Hello All,

Thanks for letting me join your community.
A little about myself, I am a construction contractor feeling the effect's of the housing downturn and looking for a new avenue to go down. Have been studying and siming the ES and currencies for about 9 months now. So a newborn to daytrading I am. I appreciate all that you give here at your site Mike and I hope that someday I will be able to give back more than what I take from this site.

Chris

Hi. I have been in and out of (mainly futures) trading for a few decades now, usually with longer term approaches. Though I don't have the funds to trade it, my long-term portfolio system coded in TS has been up well over 50% per annum for many years, so I have some background in system design and testing even though I am not very good at either math or coding, rather strategic/structural planning.

Recently I have been trying to garner steady income from day trading but have not yet succeeded and am getting frustrated.

At this point I have realised that along with better discipline I need to drill down into money management as more of a basis for entry/exit rules, which hopefully will also improve discipline/emotions during live trading.

Having spent the past few hours as a newbie here looking at some of the indicators (even though I would rather not use any and would rather just focus on volume and price action), my next stop is the Money Management section!

This seems to be a really good trader's forum and I would like to express my thanks to Big Mike for setting it up.

Ash.

Hi All,

I have started trading TF futures in August 2009. I have a full time job at a malaysian Tv station.

My account is small at the moment. My current objective to stay in this trading game as long as possible.

Thank you.

Hi All,
I my first attempt at currency trading has not gone well. The account still has some value but I have decided to step back, slow down and develop solid habits and understanding for trading so I can make win more trades than I lose. I have a full time job but hope to be able to transition to trading forex as successful trader. I consider myself as a beginner in forex trading. Hopefully I can share what I have learned from reading fome of the educational sites as well as learn from members of this forum.

Thanks

Hi everyone
I've been position trading futures for several years and for the last two or three have been trying to get to grips with day trading. The markets I concentrate on are ES and DAX. Over the years I've spent a long time programming indicators and strategies and am now tending towards developing something a lot less complicated than what I've been using up until now. Pleased to be part of the community.

Hello,

I am glad I stumbled on this community and I am looking forward to learn from and contribute to.

I am a mathematician and software developer by training. After long years in hi tec I decided to give trading a chance. I blew my first account few years back using Tradestation, mostly on stocks. That was before Tradestation had those paper accounts you can reset

Since then I matured, got to appreciate the psychological aspects of this business and converted to IB. After two years of using IB API and Java, I've decided to use Ninjatrader for everything (discretionary and automated). I use VSA-like methodologies (Wyckoff, Williams) to trade mostly futures and some stocks. Looking forward to cooperate with anyone also along those lines, maybe in building VSA indicator package for NinjaTrader.

I am new to Ninja but so far I found it just great.

Happy Trading !

Hello everyone!

I started trading stocks about 2 years ago, but never did better than break even. About a year ago, I moved over to futures (ES) and my account is still about break even. This is probably because I made a bundle before I lost it, instead of the other way around!

I'm still looking for the methodology that fits my style.

I hope to share what little I know and learn a lot from what other share.

Happy trading,

Tom Gilbert

Hello fellow traders,

I am Dan, screen name dandxg and DanielM, I have been trading full time for 4 years with some success. I became enamored with volume a couple of years ago and spent a good deal of time learning VSA/Wyckoff. I have traded eminis and currency futures with a dash of gold futures. I have yet to learn how to code, but I will, and I hope that I can bring some good ideas to the group.

Hi Mike and all,

I'm so thrilled to have found this forum!
But now I am overwhelmed with all the possibilities...

I want to build a system that alerts me to possible trades so I can trade on the side at the office...

Glad to be a part of the community!

Hello All!

My name is Jimmy and I am from Rogers Arkansas, we say all and the Texans get to say Yall!

Well anyway I have been doing the futures for about a year and am still struggling. I am open to anything at this point.

I have done a lot of reading and like Dr Elder's books a lot.

I have been pondering Dr Barry Burns some but can't make up my mind about him. I am paper trading now and today its the NQ using a 381 tick chart and a 1800 tick chart.

