Well, it seems like there are people already attacking me on this forum. I will have to defend. That usually results in me getting banned. Let's see how things play out here.
Edit: I see that my posts that set the record straight have been deleted from the DRAIN THE BANKS thread YET OFFENDING POSTS STILL REMAIN. It looks like the playing field is not level.
Hi, I have been trading for about a year now and my results have been sketchy at best. I have however learnt the most important lesson I THINK???? You need a bank to trade and money management is the most important factor when trading. I haope I can help out in this forum and I hope I get to learn a lot. Thanks
money management is important but discipline is hard to learn really hard so try to learn good methods to enter and exit the market and then teach yourself the disipline to always follow your rules...sharky

I am Jim aka JamTheTrader. My trading experience is deep as are my losses.
I am trading this morning (slow pathetic market) and will spend more time learning the background of the traders in here as well as talking about my experience both technically and psychologically speaking.
One complaint so far Mike, spell check does not work and believe me I need it!
I subscribe in this forum because I want to learn more about trading, I am using NinjaTrader at present. The programing sound very interesting to me as imotion tends to get me most of the time.

Joining here at a pivotal time. Have recently blown up my account after full time trading futures for past 1.5 years.
My plan is to regroup, stay tuned into markets and start EOD trend trading futures indices and commodities while full time employed.
My biggest failure has been underestimating the amount of screen time it would take to master this game. Looking back, I would have been wise to trade smaller and work on money management.
I started with a strategy that saw commented on a forum. Then I developed it on NT. I had it running for several months in DJ in a demo account and did nothing but lower the amount in the account.
I have created many strategies, but I've backtested and I've never reached adequate ratios. Obviously, the best ratios with huge stoplosses, but then went the profits.
A month ago I created a real Forex account with little money. I trade almost every day, solely with deviations, trend lines and pivots, and at least keep me around as the first day. This week, for example, after a dozen trades, I've lost 3 cents, including commissions.
I think the indicators, apart from lag, are aids for the uninitiated to see what really happens, never as signals. In the future I would like to see all without then.
I feel that the movements are very simple, but I also see that it is very difficult to produce pips.

Been lurking here since Big Mike started the forum and I was reading the big guys blog regularly before that. Gotta say, Fantastic Work on the forum!!!
Mike, you might remember we chatted about running NT on Ubuntu on the Ninja forums and I never really got it working under wine. I did have it running ok on a triple monitor desktop running Ubuntu 8.04 in a VM, but running a VM on top of Linux just added another layer of complexity and wasn't worth the hassle imo. I have since gone back to Vista and testing 7.
When Ninja 7 comes out I intend to change to windows 7 at the same point so I only have one big change.
Also gotta say thanks to those that have shared Ninja code here and on the NT forums. I'm not new to programming but I haven't done a lot of the C based stuff so I'm still finding my feet. Once I get some stuff worth sharing I'll post it up.
I'm in Australia so I trade the SPI (S&P200) during our market hours and FTSE in the evening. I also dabble in ES, gold and oil if the mood suits. I'm primarily a momentum scalper but I try and hold the occasional trade longer if it seems like I have nailed a good mid term entry.
I use MFG Australia using a pats feed which is currently broken and the Ninja guys are being super helpful fixing. Thank god because my past experiences with Pats aren't really printable on a public forum. If I don't get results soon I will be switching to an IB account as it's one of the few OS brokers that have the SPI on their list (that I have found anyway) Open to suggestions if anyone knows of other.
Anyway, that's me.
Cheers for now.

