Curious what your background is as far as your understanding of models of trading strategies. Strategy building and testing? Backtesting. Walk-forward testing. And the pitfalls of such?

Maybe I can offer advice. Maybe not.

In any case. Welcome.

Apologies, could have been clearer. Exploring market profiling, order flow, and volume for intraday NQ or ES. I think I could conceptualize a system to transition to trading time on these principles with less of a learning curve. I’d be treating this as my “work” piece.

I use python/pandas a solid amount and figured I might as well put my skills to use and explore quant strategies as well. This would be more the “fun” part. Arb sounds interesting, but mostly because it’s the easiest for me do conceptually understand as of now. Other than that it’s all foreign.

I follow a few quant fund managers on Twitter that like to share a lot of “school-like” hypothetical modeling and examples. Get the impression that quant modeling, especially for a retail or independent trader, should at least for now be more of a “hobby” than an aspiration due to the large cost of having to restructure or scrap a working model if the conditions change. But I could be wrong..

I would still avail yourself to the pitfalls of algo trading first, as then you'll be on stable ground to start your own.

There are some very specific traits exclusive to trading.

As a good start the quant Ernest Chan might be a good fit. He writes extensively and I've heard good things about his credibility.

He's way over my head but if thats you cup if tea.

Cheers

As always just my opinion.
