Hi everyone,
Been trading options and stocks for five years now.
Just discovered Ninja Trader and day trading.
Have had some success sim trading but still not
ready to go live yet. Hopefully this site will help
make the transition profitable.
Hello All,
I'm a newbie to the site and to the world of trading (about 1 yr into it). When I found this site a few weeks ago I dove into the info presented with a vengeance. Super info here. However I'm a FIRM believer in "nothings free", nor should it be. I have little experience making money this way, and plenty of experience losing money this way. As long as the wife doesn't find out how much I lost I live to trade another day (kids don't really need a college fund do they-a few online courses should be enough for them). I really have little to contribute that you all would find useful. You folks are so much smarter at this and that is why I became a Elite member. It doesn't directly help you all but this site is so useful to me that contributing to it financially is the only way I really have to help.
Anyhow, thanks for having me here and thanks to all the work you folks put into the community. I really hope as I learn more and become better at writing some code, I can share and give a bit back.
Special thanks to Big Mike for putting it all together.
I have been trading for over 10 years now. I was originally introduced to trading by a piece of postal mail I got from Ken Roberts. I'm sure some of you out there know who that is....
So I started trading in Futures, and have since moved on to Forex! I have blown up my account many times, but have slowly become a better trader over time. I am currently trading a Forex account. I was trading at FxPro but they dropped their US clients like a Hot Iron! So now I'm trading a small account with a new broker testing them out. I don't use a fake trial account, I don't believe that is the best way to see how they really operate! I'm not totally pleased with my current broker, and I'm thinking about trying out Tadawul next. Anybody have any experience with them?
I am more of a swing trader. Actually, I'm more of a momentum trader. I don't always trade with or against the trend, I tend to just go where the momentum is. I use range bars, moving averages, momentum and divergence indicators.
Looking forward to reading the posts here and learning/discussing new ways for all of us to become better traders!
New to futures.io (formerly BMT). Been trading stocks over the past 10 years but very sporatically. Have gotten into futures. Have had some education and hope to contribute and benefit from this site.
Live in Annapolis, MD but root for Army (veteran).
Waiting for the ring of the bell!!
Ahh a fellow Satriani fan! He's my fav man.. I'll listen to him sometimes when I'm looking over charts. Who's your fav Andy?
Helo I havent blown out my first account yet but fully intend to.I have metatrader and Ninja trader running on alot of screens and am interesting in 5 wave counts, bid ask studies ,and fibo retracements.I regret that NT doesnt have pesavento studies since I figure they are a strong tool on retracement fib pullback entries .Im a strong fan of the trendline since it allows me to count waves .Im interested in yest H and Low.Thanks and thanks Big Mike.Go cowboys
I have been playing in the Stock Market for a few years trading stocks and options.
I did not have any strategy, just going at it head first using my gut feeling - now stop laughing! I know you know the result.
Couple weeks ago I was at a seminar about ThinkorSwim and I had a rude awakening for short I did not know crap about trading and was just wasting my time and hard earned money.
The conclusion was to get educated. So I am starting to learn about trading stuff like indicators and strategy, trading platforms and data feeds, etc.
After searching the net I found NT and the whole future day trading methods that sparked my interests. I also found a few forums loaded with information, some times too much information is not good for a beginner.
I decided to join this forum because it feels more personal, like a family and Mike sounds very honest and experienced. I found out that there are also a few dedicated contributors that support this forum and make it valuable.
Since I can't contribute to this forum with knowledge I will start by making a $50 donation to show my appreciation.
Thank you all!
My name is George and I'm a 13 year trader that trades the forex full time. I have moderated a few forum sites and enjoy sharing new ideas, systems, indicators and my experiences. I've developed several forex systems mostly in metatrader and never sold a forex system. I believe in sharing and giving away things for free.
I have mentored around 30 traders in the past for free and most are now full time traders. My belief is that the best way to learn how to trade is to find someone that is already successful and find out how he thinks and learn everything he does.
Thanks for allowing me to join your forum and I hope I can be an asset to this group.
The following 3 users say Thank You to CTGUY for this post:
This is Jack. Jack lives in Bali Zoo, which is halfway on the road from Denpasar to Ubud. Jack lost his prior job in Jakarta, because he was not well behaved. One of his favourite occupations is throwing melons and papayas at visitors.