Hi,
I am from Germany and trade automated on MT4. Since I want to get serious with trading I am trying to get away from MT4. MT4 broker are in major marketmaker and there are just to many serveradded tools from the broker to make the client loose. I am not saying that my loosing trades are broker fault but since I want to get serious about trading trading on the “real” market is the next logical step and away from those marketmakers.
That is why I wanted to change to NT+ IB since NT isn’t that much different on the programming to MT4.
Since I am new on NT I will have a lot of noob questions and I already excuse myself here it this might be to annoying for you.
I want to rewrite my EA on FX and DAX-CFD to FX-NT and DAX-Future.
Since I have never traded the real futures I will definitely have questions here. It would be nice if someone can show me an noob link what I have to consider changing from cfd to future.
I remember and was actually just recently wondering if you ever got it working. But that's for a different thread Glad to have you and I look forward to your posts.
Intermediate trader.Emini S & P. Moved from Tradestation to Ninja Trader very recent and just like a new car learning how to drive it!
Really trying to figure out how to get my hands on that indicator Mike has I believe it is the "visual multi-time frame scoring" but not exactly sure. It is the one that moves between his price action changing from red to blue with momentum. Anyone who knows would be great!!!
Have been lurking here for quite a while taking in some great info from the forum and Mike's blog. Though it was about time I actually made a post and said hello to everyone.
Thanks for a great forum. Have been a discretion trader. Of late got interested in Automated Trading Systems. Will share info once I grasp some concetps and do some testing..Thanks.
Hi,
I'm a full time (sim) scalper, still in the learning phase. I also had my system trading phase (live, swing) but stopped due to too much heat taken.
I have a journal at fle's trading journal - The Price Action Forum - PriceAction.net where I post my FGBL / NQ trades. My detail are also posted there, for those of you who are interested.
By joining, I hope to here to be able to share with other BUND traders, a rather rare species..
Have a nice trading.

Forex trader from London.
This is my first forum. I ran into mikes blog and just followed it here. I traded off and on for a good number of years. I took my series 7&63 and went with a prop firm in 2003 for almost two years. I have not traded much since then, loooking to get back into it. I look forward to being here and thanks to Mike and the rest of the crew for sharing their trading savy.
I am a newbie trader (trading since 2 weeks now) using ninjatrader 6.5.
I learn mathematic, and later computer science.
I found Mike's blog and I really like it.
Thanks a lot for all you do Mike....
Just droppin by to say hey... been lurking here a while and quite impressed. Thanks to Mike and everyone for the great contributions here. I'm not a big fan of indicators in general, but definitely some interesting ones here.
I've been sim / part time trading, developing my trading plan, systems/setups and screen time for nearly 2 years now. I am primarily a discretionary, price action / order flow scalper of index futures (ES). Finally, ready or not, I'm going to take the plunge give trading full time for a living a go this fall.
I've been trading full time for about 10 yrs. Seen many forums come and go but I'm very impressed with the quality and openness that exists here. With "support" I hope this one stays on for many years.

Good trading everyone, drain the banks !!
I ran into this site on a google search for NinjaTrader 7 and ended up finding a great little community for one of my passions. So here's a little info about me and I look forward to getting to know you all better
I have been trading equities, options, futures and forex intensely for around 2 years now. I've had a diverse mix of spectacular successes and dismal failures. But through it all I've learned quite a bit. Recently, I decided to narrow my focus to futures & forex trading (mainly the ES) and to design automated trading systems in Ninjatrader. I've decided to go the safe road and sim trade until I have enough experience & confidence to consistently trade for a profit.
I am also in college pursuing a double major in Accounting & Finance. I was recently admitted into the Honors in Business program, where the goal is to produce a thesis paper in 1 year. Though the paper is still in it's inception phase, I have decided that the subject will be related to automated system trading. It would be great to be able to collaborate with the community here, and to be able to share the results of the paper when it is done.
Thanks to Mike for putting this all together, and I hope that I can learn and grow with you all in the future.

Hello to all, good to be with you, I have been a member for a short while, and am still working very hard on trying to understand. I like the S&P and will stick to that untill something happens to discourage me. I am sure that I will only do better by being here. Thanks Mike for the opportunity.
Howdy fellow traders, c12345 here, I am new to this forum, although I have been around trading for a few years, using Ninja trader, and Trade Navigator, mainly trade ES, QM,
I like trading 10's and 30 yrs, but also the ES (at this time-YM, NQ more in the past). I am also taking to the 6e. What I like about the indexes and interest rates is to look for a leader on either side and within say interest rates or indexes. In the past the link between bonds on stocks was well established and seems to have returned. It isn't always as simple as bonds going one direction and stocks the other. I like to watch the ES, YM & 5 & 10 year notes and also 30 yr bonds. One may lead among them. Other relationships apply between them and stocks. Also, you can watch the auctions for reacations. Others watch premium, etc. I do use indicators although the person from whom I learned to trade came off the floor. He will reference a long term moving average, but basically in uses "levels" of his own & market flow or "the book." Floor traders have the advantage in that they remember levels and what reacted where and keep it on hand. They can trade all day without a chart, just a screen filled with TT DOMS.
I've moved to using my own levels and looking for other ways to improve. Market Profile is excellent and it not only gives good levels but also can visually show internals. I use some Fibs for retracetment and targets. (Sitting here long ES at 44.75 and getting tired).
I work f/t so I trade some a.m. and late (way late, 3+ a.m.) because I'm too stubborn to give up if I think it will continue. I am always look to improve and noticed Sharkey's Journal and that's what promted this intro. I thought some of the aforementioned talk about intra-market relationships might be of interest. And I want to look at his method in action, but it takes time to implement new things. I also want to read PRACTICAL TRADING APPLICATIONS OF MARKET PROFILE by Tom Alexander Practical Trading Applications of Market Profile | Alexander Trading) as he might add to my MP interpreation. (no I'm not affiliated nor ever watched more than free info on his sight...I just cut & pasted to save time).
I like trading and enjoy it more all the time. I'm not a really consistent trader but I've been doing it in different forms for a long time (bought some call options around 1979 through a broker/friend in NYC. I went fishing liiterally and Iran took American hostages and that was that).
46 is short term resist in ES and I want to make a point. The reason I brought this trade up again is that I know some who like this time of day when you can make a trade without a lot of monkey business. I tried too late to catch the bid at half so gave up a tick, otherwise I would be out. Large trades are all long.
ES 09-09 Buy 1 1044.75 9/14/2009 10:10:19 PM

