Hello all,

New here. I'm from the UK and am interested in share dealing. It's all new to me, but my ultimate aim is to day trade abd leave my grueling career behind. I'm very patient and want to honestly learn to trade to progressively, patiently and slowly build up income and value. Hence, no CFD or spread or margins for me. Learned about trading, hearing about Forex three years ago and with all taht hype, I dipped my toes there but too volatile and I guess my personailty is more of a long term investor type hence decided shares would be my main choice. Now, I've been reading excessively about shares and trading and have tried to do as much research as possible and ended up here.

I'm with Hargreaves and Landsdown as UK broker, safe bet, £12 per trade in fees, but would like find a cheaper alternative and have been looking at First Trade or Degiro. Software-wise I am leaning towards Trendspider or TC2000 but I have a Mac. Haven't found any trading courses that teach a beginner after reading the threads on live trading rooms and vendors that scared me, so many scams out there. Although, I have thought about Mark Minervini's Master Trading Programe webinar that's coming up in Novemeber. I haven't so far heard any criticisms and have already ordered his book Stock Market Wizards. It's all a mind field so would welcome any help from fellow members here. I'm committed, no matter how long it takes.

Wealth is built on years of patience and hard work.

F

Hello to all fellow traders.

I have been trading on and off for several years - more off than on. The off was mainly because I had lost all my money, confidence, and trust in the "system". Basically, I never really had a system - still don't have one that I have fully proven to work. I sort of do have a system now and one that would work if I can just stop trying everything else out as well. Discipline and focus are my main stumbling blocks.

The time has come that I must knuckle down and get serious about this. I am now committed to making trading my living from trading as soon as I can. I need to kick my current job and retire to trading. The system I am now concentrating on has been taught to me by a very dedicated trainer and trader, here in Australia. The problem I have with them though is that they charge like hell for their custom indicators. I am a bit of a programmer myself and am always willing to learn something new. I believe that if I know how an indicator has been programmed, I can have greater confidence in it. Today I did a bit of searching for indicators written by traders that do the same (or similar) thing to the indicators I am paying for. I have found a few and they are very good. I now need to learn how they were written and then tweak them to suit my style.

I am sure there are many traders out there that will be able to help me out in my journey. I look forward to colaborating with you all.

To Mike, many thanks for setting up and moderating this site. I am looking forward to being a part of it.

Regards, Ivan

Hi everyone, came across this community from a Linda Raschke Twitter link. The title was August Burnout, I guess some of you watched it. For me after a v good run I recently also had a bit of a painful "August Drawdown". Anyway, I've been here before (been actively day trading for over six years), so can put down to experience.

Looks like a great resource and good community so big thank you to Mike. Hope to find the time to participate a little. I mainly trade major stock indexes (or their derivatives) but also most other things when appropriate (or opportunity beckons). Tip for new traders, generally best to learn one animal first.. I've been trading the Dax a lot recently. For whatever reason, never did too well with bonds (but havent touched them for a good while).

Cheers, and be careful out there.

Hi I'm Zach and I'm really friggin new to all this. I've been seeing all these Motley Fool ads and wonder if its worth the $100 bucks a year?

I don't have a ton of extra money but it seems like investing here and there could be kind of fun- I signed up with etorro though I haven't used it much.

Anyway very happy to learn so thanks for the community big mike!

Zach

Hi, I am from Hong Kong. Stock trading is a national sport in HK. All these years I have been trading occasionally and irrationally. Now I am trying to learn technical analyses properly. Thanks for accepting me to the forum.

Hi everyone,

I'm a equities and options day trader, specifically a scalper. I've been trading the market since 2008, luckily when i entered the stock market I was a Sophomore and a Pre-med major, so just invested few bucks in stocks that I thought would eventually bounce because I thought these companies can never go belly up. For instance MSFT, C, MS, JPM, so it was mere luck that played role in my initial success! This initial success made me change my major to Finance and I thought by the time I'll graduate I'll be a millionaire, oh well that did not happen. I still remember the day I graduate with honors but didn't go to attend the ceremony because I was stuck in a over leveraged futures position and was down about $10.5K on it!