ScienceDaily (June 18, 2009) — New evidence underscores the theory of human origin that suggests humans most likely share a common ancestor with orangutans, according to research from the University of Pittsburgh and the Buffalo Museum of Science. Reporting in the June 18 edition of the Journal of Biogeography, the researchers reject as "problematic" the popular suggestion, based on DNA analysis, that humans are most closely related to chimpanzees, which they maintain is not supported by fossil evidence.
Let us come back to Jack. He is sitting in his enclosure and is basically bored most of the day. Whenever a visitor approaches, he throws some of his melons and papayas. He throws at everybody, although he should focus on women in high heels, retired Western tourists and little children for maximum enjoyment. Most of the time he also hits too early, before the visitors can even get close to him. He's a bad timer. Actually he reminds me a typical trader - he does not prepare his hunt, is undisciplined and lacks the patience to wait for a rewarding target.
I don't identify with Jack, but we might have common forebears and common instincts. Now you know that I am not a creationist.
I have been trading off and on for about 4 years and have basically treaded water. I purchased Ninjatrader because I like the idea of autotrading a routine that I created. I believe I am on the right track to developing an automated strategy and am looking for more indicators and ideas.
The buzz around this forum seems like a nice place to increase my education. If/when I find some success, I'll be glad to share my knowledge. For now though, I still consider myself a rookie.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and information. I look forward to being able to contribute some value to the cause.
I am new here and I am new to the trading world. I am not working atm and would like to take to opurtunity to study so I can NEVER AGAIN work for my boss. I would like to take trading and treat it as a bussiness, I want to succeed and I am determid to do so. Please feel free to post me, just like a baby me too cant survive wthout mum, so please help me and guide me through. Ps. My first question to you all is where to I get a training course perf. offline that is none of the bull crap get rich today sceams, xoxo
Welcome to your new home. I am new on here too but have no experence at all in the trading field. My goal is to learn how to trade and use it as a sole income, trading fulltime. I want to succeed and I dont want to ever work for anyone but myslef. Could you please stair me into the right direction. I wanting to take part in a course that covers the basics so I can be on my merry way towards my goal. I dont mind taking th time to study and do not want any short cuts. looking foward to hearing from you.
I am a new trader and I'm lucky to find this treasure trove of trading info in one place.
I came to your website by accident and I'm glad I found it. Since I'm new to trading
I'll probably be asking more questions than making useful contributions to this forum,
I hope that is OK.
I found this site through Ninjatrader which I use for my charting platform. I trade the Aussie Share Price Index Futures and I am a Prop Trader with an Australian Firm.
Hey, 21 years old, been trading for the past year with mixed success, finished college last semester and decided to stay with trading on my own for now. I've been putting in some long hours to get where I want to be, but I have much more work to get there. It's been a fun and rewarding journey so far, hope to share some of it here!
I have dabbled in trading over the years, but i would now like to take a more professional approach to it all.
Right now, i am only interested in observing different strategies and learning the art of backtesting and system development.
Up until now my backtests were time consuming and consisted of going over past charts manually and writing down the results on a pad 'n paper.
Then, i stepped it up to creating a spreadsheet in excel that will do all the calculations for me and allow for flexibility in changing values for exits, stops, MA values etc.
I have finished my spreadsheet, with the help of a private tutor, but have now come to realise it's limitations.
The main thing for me is i was limited to daily historical data and this ensured there was way too much room for error when determining if a stoploss was hit first or a profit target.
Add a few other limitations like visual authentication, portfolio testing and multiple instruments and i began to realise that excel may not be the best way to go about it.
Basically i just want to be able to run fairly accurate back tests. Why does this seem so hard?
I don't want to subscribe to a data vendor at this stage, i have used esignal in the past, but i was no where near being profitable and i was spending hundreds of dollars a month on data which was a lost cause.
I have looked everywhere on the internet and can't seem to find any free historical intraday data to import into NINJATRADER.
I am now willing to pay disktrading.com $20 an instrument for the privilige of historical data. (if anyone knows of NINJATRADER ready historical data please let me know how to get my hands on it).
My efforts are now focused on learning how to use NINJATRADER. i only want to use it for backtesting for now. I think the help and support for new users is terrible, and i find it really disheartening to read posts on forums from programmers and trading experts that are having problems with NINJATRADER. If they can't do it how the hell am i supposed to??