Hi Mike,
I really enjoy your site. However I am clueless as to how write Ninja programs. I hate to be just a sponge but I am just a neophite. I don't even understand what many of the programs and indicators on your site do, let alone how to use them!! But they are facinating and I am sure it took much skill and effort to construct them. Thank you very much for the opportunity to use these and maybe someday I will be a worthy contributor. Mike
Thanks for letting me in, this seems a very nice community.
Trading for over 5 years now, with ups and downs, making small consistent money, and I'm not losing any more.
Keeping my losses down, and sometimes letting a runner run, is for now my plan.
I need help doing that, and need also to keep trading bigger, trading now not more than 2 cars in YM and ES. (still scary because money was running out last year, was a very bad experience, now I have a nice job, and I can have more time and breath).
My charts are Supertrend, plus a HMA, simple as possible.
55 tick,150 tick, en 1 and 5 minutes.
I resigned from my last job to trade full time six years ago. I tried a few different methods and now settled in short-term trading of NG and ES. I have made a lot of mistakes like everybody else but after these years, I have learned to stick to my routines and stay away from fear and greed.
Mike's forum looks like a good place to learn and to help. I wish it can flourish into a helping community as we all know how difficult this journey is.

Hi,
I've been trading for a few years now, started with stocks then forex and now forex and futures.
I'm trading mainly using automated systems but do some trades sometimes when I see some interesting opportunities.
Green overall but not enough to make a living yet, still have to work (working in the finance industry).
Hi all, have been trading stocks and options for years, just started trading futures, 3 months paper trading and 2 weeks real money. Making small but consistent profits trading the es. Found this site while looking at a review of Viper trading systems, joined to download an indictor for Ninja. Looking forward to more great tips and info.
Hi Mike and other members,
I recently "discovered" you in the NT forums and have been reading your blog. I have already learned a great deal from you. I have been working very hard on my mental framework as I realize it's importance. But I have found that "better" the indicators the easier it is to keep my mind right. I have been able to experiment a little with some of yours. I think they're going to be very helpful. I can't thank you enough for the great info. you provide.

Thanks to Sharky for telling me about this community and to big Mike for getting it started...
I see that many of you have put *a lot* of time and effort in here to help each other and that there is a lot of depth to the site. Thanks for all of that! Love the international community aspect.
I learned the very first thing about trading in July '08 will have been trading live (on and off) for a full year, come November '08 - started with Forex: went live with MetaTrader. Shut down that account in Dec., due to what I experienced (and heard) about Forex being so unregulated. I got the lifetime license with NinjaTrader and took many of their webinars, focused solely on the ES -- and went live with NT in January '09. Wish I had started with something perhaps more manageable, like the ZN, 6E, as Sharky has recently suggested to me.. but went through many of the stages mentioned elsewhere on futures.io (formerly BMT); though, the way I experienced it was:
1. Lose money - a lot of it. lol
2. Lose less money and occasionally (ok. very occasionally) breakeven that week (kept overtrading).
3. Focus on not losing money, rather than on making it: Breakeven or make a little money by the end of the week. This is where I am now, but only because I've gotten more disciplined with very few live trades per day, and just looking for 8 ticks max. with 1 contract, still - but still putting in a lot of screen time in sim mode.
My background is writing/media (magazines and for the web). Then, in 2001, I bought a massage business, just as NC was gaining licensure (each state across the U.S. has different requirements). Also teach yoga.
Along these lines, at the same time that I was learning trading, I got my Series 6, life/long term care/health ins. licenses (financial advisor track) and worked for a financial services firm. But soon, they said I couldn't trade using NinjaTrader/Mirus Futures -- had to use 1 of 13 firms (only 3 of which did managed futures and that required a much higher min. account and 2x the commission cost - retail). So, I left that for now.
Mine is one of the often heard stories ... recently laid off. With visionbs of being a successful day trader. I have 8 trading sessions of virtual trading with 11 winning trades and 2 losing trades. So much for paper money now i think i am ready to try the real thing.
I am looking for ideas from the group.
Good luck to all you active traders