I wished it was real money today, I have been trading within a narrow Linear regression channel, using indicators such as Force Index, DM, BOP, MACD, DMIndex, Momentum,D3SpotterV1, I know there is no Holy Grail, I just need a setup with a couple of indicators that will work together.

But now I'm rambling..

I am a Vietnam Vet and go To NA meetings 5 times a week....And I keep going back..
Just 4 Today!!

Good to be here..

Finally decided to register to be able to view some of those tantalizing equity curves that have been posted...

I've been voyeuristically following your blog since inception, Mike -- delighted to see things have really taken off.

At present, I use an automated system to trade ES eminis. I have been running it live with a small number of contracts for about 6 months, and plan to do so for at least 1 year before increasing the number of contracts.

I am a trader from the bay area and focus on index and currency futures. I have built two auto trading systems now, trading small contracts. They focus on short term mean reversion and volume based logic. I believe that the most important part of a trading system is money management and being able to manage psychology, not trading signals. That is why I create auto trading systems - I have faith in them being able to consistently execute them.

I am looking to understand some of the MM ideas within the site here, and also participate in the discussions on better, newer trading ideas. Ultimately I am going to deploy a set of auto trade systems that seek to compliment a portfolio approach on my trading captial (5 systems is the initial plan). I think this sits better with my risk tolerance - having a portfolio of systems therefore no over reliance or exposure to one single idea or trade pattern......

My story is similar to Big Mike's. I tried several time to be a trader without success. It was only after I got my emotions under control did I stop losing money. Reading Trading in the Zone by Mark Douglas was an eye opening experience. He has rules that help traders' deal with their reaction to the Market.

Hello Mike,

I subscribed user and login some weeks ago but forgot them and I was very busy with official job in life. I'm french. On the french site "www.pro-at.com", I read many specific indicators' scripts for NT, really interesting !

I'm new one in the community of Ninja Trader' users. I like to play with Futures and especially with FDAX, nearly by reading the Super Dome book exclusively. Just charts in UT5 and x ticks with little few indicators take place on my monitor. One of them "OBV and Bollinger Bands" by Sam028 on my demand. He's a better programer than me.

Thank you to allow me to join us.

Best regards.

Norden.

Hello Traders,
I'm from Monterrey Mexico; about 5 hours drive from San Antonio, TX. I知 41 years old and have a financial background; I知 an accountant with an MBA, working for a big multinational Mexican corporation at the strategic planning department, but my passion have always been the financial markets. I began my career in the financial sector as an international securities specialist for a brokerage firm (10 years ago) and I have been trading on my own with regular results (inconsistent) for 12 years. I have very good knowledge of the U.S. stock market and good understanding of stock options strategies.
My dream always has been to become a full time trader, making a living dealing only with my own money. The problem is that my current day job (that I hate) is very demanding and also the cost of opportunity to leave a monthly salary is too high and at this point uncertain.
I致e had tried to develop a swing trading strategy that allow me to have the best of both worlds, a monthly salary and an extra income from trading, hoping that someday my trading earning would be great enough to allow me to quit my job and just keep trading for a living. The reality is that I知 trapped doing neither of both, because I spend too much time watching the markets distracting me during my regular working hours which leads to underperform at my duties (with all the risk that implies) but on the other hand I知 not doing much with my trading.
At this point I知 focusing on learning all I can about day trading to build a solid strategy, methodology and business plan to give me the confidence I need, the problem is that with my current day job I don稚 even have the time to practice during regular trading US markets. At this point I'm doing sim trading with the ES when I got the chance and also reading many books and articles about day trading.
I also enjoy sharing my experience with others and I have found there is a huge market potential to teach and coach people here in Mexico, because every time I start talking to somebody about my investments in the international markets I observe a big interest from them. I知 talking about well prepared people at executive levels on big corporations, they have a business background, but they do not know anything about investing in the international markets, yet they are very interested. I just start a small trading club with other fellow traders here in Monterrey.

I'll appreciate any advice you could provide...
Happy Trading!

You may try avoid trading US stocks/options during regular hours. Maybe European futures, in your early morning, Globex futures, or Forex ?
I've been in the same situation, and think now it's very hard, or impossible, to be profitable when you trade during your regular working hours.
Except with an automated strategy, when you just have to click on the start button in the morning, and watch the results at the end of the day.
..
Or maybe in a very very very cool job, without phone, meetings, team-mates, boss, ...