If there is anyone in Australia that i could talk with or help me get things started i would really appreciate the chance to learn from your experiences.
Other than that i guess i will have to just wait until i get some historical data into the platform and start to learn it from there.
Glad to join this forum. I am a newbie in the world of trading and hope to use this forum to learn and earn.
Special thanks to VictorK for mentioning this site. Many Many thanks to Big Mike for supporting all the members. I do plan to become an Elite Member at a later date.
Hello traders. I found Big Mike's Trading a while back but have really not been on the site much until recently because of a friend referring to the site often. This is a wonderful site with a ton of good information. I've been trading futures and stocks for about 8 yrs now and a couple of years ago finally acheived consistent profitability. It was a struggle and I almost quit on more than one occasion. I finally dumped all but the most simple indicators and started trading Price Action exclusively. In my opinion........Price Action is the only reliable way to trade these futures markets. Can't really say that about stocks but it is very reliable for the futures. Takes a lot of screen time though. At least it did for me anyway. Good luck to all and I hope to be a regular visitor to the site from here on out.
The following user says Thank You to wingz for this post:
I'm a beginner part-time trader. So far I mostly experimented with options only. I'm interested in risk management, system development, and trading ideas.
I'm new to trading and have only recently discovered I seem to have a passion for it. So far I've been trading options and some ETFs but I am looking to explore what NT has to offer. Thanks for providing all the great info here! I look forward to contributing what I can.
Am located just outside Toronto, follow the 6E market (EUR/USD). Glad that Mike has set this forum up, creating a fantastic community, lots of camaraderie with no hidden agenda. Thanks a billion...
Alex.
futures.io (formerly BMT) was suggested to me by someone on another forum. I'm a C# programmer and have dabbled with futures and stocks over the past several years. I currently work for a medium sized trading firm and am looking into learning more about the trading side.
I've used NT for the past year and started a NinjaScript consultancy service that I work on during the evenings and weekends. Just meeting and interacting with various traders has been pleasure enough.
I'd like to know how some of these basic indicators work and what makes traders think that some of these mathematical indicators would work...Personally I'm of the camp that TA and Indicators work because everyone else is using them.
I'm looking into trading the ES using NT. Let me know if you have any questions regarding NinjaScript. I'm looking to learn as well =).
thanks!

I have been trading for the last 3 years, with recent success, due to finally applying discipline on a second to second basis. Look forward to hearing new ideas and being part of good things.
Cheers, Dtrader999
Hello fellow traders. I've been lurking at Big Mike's for a while now, and I decided it was time to introduce myself. A friend of mine got me interested in trading almost exactly a year ago, and I have spent many hours devoted to it since then. I set up a TOS account, but I have not yet funded it (the money is safely tucked away in my savings account). I am pretty hesitant to make that first trade, and don't want to do so until I feel like I know what I am doing.
I am a software engineer by trade with 10+ years experience in different languages including C, Java, .NET and others. The first time I opened a trading platform and realized I could use my programming skills to help my trading, my jaw nearly hit the floor. It seems like this hobby is practically made for me!
TOS ThinkScript is too limited for my tastes, so I am using NinjaTrader and programming a lot of my own indicators. I have 1 month of ES tick data from Aug-Sept 2009, and I keep coding indicators and scenarios. I am always searching for that perfect set of indicators to give me that much-needed edge. And the search continues....
I look forward to joining this community of traders. I have much to learn, but I enjoy this and hope to one day feel like I know what I am doing.
First thanks for having me.
From Barcelona (Spain).
Trying to learn and giving thanks for sharing, to collaborate with you. We will go step by step. Thank you all for bearing.
Hey Mike,
I found this forum and have been lurking a little while and decided to join. I've been mostly a trader in stocks for many years. I've tried a lot of different instruments and strategies. Looking to collaborate, learn more. Specifically I want to learn how to succesfully day trade the eminis / maybe forex.
Same sad story here, lost lots of $$ and part of my emotional stability. LOL, 2 heart attacks and bypass surgery. ...... I like the TF-CL-GC. Starting to watch the FX futures as well.......I looking forward to dialoging with y'all
I joined this forum to get some help with the different ideas of how different people see and trade the markets. Everyone has their own understanding of the charts.