Nicely stated George -- Mine is a similar story to George & also slim_pikins -- career-ending injuries + age + wish to be independent + love researching.
As an example -- What are the stories that none of us see on the 7 o'clock news - important stuff that slips past the mainstream media?
And..... what clues do these off-the-big-radar reports provide to us?
But most importantly, can we use this info to inevitably save ourselves from succombing to yet another 'blown-upaccount?'
I cannot even program my VCR - so I am looking forward to sharing some of this type of research with you -- hopefully we can compare notes and gain glimpses of the big-picture events that will positively effect our trading fundamentals.
Hi. I have bought several books, systems, etc, and so far been disappointed.
I have been looking at OPTPro, and in researching them, I came across this
forum. I hope to learn to trade smarter than before. thanks, Mike
My story, briefly, is... I first became a stockbroker back in the late 1980's -- I worked at a couple of smallish regional firms in Minneapolis. Worked on a couple of IPO's, traded mostly stocks (and funds) for a wide range of people (a few of my clients were professional athletes, including a number of guys who played for the Minnesota Timberwolves). Since then, I've worked at a small, family-owned company here in Minnesota -- not related to finance in any way -- and I trade my own accounts ONLY these days. I'm one of those weird guys who thinks about numbers all the time -- a personality flaw -- if you ever meet me in person, I'll "zone out" on you in mid-sentence... that's because I'm chasing-down some meaningless number in the back of my head. Hey, we're all weird... in our own way.
Im new to trading, I've played on a few demo's, learnt some lingo, trawled through millions of web pages and blew a few quid on spreadbetting the indicies.
I wised up and have been learning some basics of forex trading and thats what I'd like to do. Intraday and short term is best suited to my personality.
I would appreciate any help tips guidance pearls of wisdom etc.
Look forward to reading some posts and contributing to the forum.

Just found Mike's site...very impressive. I have been trying to make it as a day trader for about 3 years, doing mostly ES. Not great results. Looking to develop consistency and discipline. Trading has been a great lesson in humility. Hope to share as much as I learn.
Mike, I have to say this is the nicest site and Blog I have every seen on trading.
I’m looking forward to getting to know all of you and even more excited to see what I can learn from everyone to help my trading become more and more profitable.
I’m mainly a scalp trader but also look to capture bigger moves when they present themselves. I mainly scalp trade the YM and place trades on a 133tick and confirm using two higher time frames 399tick and the 1197tick. I also view the YM, TF, NQ, & ES charts set at 30 minutes. And if all else fails I turn my monitors upside down. “lol”
I view trading like I do fishing “I love them both” I see a lot of similarities between both of them. In trading you can scalp and make a few dollars as like in fishing catch a few crappies and have a good meal, also in trading when you catch that big move its like hooking on to a Blue Marlin “Boy oh Boy” it’s hard to hold on to that one at times.
I guess trading is also like golfing just you and the ball and in trading just you and the mouse
I am an ex-software developer and spend probably too much time trying to automate the trading process. I have developed at least 30 different trading strategies using Tradestation. None of them work acceptably except as always maybe the latest one...
I day trade the ES only, using auto-trading and also manually.
I use TS for strategy development, auto-trading and charts and NT for manual order entry.
Hello my dear Trading colleagues,
I apologize and I hope that I am somewhat in spite of my poor English (my language german) may contribute to the community.
I was an investor. I bought my first stocks 1977th My strategy has always been
considered grossly Buy and hold, all stock, no options. Shares of many different
Firms good diversification. I was surfing on the waves fall of 1983, 1987, 1992. I've always slept well!
That was a good strategy to 2002. I had good results and was happy with it.
Now is another time and this is yesterday's news.
I then evaluate different ways to more consistency in my trading
give and take a different direction.
- Be careful with Zulutrade (automatic forex) That's good to see
what other forex traders to act and what kind of profits they do it. But if you have one or two three
bad signals, and receives generous Stop ------ Then it just
still down. I lost my money in a short period of EUR 3000th
- Be careful with investment projects. I did last year with one in Germany
Stock-known magazine with a 100% project was experiencet.Target it
in up to max. 2 years to enter a profit of 100% in stocks,
Options and certificates. Result: Abort due to too little capital to
15 months. EUR 800 were left to me from the original EUR 10000.
Now I am studying on the indicators, oscillators, the charts and so on.
Similarly, I now look webinars on the NinjaTrader to see what
Charting software is good for me and if I need any at all.
Also, I bought really capital investment coins in silver and gold because I
think that the crisis still continues.
But it's my dream to become a trader!
Thank you Big Mike and everyone else in this community
and contribute to help me achieve this difficult goal.
Good trades a good time and many greetings