I think this is a very common problem which keeps many enslaved to the grind. Check out Forex and the London Open. 24 hr very liquid market...A lot of very good info on this forum as to trading in general. You will lose some sleep but may gain some freedom. Try to avoid the 100:1 margin suggested by Forex brokers. You will have to find a market you are comfortable with but tech analysis is tech analysis regardless of market... good luck

Some great intros here, thank you all for sharing especially thank you to BigMike for this web site. This was a great find when doing a search for NT tutorials. Really look forward to this third kick at the can so to speak.... a humble lol

A public appology to my mentor, you know who you are... for me taking this long (3yrs, two blown acc's and a year spent saving to try once more...) to sit down and figure out it's not about the market it's about me..... Doubling or quading up on position size to make up for a negative trade... trust me it does'nt work. Emotion trading, because I just "knew" what the market was going to do... hmmmm... did'nt know nothing, I could go on and on. Finally I had to sit down and decided that okay maybe there is something to what my mentor was trying to say (you rock M). Guess what, it "is" about me. So while I was sitting on a park bench listening to the sounds of the city, Toronto, with it's sirens, traffic, people talking, kids playing, it happened, it really happened. I know it sounds goofy but I entered the zone. I became aware of everything around me all at once and just sat there listening and watching, I was even aware of the sources of sound behind me. And it struck me, what an awareness, I can no more move it or impact it by my emotion or decision than the insect can move me by crawling accross my shoe at that very moment "this" is the market. What I can do is respond to it, move within it, navigate it and make decisions based on what it is doing at that moment. Pride, predudice, greed, sorrow, personal circumstance or "any" personal emotion has "absolutely" zero impact on what the market is presenting at that moment or the direction it is about to move. What a moment, what an epifany for me. You cannot socially interact with it, it cares less for who I am then I could ever imagine, it's cold, heartless and very hungry, but it is predictable. So this time around I have been enjoying much "sim" success. When I get ready for the day I take time to review my mindset, review my charts and get ready, I no longer counts the dollars, I simply go after the tics, dollars will take care of themselves.

I look forward to contributing and learning from all the seasoned traders here and gladly donate monthly (what goes around comes around). Thanks BigMike I am indebted to my mentor and guys like you who don't "find it and quickly lock it away."

Anxious for round three...

Hello traders,

Im looking to learn a thing or two about trading and help others out in the future. Ive learned how little I actually know. I like the simple pnf charts and working on price action with very few indicators. Ive got a full time job and its shift work so im off a few trading days every week and i record the markets while at work to increase my screen time. Been reading the Psych and Manage parts to trading and I know that I have a long road ahead. Ive already opened a few doors In my head by reading some of the Psych stuff. Thanks to those willing to spend time with new traders like myself, its not always said but your help is greatly appreciated.

Hello Mike and Members,

I've been involved with Ninjatrader for about a year now, working on my automated strategy. Doing some good stuff, I think. But one of the areas that I'm getting hung up on is the apparent difference between Ninja Live (Demo) and Replay data. This apparent difference when running a replay file prevents my strategies from firing when the live ones did.

To really see the difference, I decided to write a small ninjascript. It just writes tick data to the file specified. I am attaching the ninajscript (PrintCurrentBidAsk.cs) and 2 sample output files from after hours testing (~10:30 pm EST). One sample is from the Live (i.e. AMP demo feed), the other is from the corresponding the replay file. Historical bars seem to be fairly consistent. You really see the difference by searching for "Tick 2" ... the 2 nd tick of the 1st non-historical (i.e. real time) bar.

Enjoy ...

Hi everyone.

I trade the ES and really only use one system now. Just a couple of indicators. Have bought a lot of stuff in the past, all worked out poorly. Funny how many people are programmers here as that and engineering were my past professions. Looking forward to reading and learning from members here as I don't know another trader anywhere. More than willing to share any information I have that can help those just getting started.

Best of luck.

Just thought I would say hi.

I'm about to begin trading for the first time (with a little help EOTpro's indicators). To be quite blunt, I can't stand working and I really hope this works out because I'd love to be able to "work" from home.