I had been a part-time trader for about 2.5 years while I was working. I have already blown away 2 LIVE accounts when I wasn't really ready (knowledgeable enough) to go LIVE. I like to trade the Russell, Soybeans and Euro markets. Recently I have also begun following Crude Oil. Overall,
I have not been very successful to date, mostly due to bad discipline but I'm working on trying to improve in that area.
I am currently working in SIMULATION until I have the confidence to go LIVE on a daily basis and stay profitable. When I do trade, I seem to win some, lose some, but have not been good at staying on the plus side End-Of-Day consistently.
Hope I can contribute to this forum from time to time, and hope to get to know some more traders here.

I see that you use the cci in your trading. I've recently been doing some reasearch on the cci myself. I'm wondering if you would share your approach and set ups?
I first got started day trading stocks, spending most of my effort looking for stocks that were “popping”. And I paid my tuition to the market gods.
Then I learned about the futures markets which pop every day.
I follow both the YM and ES, focusing more on the ES cause a consistent 4-5 tics on this beast is a great thing.
I wake every morning fired up to read and take advantage of what the market prints.
Self control, focus and following the game plan are key components to success.
I believe volume comes before price movement.
I believe order flow and order volume at the bid/ask are great indicators of things to come.
I believe correctly reading price action is a key component to success.
Watch for and run with the heard, getting out with only what I need.
Institutions take advantage of trapped traders, so you should too.
Consistently and repeatedly do what you do, then and only then add more contracts.
I am on the fence about indicators being the math-head, engineer by training that I am. But I will admit reading price action on a clean 5min chart with just the EMA20 is so easy - in hindsight It's amazing what just 10 seconds of hindsight does for clarity. Wait for the bar to close.
I use to believe I could create the mother of all differential equations to solve this problem. I have recently come to the conclusion there simply are far too many, ever changing unknowns to this problem. Keeping things simple, it's akin to writing an equation to predict the path a drip of water will follow on a sheet of glass, as the glass is randomly tipped around while being exposed to varying types of weather phenomenon ranging from a calm day to a category 5 hurricane.
I have come to the conclusion this simply cannot be done with today’s technology.
So I study price action – thanks Al Brooks, Malcolm Robinson, Lance Biggs, Joe Ross, Alan Farley, Edwards and McGee, J. Murphy, M. Pring, Jack Hershey, and numerous others works I have studied.
The following 2 users say Thank You to tulanch for this post:
Your explanation is like the scene in Jurassic Park when Malcolm explains how a drop of water's path can not be determined.
That, to me is part of the path to success in trading, only the probability can be estimated. Like Mark Douglas says - you don't have to be Right (all the time) to make $$$.

i've been trading for a few years now. i got started in equities, attempting swing-trades (altho i didn't know it was called that at the time). i switched gears a few years back after learning about scalping, NinjaTrader, and the futures markets (specifically the ES, NQ, ZN, and YM).
i've bought a few courses and made a couple attempts at consistently trading someone else's system manually. it's been a mixed-bag. altho i've had brief periods of profitability, i have discovered quite a talent for being able to lose money on any given day, in any market, regardless of whether it's trending or range-bound, if i really put my mind to it.
i'm currently working on an automated strategy and have enjoyed looking at some of the code in the downloads section. thanks to all who have shared their work! i've written a few custom indicators over in the ninja forums for people and may try my hand at a few requests over here as well.
I strarted trading futures 1 year from now, I trade only S&P emini,
I use NinjaTrader as my platform.
It is difficult to find new working setups but it's
what I'm searching usually everyday.
Tired to watch various charts at the same time and considering
that a single indicator or setup entry could be not valid I've started,
thinking what could confirm a useful one.
My favourite indicators are Footprint & Supertrend.
Hope this forum help me in someway.
Thanks for creating this forum. I've been reading many of the informative posts here and have been learning quite a bit from everyone. I'm looking to become more consistent with my trading and to get my emotions under control while trader. I hope to get to know many of you much better in the coming days.
What is there to say..... I have been trading stocks and stock options since I was 19 - that makes me old enough to remember trading without a plush online platform.