I am one of those out of work general contractors still waiting for the stimulus package to actually make a difference!! Not wanting to lose everything I own, I had to find something to do that would replace the income I was used to making and needed to make to not go bankrupt. Although bankruptcy seems to be the new "fad" these days. I just can't succumb to that, too much pride.
So, here I am trying to act like a day trader. Like everyone else, I have lost money, about $20,000 since I started in Nov '08. Alot of that was blown on crappy books and tapes. Hell, I even took a trip to Vegas to get trained on someone’s software....what an idiot. The only thing I got from that was the memories and pictures of the strip!
So, now it is crunch time because I feel like the walls are closing in! Not a good thing.
But, enough about my troubles and let's talk about Big Mike. I somehow landed on this glorious site while googling for the "holy grail" of trading indicators. I gotta say, I am so happy I found you guys and I have already seen a change in my trading....to the positive side. Imagine that!!!! I am using the Wizards Holy grail template. I am amazed how much easier it is when you have indicators you can trust! I can't thank everyone enough who worked on and continue to work on all of these great indicators. You are all awesome!! And your work is very much appreciated!!
Please don't stop creating all of these wonderful indicators.
I have been trading futures about 12 years. My father was a professional trader so I guess that this was not an unexpected career choice. I recall first day trading e minis by phone to my broker at $25 a side and using 10 point stops. That seems crazy by today's standards but I was net profitable - a good point to remember.
I have been thru all sorts of markets - two good crashes, a subsequent bull market I fought against tooth and nail and then months of ES trading in 5 - 8 point daily ranges. ( That was the worst ) Probably the most important lesson I got out of all of this is that in trading we are simply playing a game with other people. "The market" is just an illusion.

I have been studying day trading for around 4 years now, with around 3 years trying to develop an automated system using clustered processing. My verdict was that consistently profitable automated trading was not possible (for me at least).
Since then I have found a good teacher, and am now profitable virtually everyday on sim, and am very close to switching to cash.
As with a number of you I have found that the less indicators the better, and I only use one.
Looking forward to joining all you profitable cash traders very soon!

Is there anyone out there from the Bellevue Washington area who can help a fellow Bellevue-ite? There are so many charts and graphs, all customizable, often times I feel like I'm getting off course by researching and learning things I will never use. Finding it difficult to formulate confidence and strategy. I've been in simulation mode for four months, and although I'm trading at 80% success rate, it isn't real time or real cash. I understand that valuable knowledge is worth a price.
I blew out 2 accounts back in 2000 an it really hurt me big time. I will never play stocks again. Manipulation on behalf of the corporate boys. I love the futures. I trade two days a week.