I blew through numerous accounts trying to day trade between 2010-2015 while keeping up with my day job, and it was sometime in 2016 when the light bulb went on for me! I started to see consistent gains and at the end of the year I had made profited similar to what I was making at my day job. That's when I decided that it's time to take this up full time. I took 3 months off at my job, just to see if I can really have the same mind set to make the money that I was making, because now I had the added pressure to pay the bills through my trading income. At the end of the first quarter of 2017, I performed pretty well. So I resigned from my day job and just solely focused on my trading. I'm a scalper so I take quick gains with size, and then I thought why not apply the same strategy to futures, yes I waited for over 2 years to do so because I was doing pretty decent with me equities and options trading, and then in the third quarter of 2019 I started to trade futures and since then have been doing pretty good!

I actually started to trade futures more than equities and options in the first quarter of 2020, but once the day trading margins were increased due to the high volatility because of COVID-19, my focus went back to equities and options. I do trade futures but it only constitute to 10% of my trading activity, and mainly in micro gold and es futures!

I look forward to increasing my futures activity once the day trading margins are back to what they were pre-Covid.

I hope you all are doing great in this market. Wishing you all the best.

Hello to all. I've been a member for four years, but have spent the last 4 years buried in charts and books learning the craft rather than contributing to the forums here. Now that I'm at a point where I feel I can actually contribute something of substance, I will do my best to do so. I focus on swing trading of stocks and intraday futures trading utilizing the Wyckoff/VSA/LPA methods.

Cheers,

GB

Hi everyone,
I've been lurking long enough, so here's the first post!

I'm a futures and equity day trader. There's always more to learn, and that's a big part of what makes this path exciting.
Hope to get to know you all a bit better.

Hi Mike , everyone.
Iím in the UK and got interested in trading in January this year as I wanted to add more to my retirement pot. The more I searched on investments the more day trading popped up. So since then Iíve been reading and watching how to trade. Not been live yet but have a live account with NT so I can use the sim as much as I want. Iím looking at the MES as only want to start small. Using a ATM 1 con for a 4 tick scalp and a runner that breaks even. Trying to practice 2nd entries so any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Regards
Lea

Hi everyone,

I've been a long time reader of the futures.io forum and decided now was a good time to create an account and start contributing to the community.

I started trading actively in 2014 and have made my fair share of mistakes over the last few years. After nearly blowing up my first account in 2018 I took two years off. Now I'm back to hitting the books, developing strategies, and learning as much as I can until I meet the goal of being consistently profitable.

Excited to join the futures.io community and start contributing!

Thanks,

Blake

Welcome to the group,

For years I would see the Motley Fools ad on MSN Home Page and make fun of them, yeah I would be a Fool if I worked with those guys.
Guess what, I finally did work with them and I was amazed how well their stocks did. I don't make fun of them any more.
Fools is primarily for purchasing stocks and as I said I have done good with a fair percentage of their picks.
Of course a lot of it can depend on the status of the stock market, Moving up or moving down over a period of time.

You will find that many folks in this group are into a wide variety of investment avenues, ie stocks, futures, options etc.
Read, listen & learn and enjoy the process, be patient and you will find its very interesting.

Happy Hunting

Hi Everyone,

I'm a senior who would love to enlarge my small portfolio. I'm not afraid to read and work at it but have been very distracted by ads promising easy trading of the experts and just follow their daily decisions.

Then a good friend suggested using Futures Truth to analyze systems out there that I could follow and actually make money. Should I read Top Performing Systems Report or their latest Futures Truth Magazine? So then I searched reviews of Futures Truth reports and found this forum.