I am fascinated with futures, especially the ES and YM. My trading methodology is summed up in this manner: a little old school and a little new.
I hope to learn from all traders on this forum. Currently, I instruct at a college and I teach my students that, as a collective whole, they know more than me. I truly wish that for everyone on this forum. I am ready to learn.
Quick intro post here as I have just recently discovered the website.
I have solely been trading options and currencies for the last couple of years, with consistency only recently visiting the account. Futures has incredibly fascinated me as of late, and have been trying some breakout range type trades on /ES only. I look forward to reading many hours here, and sharing what little bit of wisdom I have gained along the way.
I have been in the business a spell from floor runner, clerk, desk phone orders, and working for a large local group in all markets with my own 3mo options book. I always had kind people helping along the way A favorite quote : A measure of success is not what you have it is what you give back! Glad to be here.

My name is Terry and I am about to be 54 years old. I have blown out a couple of account in my day. I like trading the ES with ninja trader. I also have multicharts. Seems like I always have a bunch of good day trading in a month and then one bad trading day and the bad day takes away from all the good. This is a little about me.
In the past, I blew up my account.
Now I am just a guy on a journey of patience and discipline.
I plan to start a journal here to teach me how to fish (properly).
Greetings everyone...I just re-found this site from another trader. Lots of good stuff here!
As the handle says...yes, I'm a dad of 3 boys and 3 girls...so imagine my time limitations
I'm 50 and trying ... slowly to trade...
I've been trading for about 5 years, equities. 3 years on and off via the mini market. I must stand up and say that ... I am not proffitable, and hence have not daytraded traded in a year. Taking a break I guess....waiting for that special time.
I have NT and saw a divergence indicator in the NT forum site. I played with it a little and created D3SpotterV1 in Nov 2009. I had great hopes for it... and now I've created V3 (I just posted it here). There has been a few people interested in it so I've been sending it to them in hopes that it helps them. One gentleman mentioned that it didn't find hidden divergence, will I think V31 will. Take a look and any and all comments are very welcome!
I wish to thank Big Mike's day trading forum and I hope that I can learn and participate in this forum. I have experience in ninja trader and mt4 and I am always looking for better indicators to help me develop into a better trader
Since I personally don't have experience in this area, I am relying on the support from you guys to start threads and share your programming experience and indicators.
Hello everyone...trying to get my feet wet but have been paying a price in the market. I demoed for a while and thought I had the hang of it and then ate it when I was (and still am) live trading. Im about at my wits end but I vowed to never give up!
Hi everyone. I’m really excited about joining in this forum. I taught myself trading back in 1999, was overwhelmed with all the indicators and methodologies, struggled through the tech wreck of 2000 and finally blew out my trading account in 2003. It was a miserable and humbling experience. But I really caught the bug and am back after a 7-year absence, finally having the time to devote to it.
I have taken a course and updated my tools. I was a big TradeStation user - now I’m using QCharts but taking a very hard look at NinjaTrader. The only instrument I’m trading is the ES and absolutely love it. ‘Still not where I want to be but think I’m close to turning the corner on trading profitably-consistently. I live and breathe this stuff - I just hope I can make money at it.

Hello everyone,
I started trading Live Cattle futures about 20 or more years ago for about 2 years on and off. My idea was to learn the personality of one commodity and trade that only. However I never learned to manage my own personality and I was not able to make money because of that. Luckily I did not have much money to lose. I just got interested again in trading and am looking forward to trying again.
P.S. I was one of the first charter members of the Murray Math (CLUB?)
It is all a distant memory now:=)
Hello,
I am a veteran of the CME trading floor. I started as a runner on the floor in 1977. I ran a foreign currency arbitrage operation on the floor from 1978-1981. At that point I got my membership and became a broker in the Canadian Dollar pit. I was a broker until 1991. I then decided to start trading solely for my own account. I remained on the floor until the end of 2004. The foreign currencies had lost most of their business to the computerized trading platform. I took a few years off of trading to do some real estate development. In early 2008 I realized how much I love and miss the markets so I decided to start trading on the computer. I have always been a technical trader even when I was on the trading floor. I am and always will be fascinated by charts, price movement, trends and trading. I went from a simple computer set up to a Falcon Trading Systems computer with an eight screen set-up. I also trade a longer term account in Fidelity on a Mac.