I'm a total n00b, but I'll do my best to contribute to this forum wherever and whenever I can. See you inside.

Mike,
Thanks for setting up this forum.
I'm just retired & haven't programmed in 20yrs so I'm new to forums, OO/C#/Visual Studio and NinjaTrader and FOREX. But started working on an Automated Strategy in Easy Language(TradeStation) but TS had data connectivity issue with FX so I moved to NT in Oct. I'm basically trying to scalp in Forex. I haven't gone Live yet due to EL to C# differences. I've designed a Money Management/Lot Sizer as part of the Pyramiding logic but I'm having issues with Forex due to the differences in handling the "Lot Size" in the Backtesting engine & Live trading engine.
So I'm hoping to get some good pointers in this forum in both NT programming techniques and in developing/running automated trading strategies.

Hi all,

I'm still relatively new to futures (3 months on simulation) and am about to go live soon. I typically trade ES, although occasionally try and scalp CL or 6E.

Glad to be apart of it and hope I can contribute once I find my feet. Cheers.

Hey everyone,

Happened across this community looking for historical ES data and cannot believe my fortune for finding this place! I have been studying trading off of volume for some time now (have been an active trader for a few years) and I have not come across a better community discussion on the subject.

Hoping to be able to add to the already rich environment. Happy trading everyone and for the US folks... have a great thanksgiving this week!

Hi, Friends:

Traded the last 7 years beginning with FX then moved to futures the last 1.5 years. Futures have a lower tax rate than FX trading. Seven years ago I began I blew my first 5K making all the newbie mistakes associated with hubris. Then I quit trading for a few months until I began reading blogs and print literature to get my head around the "game."

I enjoy trading and like most, have spent countless hours staring at charts. It may become a full-time job but at this point, it is only for extra income.

The best trade thus far I have made was to have purchased gold and silver in 2005. When gold moved above $500 an oz. and silver above $8.24. Ownership of the physical allows one to freely trade contract futures (paper). In a sense, my gold and silver trading still continues in that those physical purchases affords me any addtional leverage I may need when trading paper.

Ken

HI -- I'm brand new to this forum today -- just started looking around, but I like it already. It looks like there are lots of great ideas being exchanged, and I especially like the positive and helpful tone of the posts.

I'm a fairly new futures trader, after many years of longer-term equities investing -- been actively trading futures for about a year now -- biggest challenge is discipline and patience, like most beginning traders.

I'm looking forward to participating in the forum and learning from more experienced traders.

hi, Mike and traders ,

just joined the membership today.
I've been trading futures for about 3 years. I mianly trade ES and YG and sometimes US, EC,QM and QN. My past weakness was the tendency to take small profits but holding on to the losers for too long. But, I am getting much better these days and green about 4 out of 5 days.

Thanks for the open forum and the opportunity to learn from other traders. ShokoH

Hi Mike and All,
I've been trading for 3 years and just love just concentrating on the futures. In and out, and holding nothing by the end of the trading day.
I've started with the ES and now expanded to currencies and gold. Looking forward to being part of your great team.
Thanks

Hi All

Just found your website yesterday and enjoying what I am reading.

Just started trading E-mini, but realising "scalping" is a deadly game. Just a beginner!!

It seems that we need to be told over and over. Trade with the trend.

Anyway, I am Gil from Queensland Australia and glad to be part of this forum.

Intrigued by the Bollinger and HMA divergence. Is there a colored SMA that changes with direction?

Thanks

Gil

I am trading student and at a very infant stage too. I find this forum very useful and I am overwhelmed by the fact that traders help out each other in honing each other skills. I am glad to be a part of this forum. I am not a programmer but I promise to give back to this forum as much if not more than what I have got from here.

Thanks everyone especially Mike for creating such a platform.