So my question is: Can I discover a marketed system that does actually perform profitably. I don't think I want to invest in learning to trade myself without a guide. Maybe I'm not using the correct terminology. Ex: Quant Savvy out of London, Dark Pools by D. R. Barton, One Trade by Michael Carr.

Appreciate any feedback.
Kristen

Well, you did ask for feedback. I do not mean it negatively, but I do want to suggest extreme caution.

First, protect your small portfolio. You have no idea how quickly it can become much smaller, or gone, from trading, especially from trading futures.

Second, no, there is no "marketed system that does actually perform profitably," if by that you mean something that you can just follow and succeed. If someone had such a thing, why would they bother to sell it to you, instead of just getting rich themselves?

Third, no one who is running "ads promising easy trading of the experts and just follow their daily decisions" is going to fulfill their promises. We read stories all the time of traders who believed the hype and lost their money, after shelling out sometimes large fees to the promisers. The same question applies: why do they sell it, if it's really that good?

There are many methods that work, and there are many marketers of products that are useful. None of them can offer quick, easy, large rewards. The most they can do is give you tools. Some can help you use the tools. But you will generally not find what you are currently looking for.

In other words, it really will take you coming to understand what to do and how to do it. This does not mean you have to invent your own "system," just that you will need to understand what you are doing, and will have to make your own decisions, as in any business. And trading is a business.

If I've discouraged you, I'm sorry, but someone should tell you now, not after you have lost some money with some get-rich-quick scheme.

I'm not promoting any system either, but will just say that you can look over the posts here on this forum, ask questions, start a learning process, and go where it takes you. It will not be without effort, and it does have its rewards.

Good luck.

Bob.

Hi,
Happy to join Futures IO, my name is Diego I'm originally from Ecuador, I live in Baton Rouge Louisiana USA.
I trade the RTY, ES and CL, but no simultaneously. I don't use any indicators, I don't use any moving average; I only use levels, context and volume-price analysis; I create hypothesis and manage risk (anticipation yes but never prediction). I'm working in my mindset and in my health everyday. I'm a student of the market and I always will.

Hi Everybody! I have been introduced to Futures Dec 2019 and have been trading on and off. I'm from Toronto, Canada. I would like to setup a corporate trading account and is there another choice for Canadians other than IB. IB wants $112.50x3 per month for live data The reason I liked IB was they have all the products Futures, Forex, Stocks and Options all together, however paying $300 a month for data in this internet age doesn't make sense. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

I feel your pain re: Interactive Brokers. You are a quicker study than I am. I paid for their cruddy data for several months before I wised up.

I was with these guys in Canada for a few months last year. They can probably steer you to a good broker. But you migght want to read some of the reviews of AMP on this forum:

Futures charts, data feed and brokers explained.

God speed your trading!

Not sure if you are talking about $300+ for three CME futures exchanges, CME, BBOT, NYMEX for instance, or for forex, stocks and options data too.
If the former it is probably because you want to set up a corporate trading account rather than a personal trading account, therefore the CME classify you as a professional trader and will charge you their professional data fees on your account, rather than their low non-professional fees.

Thank for you the updates. I did come across AMP Global (all in one MT5 platform) for Futures and Forex. However have to check the review again, they have mixed feedback so not sure how good they are.

BTW I did setup IB as corp and they consider it has a pro account and still want $300+ per month. When I gave them the symbols for Futures that is pricing I was quoted. Stocks and Options data no charge.

Welcome to futures IO!

If you are a traditional newbie I would suggest Adam Grimes Market Life Trading course "The Art and Science of Trading". He is a clear eloquent speaker on the subject of trading and it is an extremely comprehensive course. I of course being a newbie myself, am still working on it and still amazed at Adam. And its free, believe it or not.

Good luck and happy trading!