I do o.k. last year but felt that I left a lot of opportunity on the table. I used mostly price movement and candlesticks. I am starting to use a system based on Mark Fisher's work. I am going to try the Blue Wave Trading indicators to see how they feel. I feel my money management skills are well proven but I need to find a system that I like and can stick with.
I hope this gives you some idea of who I am and how I think. I appreciate sites like this. It reminds us that were not alone out there.
Thanks again,Gary
P.S. If anyone reading this used to be on the floor my badge was SEA.

Hello Big Mike and all,
I'm an intermediate "still-with-lots-of-room-to-improve" day trader, currently focusing on TF, 6E and CL. I've finally gotten fairly consistently "Green" for the day, but struggled for a long time with only occasional winning days and lots more losing days.
Key for me was learning to avoid outright dumb trades and then see and avoid the more subtle "higher risk" trades. Learning this has been a major reason for the change from red to green P&L in my at the end of the day. I still have losing days, but they are much fewer, and are usually either a very tough narrow range day, or I'm doing something wrong that shows up in review at the end of the day.
I have learned that, for me, to be profitable means avoiding many potential entries. I also have learned that I hate being wrong, and that I really need to follow my trade management strategy because if I don't, and instead let my ego manage the trade, it will be a big loser.
Looking forward to learning from all of you and contributing to your site, Big Mike. Thanks for your time and energy to put it together.
Love the forum. Want to contribute in a meaningful way. This will be some time away.
I'm a newbie to NT. Love its interface and ease of use.
Trying to get a handle on the Automated Trading programming at the moment.
Just feeling my way and taking baby steps. Have done the NT webinars and want to learn more.
I know what I want to do with very basic stategies BUT not able to program them as yet so... I observe, learn, test, mess up and then repeat. It's a slow way and I am learning.
Once I see how the programming works on basic strategies, I think that the bigger ideas will fall into place. Hope to have an "oh yeah!" moment soon.
My current project is to create a strategy that uses MACD, when the fast moves above the slow go LONG with a target and when the fast moves below the slow go SHORT for a target.
I know this is probably extremely simple to program but consider a 1st year student trying to do 4th year maths problem. That's me...
Any recommendations on books or tutorials would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rosha

Hello Traders,
Cimino Here, I am a relatively new trader, 7 months of trying with little to show for it except the experience. This is an attempt at a career change. I am looking forward to picking up some good tips as well as share what I have learned with you. Give me time to fiqure out the forum and I will be glad help where I can.
Blessings to you.
I found this forum recently and have being impressed so far. I day trade futures, mainly the ES. I like to keep things simple and focus on homework prior to the RTH and trade the order flow.
Thanks to those who have shared their work/knowledge and the people behind running the forums.
Hi Mike,
I dont know alot and never seem able to pull the trigger when i am right. I have your "Channel this" which looks very clever but am trying to figure out its best use. Hoping to learn here. Many thanks
Lee
Hello to everyone, and thankyou Mike for an excellant forum. My name is lorne and i am an aussie living in Bangkok.I in the past have lost everything and have been working hard to put the funds together to start again.
I have been reading forums on traders lab, sierra, trading blox and everything i can find for months now.
I will be using to begin with interactive brokers, sierra chart and possibly trading blox to test my setup which i have been forming in my mind for some time.
My idea is to get my setup coded for sierra and then sim trade for as long as it takes me to gain confidence in my method.
For me hourly and daily charts will be enough, but i wish to use volume analysis as a confirming or denying factor to take positions with my setup.Problem is i know absolutely nothing about these studies so am busily reading as much as i can.Any reccomendations for books would be appreciated.
Again thankyou for allowing me to take part in this forum.
just joined about 10 minutes ago so wanted to say hi. Heres a bit about me.
I've been playing about with FX on and off for a couple of years in demo accounts. Then last year I hit the big 40 and realised that having been self employed for years I needed to do something about a pension plan (which i havent contributed to for 15 years or so). So I finally went 'live' with a mere $350 last November.
At present I'm about 30% down on my starting point and to be honest although it's a hefty chunk of the original this is my learning capital. When i was playing about with demo accounts I did quite well (about 80% up over a year) but realised that the emotional attachment to monopoly money isnt the same and immediately i started trading live my trading behaviour changed, but im now getting to grips with it, especially money management, though i still find myself chasing pips sometimes when I have reached my daily target.