Hi all,
Let me begin by thanking Mike for allowing me to join and participate in his forum.
About myself,
I started in the futures business in the late 70’s as a clerk on the grain floor of the CBOT. Since than, I have gone through many accounts and many experiences. Many times I find myself saying I know everything you need to know about trading and I always find myself learning something new. I would never consider myself a Master or even remotely close to one. I am presently not trading as much only because I had recently moved to the west coast and I am dealing with a time zone issue and a whole house renovation. I hope to provide some fresh insights as well as to learn something new from this site.
My trading preferences are the indexes and the currencies.
Charts! I have always preferred Metastock charts and my trading platform is CQG. Since I moved west and not trading as much I have decided to dump Metastock and use Ninja for charts and CQG for execution. I am Happy about the switch to Ninja and I am hoping to get some help with programming in some of my old expert alerts that I had custom developed in Metastock.

Hi All,

Looks like this forum could be a great and personalised site for traders to help one-another. I'm particularly interested in data and learning about ninja script.

I've worked for the SFE (Sydney Futures Exchange) for many years, JPMorgan etc in Risk Managment roles and also in retail stockbroking. Have been sim trading and dabbling for many years but have finally gone full time recently. Thankfully I'm a disciplined guy with good money managment, but the proof will be in the pudding over the next few months!

Regards,

simon aka waverider

I'm thrilled to locate this forum. Can tell Mike and the members are very generous and willing to share and help!

I started the trading venture early this year, ie after getting married and relocated to a small city last Dec. Tried a few systems and programs. Most did not deliver what they promised unfortunately. The good news is: I got to know a few trading friends who have been very helpful.

I read over 50 books and watched 100+ videos on trading. Have some really good trading e-books such as The High Probability Trading by Marcel Link and Trading in the Zone by Mark Douglas. Please let me know if there's a way to share them.

Happy & Successful Trading!

Good luck! reading and watching is important but the best teachings come by practicing /backtesting ...

So start with paper trading as soon as you can !!!

Thanks for your best wishes gabga100! I started paper trading in Jun and plan to do real trades in Jan. Am looking for indicators that will be useful for a choppy market. Any ideas?

I tried to download some Ninja indicators/templates from the Downloads section. When I right clicked the icon, the saved target was a html file and not in zip (for indicators) or xml (template) format. Not sure how to resolve it .. sigh ..

Would be great if you or someone else can give me some tips. Thanks in advance.

Hi. I just want to introduce myself. I am a forex trader and I just recently started using NinjaTrader for charts. I used TradeStation before but I had some issues with the platform, as well as the forex broker. So right now I trade with an ECN, MBTrading, and I am satisfied with MBTrading, at least for now. I have been through a ton of the major forex brokers. I have been trading forex for 10 years now, 5 years part time and now full time. I do not have too many indicators on my charts. In fact I recently downloaded a template and tested it for scalp trades and so far I have to say that I have been pretty successful, quick pips here and there. Well I wish you all the best of luck. This is a great forum.

Hey guys and gals. I'm really glad to have found this forum, looks like there is a lot of really good info... and people willing to participate.
I've been out of the trading world for a bit, but my experience is almost exclusively in futures. I traded out of a prop shop in Chicago for 3 years, mainly ES with a little ZN and 6E. We traded off TT with CQG for charts. My old self loved pure order flow and chart patterns, nothing but a few trend lines drawn on my chart. I'm working to improve seeing on how MACD, Stochs, and possibly Bollinger bands can help generate a few new ideas.
Happy Trading.

Hello Everyone,

David here. I came accross Big Mikes looking for Ninja Indicators.

Still trying to find my way as a trader. I think I've done all the newbie things that newbies do. I'm not a fan of that term, but it fits me to a T. I've lost a lot of money. I've had some really good trades and given it all back and then some. I've bought indicator packages for $$$$, more than once, I've watched CD's, been to seminars, red books, I've paid for courses that look great and probably are great, but I learned that methods are only as good as the person trading them. I've now discovered it's what is in my head that makes or breaks me.

I'm hoping to find some simplicity and common sense to trading. It shouldn't be as difficult as I make it.

Comments and feedback are appreciated and encouraged.

David

Hi David R

Yes. Trading is Simple and it's not Easy! I agree with you 1,000,000,...% that it's our emotion that breaks or makes it. I used to pay a few investment advisors for giving me stock or directional option picks. Made some and lost all + more at the end. All of them do not have an exit strategy. I still hold stocks (used to be a 2-digit $ ones) that are now traded at less than 5 cents - Unbelievable!