Aloha Everyone! I began trading MArch of 2019 with the idea that I was going to get rich overnight. Boy was I so wrong. I lost $50,000 trading penny stocks. I had a few big green days, but that was mere luck. I was then forced to turn to the Emini ES futures contracts since I don't have to follow the PDT rules. Then I bought the lifetime subscription with Ninja Trader and funded my account with just enough to use the simulator and begin my trading rehab. I have been trading in the simulator for about three months now and have continued to build the account slowly. I have learned to be patient and stock key entry points in order to have successful trades. I am trading way less than before and ending my days green. I am committed to managing the psychological aspect of trading, for I have discovered that in there lies the key.
Anyway, I look forward to participating in any future discussions and hope to meet other fellow traders. Remember, be a predator and wait for that prey to show itself before you take any ol'trade. Happy trading everyone!

Hello everyone, I have been trading stocks for 4 years, I had good and bad moments, in general I was able to keep the account stable.

I have been trying to develop my automatic system in Ninjatrader for a few months and this forum is the expert community on the subject. I hope to learn from the experience of others so as not to make the same mistakes and I hope to contribute my grain of sand for whoever needs it.

Regards

Thanks for your so honest post. I too feel clueless when I study futures so I can empathize with you. I too keep plugging away, especially on reading charts which I figure is key to understanding the futures market. Some fundamentals can't be ignored I reckon, but it is hard to know which of them makes the most sense - or to keep up with them. Keep plugging away! I am with you in that

Hello everyone,

My name is Michael and I've just started funding my trading account.

I've spent years reading up different perspectives and the Elliot wave principle theory before I felt confident demo trading.

I look forward to learning a lot from this community, and plan to advance my trading with fresher confidence.

Thank you so much for letting me be apart of this community.

Hello everyone,

I am a new trader and a new member of this forum. I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself.

My primary interest is day trading futures. I am also interested in stocks. For now, I am trying to master one skill at a time, so I am focused on MES and ES futures.
I started self-educating myself with books and videos. Its been a steep learning curve since I started four months ago and I am aware of how much more I need to learn. I did a couple of bad trades in a row in the recent market pullback. I decided to go back to studying and analyze my mistakes.

I started with a small account and haven't blown it up. yay! I am approaching trading as a business and my main goal to be able to make consistent income before raising the risk.

I am happy that I found this community.
Cheers,

Hi all,

Nice to meet you all. I have been trading options for a while now with mostly credit spread/csp strategy and is profitable. I would like to educate myself more with futures trading and see if thatís an area I would like to invest myself into. Currently I am trying out different platforms and learning the different styles of trading to see which one I want to spend more time on.

I have a small account in IBKR that I will be using to papertrade/small 1 lot mes trades and trying to figure out if I want to spend more time on learning the order flow or use that in conjunction with vwap. Will see

Hi Big Mike and all. I started my futures journey about three years ago. I started off with doing a couple of futures trading courses, followed by a lot of sim trading, i am now live trading profitably after a couple of failed attempts. I trade the ES with NT. I joined this site for the community and to keep up to date with the industry.

Cheers

Hi all. Just another hobbyist trader here. Been trading stocks and options for a few years, but have been getting into futures (ES mostly, also RTY) in recent months. Have done some experiments with algo trading as well, with limited success. Using SierraChart for futures/algo and TOS for my stocks and options trading.

Have read several threads that I was linked to by Google from this forum and decided to join myself!

When I'm not exercising my profession as a simultaneous language interpreter (English, Spanish, and Portuguese), I'm focused on trading. Since the mid 1980s I've been fascinated with the markets. I was a rookie stockbroker in 1987 when the crash shredded the few customers I had in my account book. I held that job just long enough to know that I didn't want to be a stockbroker, I wanted to be a trader.

I didn't have any capital at all, so I began trading single options in large cap names. Later in the 80s I got burned playing with a pork bellies futures contract. I was in South America for most the 1990s Ė disengaged from the markets Ė so I missed out on the dot-com boom. In 2010 I was back in options (never had the 25k to day trade, so I had to make each day's trade or two really count). Then, in 2012-2014 I got involved in trading futures (ES and NQ). I've been hooked since, but I've also blown up twice.