To be brutally honest, I'm delighted that after nearly 6 months I havent blown my account which I view as a (maybe small) achievement. Maybe the real lesson would have been to blow it all in a matter of weeks and take the kicking that many seem to suffer at the very start of the learning curve (though between 18-23 I worked for an investment division of a large uk bank so that gave me good grounding in equity markets).
My Aims
well it's quite simple really. I dont expect to make a million in my first year, i dont expect to make a million in 10 years time. As I mentioned what I am looking for is to increase my account by 5% per month every month (averaged out of course) but i will gladly bank any additional.
If I could regularly achieve 12% per month I would be ecstatic. Like I said I'm looking 15 years into the future and to build up a retiremnet fund. Once I am achieving 5% or more every month I will be chucking several thousand into my account so the serious growth can begin.
right i reckon I have bored you all enough........ i look forward to learning and banking pips.
I am retired from 40 years in the computer software business. I need to return to work and as most of these jobs have been shipped to India, I decided to try on a new career. I can hear Mike's words now 'he is doomed to failure', because I am coming into this business from entirely the wrong place. Need rather than desire.
I heard about Big Mike from my readings in Ninjatrader and in Brett Steenbarger's blog. Armed with all of my tools, I am excited about this new adventure and having found this forum, very happy to be part of it. As I gain some experience I will be happy to contribute.
After trading financial and energy futures using Excel, VBA and VB6 for nearly 15 years, I recently started exploring NT6.5 and now NT7. I just found Big Mike's Forum and the community and resources here are great! I look forward to learning and sharing.

Superdoug, can you send me the link of where Brett's blog mentions futures.io (formerly BMT)? I couldn't find it. I'm a big fan of his and plan to ask him to host some webinars for us soon.
Mea Coopla Mike; I checked and could not find any reference to futures.io (formerly BMT) on Brett's blog. I started my education with NT forum, so it must have been there.
Hi everyone, I've been papertrading for about ten years. About 4 months ago I started to use real money. Even when I'm in a winning trade I get the jitters and get out too soon. Trading with real money is a whole different game. I trade the emini S&P.
I got interested in fx trading one year ago, and i've been developing a script for automated trading. I'm not really interested in being a trader, I want it to be fully automated and money-making.... ))
Starting out with Metatrader, I've eventually developed a system based on Renko bars and the Ichimoku indikator, combined with some regression analysis. I've put the system to work on a demo account, and it currently trades with a small profit over time.
However, I haven't been able to optimise one single parameter in this rather complex setup, because it's just not possible to optimise renko bars in Metatrader. Thus, there should be potential for much better results, and I decided to get more professional about all this, and find a better platform to run the system with optimised parameters.
After some evaluations I decided to go for Multicharts, and now learning Easylanguage and starting to port the system from mq4.
Stumbled over this forum because of the threads discussing the pros and cons of NT and MC, and to my great delight also some recent disussions about optimising with renko bars!
... so, thanks to Mike for starting this forum! :bmt-rocks:
I found Big Mike's through a trading room I was in. The moderator did not sell indicators and instead suggested we look for them here at Big Mike's.
So I downloaded all the indicators I thought I might like, found a couple and decided to participate.
I am trading full time after a year of learning and almost blowing out my account. I was in the mortgage biz for 15 years. Made BIG Bank and then got blown out of the water with the housing collapse.
I hate "regular" jobs so I needed to find a way to make a living, be there for my kid and still enjoy life without being a wage slave.
Now I'm a chart slave and I love it! I am still finding my way around the trading community but so far so good. I think I've more or less put in my bottom so to speak in terms of trading and am now looking at beginning to really make a nice living at this crazy thing called trading. Its the hardest thing I've ever done but its also the one thing with the most potential I've ever explored.