I'm just getting into Emini trading. I've been using the open range method successfully thus far but am trying to learn new methods for those days that the open range doesn't work. So far the "All you need" method looks good and the Volumestop v3 indicator is great in the small amount of testing I've done. Best of luck to all and I look forward to learning from all of you...
hi guys,
I'm new to futures trading, I traded some stocks, for a short period, but I turned my eyes to futures. I started 4 months ago and already lost half of my account
I hope I'm gonna find useful infos around here, advices more than welcome.
I don;t think I'm gonna be useful to some of you, so for now I don't have something to offer, but to take
Thanks and all the best
I would like to tell a big Thank you to Mike for this website/blog. Very interesting
Sorry for my bad English.
I'm Forex trader and sometimes ZN too.
I tested many different approaches but now I don't use indicators to make my plan.
I don't know if I can to indicate my blog address, www.1milliondollarsbaby.com If not please delete it.
You can have a look and if you understand French, you can find some articles about psychologie and other stuff.
Hello to you all,
First let me thank you for allowing me be part of the club.
It seems good money is being made here.
To be honest, I'm quite new in this business.
I used to buy and hold stocks, no more then that.
That did not work out in the way I wanted, so is was time to make a switch.
Time for action!
My favorite instrument at the moment is the Future Dax.
For the time being I'm using the services of an advisor, that are really profitable without any doubt.
But it would give me some extra satisfaction if I'd be able doing it on my own.
In my opinion this forum could be helpful in reaching my goals.
So I'm very anxious to know what future will bring.
I'm a semi-retired engineer.....I do a little design work for other firms at home since going through a very rough stint of chemotherapy. I'm finally smiling again, about life in general, but certainly not at my finances...they got tanked..no, the correct word would be sunk, by all the medical bills my insurance refused to pay.
Nevertheless, I'm still hanging on to a few bucks in my MB Trading account and am a steadfast NinjaTrader user.
I seem to have lost a lot of my indicators, especially the ones that duplicated the Blue Wave Precision Trading package........grandkids can do great things with a computer
Anyway, if someone out their can help me get those back, I would humbly appreciate it. They actually made me some good money IF, one uses his own common sense and removes greed from the equation.
Very Best Regards to all of you out there and it's a pleasure to see others pursuing their goals and dreams in life.