After a few years away from the markets, I returned this year. The difference this time around is that I have approached my trading as a business I aspire to build. I've become a devoted student of trading, have developed a handful of trades that give structure to my daily work. And I've discovered the joys of being consistently profitable. Of course, I'm still capable of sabotaging my own wins from time to time Ė but I'm improving.

I like to use golf and sailing as metaphors when I speak of trading. The names of my 3 setups in my playbook are: Drive, Chip, and Putt. Sailing terms are for risk management: reef in the sail, let out the sheet, return to harbor, wait until tomorrow, Destination not ETA, etc.

So, glad to be here. I look forward to learning from those who gather here to talk trading!

I love the sailing metaphors.

I'm a pilot (private pilot, flying bugsmashers) and I find that the risk management concepts and skills I learned during training for my pilot certificate apply very neatly to trading. I expect that sailing has very similar concepts that are applicable.

Looking to explore the threads, and learn and share. I think I've tested about 3 million different indicators, in many different configurations, so would love to hear what others have been using.

Always looking to learn, or share experience.

Thanks, and be well,

Hi Everyone!

My Name Is Jerome and i just joined the forum.
I have been trading for quite a while now (a bit professional and more on the side).
My goal is to finally jump a level upwards.

I used to trade fx with metatrade but brokers issues were quite tough.
After reading some systems trading books i decided this was the way to go.
Since tradestation is highly recommended in this area i joined them and im just trying tonlearn the easylanguage coding and backtesting before going live.

Good trading!

Jerome

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for the opportunity to join this forum.
In the past I blew up my Philip Capital account. They charge to much for withdraw to Europe.

I'm starting all over again. I have to approach it as a job and not as a hobby.
I use a sim account on NT 8.

Know I'm looking for a broker and good affordable data provider.

Hoping to learn a lot here

Hello Everyone,

My name is Andrew. Happy to be here. I am relatively new to trading. I started dabbling around trading in Sept 2018 and blew 30% of a pretty sizable account before getting frustrated and walking away after about six months. I returned in August and made back everything I lost earlier, plus an additional 20%. As luck would have it, I lost 70% of that total during the downtrend that started on September 3rd. Feels like I'm swimming up a creek without a paddle.

I struggle with an exit strategy and risk management so I'm hope I'll be able to learn a few things here. I doubt that I will be able to contribute much at the moment, but I hope to do that as my experience improves.

Andrew

Hi folks. Jwilly here. I joined about a month ago but due to technical difficulties I'm off to a very slow start.

About me; I'm from the state of Michigan. I spent my teen years on a small farm milking cows by hand and making crops, so it's natural for me to trade grains and meats. I don't use very many indicators in my trading. Mostly I trading the price action. I like to brag that I'm still trading my original account. When I drew it down to $296 I quit trading and got some help. I'm not as active in the markets as I once was and my targets are not as far out as before.

I'm looking forward to inter-acting went with some of you folk now that I have found a friendly forum.

Thanks and best of good trades to you all.

Hi Everybody,

I've been trading options since the early 1990's. I worked for a few big high tech companies as a product manager in silicon valley and it seems like my skills and age are no longer wanted in the work force? After my third liberation at the end of 2019 I turned to trading full time.

I started trading futures in 2006 but didn't have any luck. I started swing trading options on gold futures this year. After being high and mighty making over 30K, I blew up my account. Now I'm modeling some algo's using TradeStation trying to autotrade the S&P 500 futures. My engineering buddies and I are trying to use Artificial Intelligence with a direct pipe into TDAmeritrade to see if we can consistently make money.

I've researched the MACD, DI+, DI-, DMX and putting this all together. Seems like sometimes these indicators pay off and other times it's a waste of time. By reading a few online forums, it seems like everyone is looking for the holy grail of trading.

I watched BigMikes Multichart video on youtube which brought me to futuresio.