I'm learning to be my own investment advisor so that I will not repeat the same trading mistakes! Have a Trading Plan and daily Game Plan like running a business - that's what I learned from Marcel Link's High Probability Trading book. I highly recommend it. Feel free to provide me with an email address (has the capacity to receive an enclosure over 8MB) if you want an e-copy.

Happy & Successful Trading!

Beth

Been trading for four years or so. Was successful in the mortgage business, but that pretty well blew up. My wife actually got me into trading as she was tired of watching her 401k slide while the managers were convincing her that "it'll come back" or "hey, 8% is a great anual return ...."
Anyway, found out I loved it!

Departed equities for the most part and explored the futures world, particularly the ES minis. Paper traded for a couple of months, got to the point where I was consistently making $200 to as much as $1000 per day with two contracts and figured it was time to go "live". Did so and dropped three G's in three days through stupidity and revenge trading. Realized I had some holes in my trading plan somewhere and began exploring various sites. As a matter of fact a member of eminiaddict.com posted Big Mike's link and I thought it best to give it a whirl.

I look forward to learning and contributing.

Hi, I have been on this forum for a few months and just wanted to introduce myself. A newbie daytrader, been trading the e-mini for about a year and some stocks, been concentrating on the e-mini exclusively the past 6 to 8 months. Hope to learn a lot and add positively to the forum.

This place seems to be a good one as I am reading the threads more often. I might even learn something about coding. I have been trading for several years and using NT for about 3 years.

Hey everybody,

Thanks for getting this forum going. I run my own business and am dedicated to the full-time trading of energy and gold futures during the PIT sessions. I started off as a broker for a boutique futures firm almost a decade ago and then worked for a larger full-service broker for a couple years during the last bear market. Good times hahaha!

After taking a break for a long time I finally started getting into trading futures fror myself 2.5 years ago and have been learning and studying the markets ever since. It's been a bumpy ride until this year but I am excited to be a part of this forum and hope to share what knowledge and experience I have with everyone!

Hi All,
I have spent the last two years trying to learn how to day trade. I've spent close to 10,000 on chat rooms, indicators, and "systems". I spent almost 1+1/2 yrs coding ideas into Tradestation Easy Language. I switched over to NinjaTrader when my trading account went too low to trade 2 contracts at TS. I'm still learning and hope to someday be consistent and successful. Any one that would like to know what Not to do can feel free to ask me. Good Luck to all !

Welcome! Yes, by all means, feel free to share (in detail) what *NOT* to do. I'm sure everyone could benefit from your experience.

After all, it's what you learn AFTER you know it all, that counts!

Certainly I've learned tons of "what I MUST NOT Do" in my trading venture too!

Now with a trading plan (equiv to a business plan and I specify what I will trade with max exposure and P/L) plus a daily game plan, I feel everything is in good control. I used some photo recipe templates to prepare the game rules and am pleased to share them here (without the photos).

They are posted on my trading monitors - great visual reminders for me! Hey, I also have a trading bulletin board with more trading rules in front of me (on a nice colorful poster design with our favorite vac photo). I am working very hard on developing this lifetime trading career. It's actually the key to our financial freedom.

Happy & Successful Trading!

Beth

Hi I have traded future stocks and options for 3 years and starting to get good at it. I am looking for maybe 5 people to trade as team [everyone on their own account] to keep focus and extra brain power on the trading contract or contracts. Must be good tape readers or have a system close to tape reading. Should be able to call trades and trade their own account. Must be trading for a living.

Here are a couple of don'ts I learned the hard way:

1. Don't use Limit orders in back testing - unbelievable results will be calculated.

2. Know how your trade platform handles Limit orders, if you plan on using them. Especially in Sim mode versus real $$ mode. (Tradestation bit me in the ...)
(NinjaTrader is more realistic.)

3. No matter how much sim practice I perform, when real $$ are on the line, I still screw up.

4. Don't risk more than 3% to 5% of your account on any one trade. (Preferably 3%)

To wgreenie,

Sounds like you're using Kwik PoP. I tried the indicators which were OK. I also tried the paid chat room - big mistake. (at least for me) The moderator was confusing and used his "experience" to decide which trades to take and which to avoid. I got tired of taking the wrong/losing trades and hearing how he avoided them - after the fact! Hopefully you are doing better.