JP, Sorry to hear of your troubles. Hopefully there are some folks here who can help. I find the d9ParticleOscillator (Elite/VIP section) and SMI2 (Stochastic Momentum Index) particularly helpful. I don't suppose your "coverage" was through BlueCross/BlueShield by any chance, was it?
After all, it's what you learn AFTER you know it all, that counts!
It was just some indicators that I had downloaded from several sites that resembled the Blue Wave indicators. They were posted on several different sites but I can't find them now. I was able to use them with NT and change the setups to suit myself.
Thx for your reply.
Jim
I found my way here looking for replay data. Thank you B.M. for that.
After being encouraged to make an introduction - i read through at what was then 27 pages which mostly consisted of phrases like "i blew up my account seventeen times, but oh i learned so much loosing a shitload of money".
And now what am i supposed to feel compelled to write something like it!
Wrong: as a cardinal rule i don't get in over my head, and i think that neither should you.
And yes before you get pissed at me for writing this , maybe i got pissed at you for being so respect less with you're money. Think about it , i sure did. But hey its you re money.
What did you really learn losing all that money - i suspect that Losing is a painful experience.
If banging your head against the wall is a painful experience , I'm sure it will feel better the minute you stop doing it.
If you blew up more than one account you didn't learn you re lesson the first time, and than you re just stubborn.
One of the most important things in trading is to learn from you re mistakes and that of others.
Read , read , read, and than read some more.
If you lose , lose , lose than basically you learn that you are a (you guessed it) looser.
Don't condition you re self to lose , condition your self to win.
Winning is nice, i like winning and so should you.
There is nothing like the sweet smell of winning.
When you learn something that means that you adapt your behavior, if not, you didn't learn so much did you?
If action A didn't work the first time and not the second chances are it wont work a third time.
Maybe you should than try i don't know something else!
Sim trading is a wonderful thing. Sim trade until you re consistently winning. Before that point you will lose. If you lose until you start winning chances are you don't have enough funds left to take up trading serious. When you re ready to start - start small , the markets change and you need experience from different market conditions. The fact that you scored 10 points today don't mean that you will do the same at some other point in time.
Prepare for the worst , not just you're PT (Profit Target), maybe a mental stop and then a hard stop loss (SL). If you see signs of trouble ) i.e the mental stop getting hit - try to get out at break even or with a small loss. Don't wait for the hard stop loss to get hit - that is just you re parachute in case of the plane is crashing.
Sim trading is what I've been doing for more than a year with total dedication, and it has paid off.
Hard work , logic , a tight filter to separate the good stuff from the bad is crucial, the thing is you need to try different things, this is also how you learn,
but if i lose "sim-ing" , it´s not real money , i just learned another way to not make money, and thus I'm one step closer to making money.
at least 95% lose in the markets , that is 19 people of 20 , and number 20, that guy he will be taking the other 19 persons money and laugh himself silly all the way to the bank.
This tells you that you need an edge. You will not be a Olympic athlete just by buying a fly pair of Nike´s and do a couple of laps at the track. if you're aiming for the top - You get it. GET to WORK.
Do world class athlete's practice a lot? You betcha..! And so should you. Always come prepared.
And NO I'm not talking about indicators, they will simply not make you money. If they did how come everyone is not a winner in the market? Look at them , observe them , but never trade them and don't have them on you re screen as other than a highlight to make it simpler to read the market, not as a distraction.
And you can learn something from indicators , see them as a high-lighter and look at what the price is doing, and you can learn a thing or two. But look at historical data and realise that all indicators are right some of the time but hardly all the time, and they all show price or volume , or a combo of the two , and they lag.
So will you look at the road when driving or look at the treeline. Which way has the largest probability to get you to you're destination?
What should you do then. Study the basics is my suggestion.
Learn all the basic blocks till you master them.
Some you can surly learn here at the forum , but have you re logic filter on.
This is the part the kills the most: trading is more than an entry and an exit.
There are many facets to trading and you need them all.
I will write it again: The basics of trading is all that matters, learn them , master them.
Yes its hard , but its your journey, you need to take it by yourself, don't expect somebody else to just do your work for you. Its also a pleasure to achieve something , "something given has no worth".
If you're NOT aiming for pro, take up something else cause this is a really expensive hobby.
at least if you're trading live... and isn't prepared. (don´t believe me read previous pages in this thread).
Some people wont to lose. Yes you didn't misread. Some people play the market knowing deep , deep inside that they will indeed succeed at loosing. They play the market for the excitement it brings and to be able to call them selves traders.
You will simply not make it by luck either. This is called gambling. The problem with the human brain is that if you win sometimes, it will expect to win again, this is why people buy lottery tickets. even if the odds are millions to one, but the brain says if you can win small why not big.
If you look at it then go thinking hmm. than i must have one chance in 20 to make it in the markets, that's the same as 5% , and not one i millions like in a lottery.
Ouch...
Not really , cause you re in and out of the market in a heartbeat or less , looking at your charts feeling the rush of adrenaline to the head. than again , and again. And hey , you re broker loves this. Each time is a new flip of the coin, each flip and the odds are against you , stacking up. Oh. what is that , this rumbling and than you go "ShiiiiT" and the Niagara falls just flushed you away. (stay away from frames less than 5 min).
What do you bring to the table?:
MACD , and RSI and maybe reading a couple of pages in some books and hey you re ready. (the gambler in you loves this and you re broker does to).
Ready to go to war. Kill Kill Kill...
This is equal to attacking a bunch of SAS soldiers with pointy sticks, what are you the last Indian , they will shoot you down than eat you for lunch if nothing else is around. End of story, no more Indians.
So i don't gamble and neither should you.
And now i will get lots of replies saying that I'm so not-sensitive to you re emotions, but guess what the market does not care. Hope is only hope, and you re hoping and wishing that the market goes this way or that way does not make it so. Indicators might look like magic , but they are ipso-facto (or something) not magic. In fact magic does not exist or do you still believe in Santa (sharp learning curve ahead).
The fact is you don't need magic, you just want the easy path. You re looking for a shortcut that isn't there. Get to work..! Stop being lazy..!
And please spare me this is a forum where we come together to learn from one another, so only spell in a flowery way that's not hurting my feelings.
Well i got you're attention didn't i..?
The only one that is making yourself hurt is you.
The markets always bring you what you re asking for, if you re asking for pain you will get pain (Ed Seykota said something like this, and he is smart , remember to listen to smart people).
Stop the pain (=the drain of you re account).
This might get me banned, but i might just save someone some real pain so its worth it.
If you're still aiming for pro - i hope i see you on the other side.
This is you not listening