I look forward to some healthy discussions on this forum. Any advise on indicators will be greatly appreciated.

DanO

Hi,

I'm a beginner and been daytrading/scalping for about 6 months now... blew up my account once and realized that this isn't as easy as youtubers would have you believe. Like everything worth doing, there is a real skill that needs development to be successful. Taking it slow and learning the craft one strategy at a time. Doing alot of backtesting now and trading on paper account before risking real money. I trade mostly one MES/MNQ contract with a daily target of $50-100 and switching to sim trading after hitting my target. The goal is to be more consistent and add contracts as my account grows. i'll go back to trading ES/NQ at some point in the future.

I really love the challenge of daytrading/scalping. Hope to do this for years to come.

Hello EV1, I hope that this is the place that I am looking for. I am new to trading, usually I would just let my 401k be managed by my work funded account. But I have this itch that has been with me for a long time, that itch wants me to try my hand at managing my own trades. I have been searching the web and mostly felt lost due to the amount of programs out there for new traders... yea right, they just want my money. I found futures.io and this is looking hopeful.

Hi Everyone!

I love trading the futures - especially the ES. I use the Infinity Platform for trading and Think or Swim for my charts.
I have been trading for over 30 years and trading futures for over 7 years.
Mostly trade the first 1 1/2 hours once the market opens up. Actually, I don't trade for the first 15 minutes when the market opens because it's too volatile and choppy.

Use to load lots of indicators and it's true you are better off just focusing on the most important indicators and getting rid of all the clutter on the charts and in your brain.

Good luck trading,
GrizzX

Thank you for letting me join Mike.

I am fairly new to stocks trading. Tried regular stocks and options. Then I stumbled across Futures trading. and I've been hooked. Been going at it for a few months. I have tried paper trading and it doesn't fit my style to paper trade. I have blew a few small accounts in my learning process. So I am here to learn and gather much more information before I continue to blow up some more small account on MES.

My daily goal is merely 12 total points on MES. Which is quite insanely hard for a newbie like me. But That's my goal for the time being. Once I can consistently get 12 points for a few weeks then maybe I'll switch to ES.

Looking forward to learn from everyone here.

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum. I started trading futures this spring and so far I still have my original account 😀, although some losses were suffered. I had two years experience from Forex trading. I am a scalper who is still looking for a definitive strategy/plan when to enter and when to exit. Tried longer trades, but do not have the patience or ability to let the winners run. On the other hand scalping is a way for me as I have satisfying results with it. Looking mainly for automated strategies and general experience/ skills of trading futures. Thanks for your welcome.

Hello, Just trying to figure out how to provide some insight but I cannot reply to anything yet. It says I need 10 posts but I don't think I have enough to talk about for 10 posts. Just wanted to reply to some indicator forums as I have some experience with creating and using commercial indicators. Oh well I guess I'll just keep watching

Hello Fellow Traders!!!!!!

My name Paul and I've been trading for now close to 20yr. with varied results. I love to trade!!!! However, I've have not been able to QUIT MY JOB!!!!! ANYONE KNOW WHAT I MEAN LOLOL!!!! I still make many of the same old mistakes MANY OF US DO!!! Over trading, revenge trading, getting in to late or to early, over leveraging to make up on losing trades and the list goes on!!!! I think my personal behavior patterns have a lot to do with my trading most definitely. I've finally learned my behaviors and am rectifying after 20yrs. I really need you guys to keep me focused. I want to thank Big Mike and the rest of Futures.io team for keeping this site going for traders like me.

Paul

Hi Mike and others,
I signed up last night to read the posts. I have been trading MNQ on TOS but still trying to decide on a platform/brokerage to move to eventually.

Thanks for creating the forum and great content.