Thanks hansonk for your advice. After going through 5 systems, I feel more comfortable with the Kwik Pop one as I can spot most of the signals myself (on sim right now). Since I am not a KP licence subscriber, I will not be considering the daytrading room ($250/month vs $159).

In addition to the KP indicators, I have added a few more to help me. For example, Ninja Price Action (downloaded from the Ninja Forum) which print HH/HL/LL/HL text on the chart, Chaos AC (momentum osc indicates a trend reversal), iADX, MACD zero lag and a tri-color indicator which I downloaded from Big Mike. My charts are a little crowded and I am still experimenting.

Plan to find the required indicators for an "All Your Need" chart during the holidays and see if I can learn how to trade with it. KISS (Keep It Simple & Stupid) will be great as I am a simple person .. smile ..

In any event, I will start doing a few real trades in January. A real test to my psyche and see if I can manage my trades.

Enjoy a Nice weekend.

Beth

I paid a lot on the following DON'TS:

1. Do not hold on to a Long position losing trade when the market is oversold.

2. Do not hold on to a Short position losing trade when the market is overbought.

Note: Oversold/overbought does not mean the market will move to your direction! I listened to my ex-mentor (who told us the market was extremely overbought and would be sold off very soon - never happened) and held on to my SPX credit spreads for weeks until I closed the position at $2K loss (paid the market 10+ times more than what I got)!

3. Do not make your trade decision based on HOPE! (I used to hope a lot that my losing trades would eventually work!)

Some very important DOs for me:

1) Want what the Market wants.
2) Trade with the TREND (Trade according to the candle in front of you).
3) Only do high probability trades. For example, minimal or no counter-trend trades and avoid trading during lunch breaks.
4) SOH (Sit On Hands) when there's a news announcement that will move the market. I forgot once and was in a trade when the Chicago Sentiment came out. Got stopped out within seconds and filled at an 8-point slippage - gosh! Luckily it's YM and not ES.

Those are some of my lessons.

Beth

I am day trading the NQ futures, with a modest system to make modest profits, aiming for 60 to 200 per day only, on 2 contracts to start. Have a twitter.com/emacro, which I try to journal the trades as they happen.

I also trade the fx.

I hope to network and learn to expand my trading horizons.

Beth,
Sounds like you're headed down the right path. I just have one bit of advice. (if you don't already know?) When you have multiple indicators, unless you need them all to agree before taking action, some will say yes and some may say no. Just be sure you have written(and therefore repeatable) rules for each case. And as you said, simple is usually better.(Occam's Razor)

However, don't forget what (Einstein ?) added," but no simpler". Just my two cents. Enjoy the journey!

Kurt

Thanks Kurt for the reminder. Yes, if and when all or most indicators align, I will dive in without hesitation .. smile .. If the 7500 and 3350 volume charts do not agree and I decide to enter, I will minimize the no of contracts to 1 + having a tight SL. I plan to use mostly the top 3 indicators for trade set-up and entry plus certainly the KP rules like 2Up/2Down. The bottom 2 may warn me "choppy or undecided market" and SOH.

I've polished my indicator list a little bit and will settle with the enclosed for now. They are on a 23" monitor and I can see them clearly.

Mixed feelings (both excitement and "fear") for the new year when I will trade on live. It's great that my daily game plan will keep me focus. I will not over-trade for sure esp when I hit my profit target or SL (hopefully not) quota.

Have a Great weekend.

Beth

Hi all,

I guess like many here I am fairly new to trading and the insight that I have seen in this community looks great. I'm still trying hard to understand if I can really make some money doing this.

Oh, I'm based just outside New York City.

My trading friends love the subject video and it's free to watch at the following:

http://tv.ino.com/free/

It's the second video from the left. They have a short promo v-clip (less than a minute) before you can choose the featured video you want to watch. I forgot if it's a 60 or 90 minutes video. Enjoy!

Beth,

I am very concerned when I see all that stuff on your chart. Has this set up proven itself to you over a reasonable amount of time? If so, then perhaps my concerns are misplaced.