I agree with everything you said. Any experienced trader that makes money will agree, or should, imo.
And yes, this is a community about helping others. Your post should be an eye opener for some, and so long as your future posts are aimed at benefiting others then you will be welcomed and appreciated for sharing your thoughts.
The successful traders may be taking money from the unsuccessful traders when we play the game together, but off the field we are still friends and can help each other be better players.
Boy you sure hit us between the eyes with that introduction. Very well thought out and presented. I agree with everything you said. I find it amazing in my 3+ years of participating in forums that people discount the value of sim trading and jump right into the market with real hard-earned money. I make an assumption there. I guess that's the way they learned to swim too. Anyway, thank you for you comments and look forward to future participation.
I've been reluctant to introduce myself. I guess I'm just a lurker at heart but I know that getting involved will be better for my profitability.
Here's a little bit about me...
I tried to become a profitable trader about 5 years ago (in between careers) but was unable to make it. Lost about 10k and about 6 months. Went back to working.
About a year ago our business began to fail. At that time I knew I had to jump back into trading since (at my age) it is now about the only game in town for me. I believed (and still do) that given the right tools and mindset, I can actually make money at trading.
When I got back into the trading this time (about a year ago) I began with MetaTrader and Forex for a month or two without any success. I decided to go back to the futures but this time going for the GC gold and CL crude because of the large movements. I like the NinjaTrader program and I am eager to be able to use the finished version of NT7. It will be much better in many ways.
I have some pretty decent (in sim mode) manual trading methodologies (with my favorite whiz-bang indicators, of course) but when I trade live, the fear and greed demons play havoc with my normally profitable systems. I realized that my trading account may run out before I develop the nerves of steel that are a must for for manual trading so I have focused on finding, buying (or paying someone to write) automated NinjaTrader strategies that will work to make money. I would love to learn to make my own strategies for NT but with the limited time I have put into it, the instructions still seem pretty confusing. I guess I just have to force myself to take it step-by-step.
So, here I am. Diligently searching for information and tools that will that help me eek out some money. I suspect most everyone here is in the same boat except for those (I suspect very few) folks who are profitable now and are willing to help the others. I hope to be in the latter category soon.
By the way, this is really a great site. My compliments to Mr. Big Mike for not only his creativity and vision this site has, but having the perseverance to actually make it happen. Kudos! I think this site will help me (and others) tremendously to get into the profitable side of the group.
Richard

Sounds like you are heading the right direction, the tricky part is execution. I look forward to your other posts. The more you participate, the better trader you will become...as you start paying attention to things and holding yourself accountable for your methods/triggers, or questioning your beliefs and validating or discarding them.
I also encourage you to create a Journal. Even if it's a sim journal, it will greatly benefit you.

Hello
I also spent tons and tons of money on courses, indicators, the school of hard knox----donating money to other better traders etc.. It can be very hard experience and if you let it, be an elightening experience. I am choosing to look at all of this trading as a journey within myself and other human beings and just take everything as a learning experience.
I recognize that I have to make it extremely important to be nice to myself and let go of beating myself up which is very common. The more I master this way of being, and following my trade rules and coming up with good ones that seem to put the odds in my favor, the more I look forward to the future of having the kind of lifestyle I say I want for myself and my family.
This goal will happen and I am patient:-) When it does happen, I will say "oh, I guess I was meant to learn that it does not matter that I got knocked down, but just that I kept on getting back up and to stop running into the same wall and grow and progress."
This kind of power makes it all worth losing say $20k in a single day then another $10K then next day! The kind of power it takes to come back from this is the exact kind of power it takes to be able to pull out a six figure income every year out of the hardest thing to do----day trading futures!
New to trading the e-minis, been position and swing trading stocks and options for a few years. Hope to learn a lot and contribute something to this forum.
I trade the ES for a year, but I'm not satisfied with the results.
I use QuoteTracker and NinjaTrader. I'm glad that I have found this forum and hope to learn a lot here.

Hello fellow traders,
Just a short introduction, and to get in phase with the other traders, I too am trader!
I will trade for food!, and have jokes too. Actually, I started in Wall Street, in NYC, programming trading and trades support systems and grew through the ranks, eventually becoming a floor trader and later in life a proprietary trader on an equities desk. After that life, I became a futures trader and developer again.
I have multiple degrees and often participate on and in economic discussion threads, as well as trades related issues.
I have really appreciated what BigMike and the crew have done here and on this thread, as its through sharing openly that we all benefit and help others who are sincere in their trading too. Its through community like these that the average traders make both friends, compatriots and survive through this onslaught of salesmen, software vendors, questionable brokerage practices and such. In the futures industry, there is a common database that all (mostly all) brokers list their customers name, address, other key identifiers and their experiences with that firm, both good, and particularly bad. This is done to prevent a malicious client from wreaking havoc on consecutive firms down the line. Similarly, through websites and services like these, traders can and do post their experiences with firms, vendors and the like, in an obvious attempt to prevent being wreaked havoc upon themselves and others too.