It depends on what kind of trading you want to do but TradeStation is probably near the top of many peopleís list. Especially algo traders. Iíve heard good things about multi charts as well but I have stuck with TradeStation.

jburke,
Tradestation is a platform I have been considering. But, I have a few accounts with several other brokerages: Interactive Brokers, Tastyworks, and Fidelity. I donít find their platforms to be useful for trading. I will move an account to Tradestation for order types, placement, and order/trade matrix. Are you on Tradestation 10? Are there any issues that they have not fixed yet?

However, for futures trading, I am not sure if another platform is better suited. A few of the traders who blog and vlog use order flow and depth to trade and will try out jigsaw and bookmap.

I have been reading and watching several videos about Tradestation and other platforms: Ninja Trader, Jigsaw, Bookmap, Tradovate, etc. I have to take in to account commissions as they can add up.

I currently use TradeStation 9.5 and they will have to drag me kicking and screaming to 10.0. I am very wary of any software update that may mess with my strategies. Iíve looked into other platforms as well but for what I use it for (algorithms) TradeStation is good and the commissions are decent. I donít use the dom or anything where personal discretion is used. All my trading consists of mechanical systems.

Thanks jburke for the quick reply. What algorithms do you use and what futures do you trade?

At some point, will they sunset 9.5? I noticed lot of people not upgrading to 10. How difficult is it to upgrade your strategies to 10?

Right now I trade MES, M2K CL, QM, NG, and MGC. The algos are mostly ones I got from Kevin Davey and other online sources. Art Collins is another resource I have used. I joined the strategy factory club earlier this year and that is a huge resource for algos. A lot of the algos are some form of breakout strategy.

Hi everyone, I am a 100% systematic stock trader now looking to trade systematic futures strategies for diversification. I have been learning about futures for a few months and this forum has been of great help. Looking forward to continue my learning journey while sharing my knowledge if it can be helpful to anyone. Thank you.

Welcome NHaider. Technically, there are few things to be considered in Futures trading due to its nature. as you are aware, futures has an expiration date differ from one to another, tick point value, margine, time of trading and others. Since you mentioned that you are 100 systematic, you need to study those things to define the general layout of your futures strategy.
Furthermore, I would suggest to study the co-relation between diversified futures strategies to mitigate your "basket" risk.
Best wishes

Thanks for the suggestions and wishes Robot.. appreciated. You have to change your midset quite a bit for trading futures if you are used to stocks. The biggest challenge I am having is in strategy evaluation for futures.. compounding works somewhat differently for futures (in stocks you can immediately increase the position size with your profits) and hence CAGR will have a somewhat different interpretation. So.. still learning and would need all the luck and wishes :-)

Hello, I'm new here.* I'm making the permanent move to futures trading for several reasons, many of which are shared by you all.
The edge that I've backtested in the stock market doesn't work in ES, from what I can see (I'm going to concentrate on ES until I get my footing), so I'm on the search for an entry point that I can start backtesting.* That's not an implicit request for someone to share their edge, I have enough experience trading stocks to know that an edge is personal and doesn't necessarily 'transfer'.

Here's one of my challenges: at this point, I have the first 30 minutes of the open to trade.* I know this isn't ideal, but it's my current situation.* I can still passively monitor things, but I can't hawk it like I can for the first 30.* My assumption is that this is going to make things a bit difficult.

Anyway, I read through a lot of posts before joining and very quickly jumped on the elite membership.* I already appreciate the knowledge I've been exposed to.

Thanks and best of results to you!

Have you considered changing your style to EOD charts rather than intraday?
Wouldnt it be easier if you had a style that only had to enter orders at the start of the day (first 30min) and then leave it?
Pushing for an intraday trade in the first 30min only is seriously tough.

I hadn't, but I will now! I don't have a lot of experience with futures, so my ears are wide open to these kinds of things. Thank you!

Good morning,

I have been trading for about 5 years, mostly stock and bond index futures plus plus oil and gold. Even though I don't work long days, waiting for a setup is a great test of patience and frankly somewhat boring. I am interested in ways to automate my trading, since my trading is strictly rules based.

Thank you.

Al