Hi all. I am trading again and looking to make this my last time to start! I am grateful for being here and able to learn and download ninja stuff and hope to be able to help others really soon
Been around the horn on educators, spent a ton and have a good toolbox, but have yet to achieve consistent profitability. I do have a system I believe will be immensely profitable but must find a "harder than real" simulator (since I have been burned in the past). Presently use Infinity Sim and it is the best sim I have found, as it is harder than real. Do you know how real NT Sim is (I have read the NT forum posts on it already and it did not look promising). What is your knowledge on this and if it can be set to be harder than real, what would the settings be? Thanks a million, gh
I lost $7500 daytrading. Went back to a demo and gradually devised a method that uses price action and EMA 20 to find a prospect, ADX to confirm trend, MACD to find hidden divergences, and Ichimoku to further confirm trend. It wins on paper. The question is, Can I make money? About to find out.

Hello everyone
I've been 'trading' for 4 years. Lost a bundle over this time, but keep coming back with new ideas. Like a dog with a bone I didn't give up and now have begun to reap some reward trading YM and Z every day, but a long way to go. Glad to share experiences with the rest of the community.
I'am a beginning trader with ninja trader and i hope i find some good tradingsadvivice at you forum,I'am from Belgium(Europe)and i hope my english is good enought to make me understanding.
I'm from France and started trading forex a year ago. Demo 6 months and then went live to blow a small account... I now have developped my own trading strategy, nothing fancy but it provides a 'good' guideline. Trading is much harder than expected, and not so rewarding for the moment but i love it.
Hello all, just thought I would drop in and say hi. I use NT to trade with and MultiCharts to research ideas with. Probably will lurk for a while until I catch up on how things are here and then zero in on things that interest me. Mostly interested in in doing research on volume activity at turning points intraday that can be witnessed in real-time from the right hand side of the chart and not at the end of the day like in webinars. Sorry - I don't like Market Profile. Just my opinion.
I strated out by trading stocks several years ago part-time, and quit trading a after taking a big hit about a year after I started trading.
Then, I was back to trading in mid 2008, still taking losses but much smaller scale compare to last time.
Now,I do trade physical gold (kilo bar and fractional size of it ) for medium to long term period.
I'm starting to use Futures contract as a Hedge instrument to my LONG gold position, well I can't SHORT physical gold anyway :P.
Currently, I'm trying to implement the system based on the methodology I use to trade physical gold on YG/GC and Spot gold.
I used to trade TOCOM gold but Stop trading it for the moment becuase the amount of risk I have to tackle on Yen/USD fluctuation.
Any Gold BUG here?
Good trading everyone !

Hello new members!
Welcome to the forum, consider it your new home! There are many great people here willing to help you become successful traders. The best way is to get involved in the community. Start participating in threads, in the beginning you will ask questions and then soon you will start answering them.
Shortly thereafter, you can start your own Trading Journal in our Journals section, and start receiving feedback from all the great traders in the community and improve your own skills as a result of the journaling process.
I mostly trade the FX market with a small live account. I'm close to finalizing my trading plan which I will put up here for criticism and suggestions. Thanks to Mike and the rest of you guys for making this site possible.

hi all
new member as well.
Seems like a good community.
I like to swing/position trade ES and watching the canadian dollar too. I consider myself still learning although I dont think that will ever stop.
I know programming and C# because of academic work and can understand an existing program and mod it or write my own although it can be slow. I dont consider myself an absolute expert in the intricacies of C# since I never worked professionally with it. Obviously I use NT.
My first language is french so sorry for my english in advance. Curious of knowing how many french speaking people are doing this actually.
I know MP and did have a brief personal blog commenting on MP applied to ES but stopped writing on it since I started dabbing into automation with NT. One of my future to-do project is to try automated MP trading although I dont have an idea of where to start yet ... dont know if anyone tried or if it can work but if you are working on it give me a shout.
if I answer in French it will take at least twice as long.

New here, be gentle. I've been a trader for almost 20 years; stocks and options primarily, but am just getting my feet wet with futures and FX in the last year or so. Looking forward to learning from other traders and hopefully being able to make intelligent contributions of my own....
I have been trading Futures full-time for the past 8 months...50/50 Sim & Live. I rely on Order Flow & Volume Profiles with S/R areas to enter and exit trades. The weakest part of my trading plan is getting off course looking for the next best indicator or trading style - I still feel like I'm looking for something else to complete my trading plan. I would also like to shed an indicator or two...but who wouldn't right? I follow TraderFeed, Simplicity in Trading, and Electronic Local Blogs, which are great but I think more trader interaction like futures.io (formerly BMT) is better for my plan.
