Hi Big Mike

At the moment, I'm a trader wannabe.
Started using Ninjatrader and basically am following DOW 30 using S&P500 when I need confirmation for any strategy I may think has grail potential.

I'm messing around with the ZigZag and SMA and have started learning C# as the wizard cannot save under a different file name when changes have been made.

A storm took out my ethernet port and have just borrowed a wireless router to see if this is the route to take, so my communication will be a little intermittent over the next few days.

Regards,

Barry

Hello all,

I first got into commodities in 1998, $2000 in an account with $75 commissions per contract per side. A lot of screen time watching and learning, waiting for what looked like setups (big gaps, unusual spread ratios, etc) and using options just previous to government reports. I had 15 min delayed quotes, and had to call my broker three time zones away to place and order (I'm in California), who in turn would call the desk at the exchange. I would usually get a report of a fill about 30-45 minutes later.

I wanted to do spreads but my broker would only drop the commission to $65/side per contract, which meant that a trade had to do better than $260 just to break even.

After 5 months, I had dropped from 2k to $1900 in my account, but thought of myself as successfull in getting a trading education and making about $3500 for the broker

My wife thought otherwise, and we agreed to close the account.

Learned about stop hunting and other advantages the floor traders had through Futuresource forums at the time; I am so glad to have found bigmiketrading for advice from those who trade successfully.

Now beginning again, this time with more time and more money, my main emphasis is on risk control and learning the software available now. I still like spreads and options, and I am constantly studying fundamentals more closely than the technicals.

Right now, checking out the tools at Optionhouse' online platform tools for index and equity options; also X-trader free platform at velocity futures. My accounts are still pending at both brokers, but I really need to get comfortable with the software anyway.

Hi Folks,
I have been reading here a while but just signed up. I am a beginner based in Australia, quite serious about learning trading but currently in struggle mode! My background is in IT Networking, systems architecture and so forth and that's still my full-time job, but I hope to retire one day (year?) soon and trade from home. I have plenty of programming experience which I have started to put to use via some back-testing with Multicharts. Perhaps I can be of some use to members despite my inexperience?
Currently focusing on forex, a daily and a couple of intra-day strategies. Can't help but keep an eye on the equities markets although I know I am supposed to be specialising..
cheers

Hello all,

I've been trading for a year and half now, but without big success. But I don't give up. I hope that after being impressed by the overwhelming amount of information, this forum may help me to find the right trading strategy that suits me.

I'm based in Berlin, but travel a lot around.

Hi Mike, all,

I am rather new at trading but used to working hard, analytical and very experienced with software development.

The work Mike does and the forum are in league of their own and it will help me a lot.
Hope to contribute somehow and will look for opportunities.

In the mean time will bug you with questions.

Kind regards

Hi there,

My name is Ray and live in San Diego. I have been learning forex for the past 5 years and finally became profitable this past year after spending every available minute looking at the charts it seems

I have blown several accounts and had several mentors- some good some not. Spent more time and $$ than I ever thought I would to learn this - and still learning. I work full time in IT and have an asshole for a boss.
It has been my goal the past 5 years to be able to trade full time. I plan on this transition within the year.

I have a year of expenses saved to live on and am building my trading capital accounts. Currently using MT4 but am also interested in Multi Charts. ( Which is actually how I found this site).

I am currently participating in a body transformation contest- grand prize will add another $7000 to my account. 9% fat loss so far in 8 weeks, 4 weeks to go. Wish me luck

Anyway, I stumbled on this site and noted the quality of members and posts that appear top shelf so I had to join.

All the best

Ray

I just heard about Big Mike's through another webinar for MTPredictor so I decided to check this out to try and learn more. A bit about me first though. I'm a high school math teacher in Canada and first got interested in trading by reading various websites online. One of them happened to be JSmineset and reading Sinclair was a real enlightenment to seeing what was going on in the world of trading and money flows, basically everything. Jim did say that the one thing that did work all the time was fibonacci retracement levels, which is why I got into MTPredictor, which I think is outstanding software. Of course, the software is only part of the answer - the other is the trader himself, and I'm still learning to apply it correctly and learning about psychology and how to manage my own. I still have a lot to learn since my time available to trade is limited to the summer when I get time off from teaching. I want to learn as much as possible so that when I eventually retire from teaching, I hope to be able to apply the knowledge I will have accumulated studying trading and trying my hand at it. Having blown a few trading accounts, I know I have a lot to learn yet, so that's why I'm here. I recently started studying cycles from JM Hurst as well for swing trading and find that fascinating, especially since I'm a math teacher. Too bad it's not in the curriculum to teach at school.

I'll keep this short & quick.

I took a hiatus after having nearly a 20% drawdown last year. It was my first time trading and I got out of the markets immediately when I realized I was clueless. I read a couple of chapters in a book and I thought I had the complete grasp of what it takes to be a successful trader. However, I am glad to say that I have never blown out!

That was in October 2011 (that volatile period killed me) and after 5 months of doing nothing but studying, simulating, research, planning & organizing, and I have just now started testing a strategy with a small amount of capital. So far, so good.

I'll open a journal in the future but right now I'm enjoying the ideas I get from other journals and continuing to test and, hopefully, prove my strategy. I'll be posting more in the future and everyone will be able to get to know more about me then.

Hi gang,
Just found this site while doing some cyber surfing, Looks like the place for me. I used to participate on other trading forums, (different user name) but the unprofessional antics and negativity became more than I could stand. I've been trading part time for many years. Grinding away, no major account swings since the tech bubble. Just a steady and for the most part, upward equity curve. I hope to learn a thing or two about programming, as I have a method that I trade that would benefit from a bit of automation.

Hi,

I'm a private trader and my name says it all.

Messed around for a number of years with swing trading while at work but work ended a little under 2 years back and I decided to make a go of day trading. As you might guess its been the most difficult easy thing I've ever done.

Seen a few sites and this one seems to suit me more than most so I'm going to start a diary here in the hope of taking myself from marginal (profitable without commissions) to where I need to be.

I think you have a clue. I know some clueless who've blown everything multiple times. clueless. It's easy to sit on the periphery and see how to make money.

The leverage is very attractive for certain of us. Knowing how to protect yourself from getting hammered by it seems like the highest priority. I prefer learning that with a small account.

Good trading,
Bramil

Ray, congrats on the transformation.

I have never spent so much time at a desk, and my transformation is going the wrong direction. I'm currently in the San Diego area as well; just bought a bicycle off craigslist and starting to put it to use.

Jeeper,

I'm interested in the things you're trading, especially currencies, bonds, gold, oil, and natural gas. It seems all these are related to each other in one way or another.

Maybe this should be another thread, but I personally believe the Fed is setting us up for some bad inflation, trying to inflate the US out of debt. I'm looking for strategies to profit from that long term: especially 2013 and beyond.

The Fed has said that they will not raise interest rates through the end of 2014. I think they will have to before that, and I want to know, is there a best way to take advantage of a surprise rate hike?

I know I have a lot to learn, but I believe its prudent to know how to prepare for some moves within the next year.

Thanks, Bramil

I finally registered for an account after lurking for a while. A little about my trading career. I been trading forex for a while and in the process of switching from Forex to futures. My main reason I am switching is my style of trading is more respected in this market than forex. Well thats my personal opinion but from what I been gathering it just respects my style.

My style of trading is supply and demand. I find supply zone and demand zones set limits with my take profit and stop loss and go about my life. I am one of those traders who switched system after system with no results. I came close to blowing accounts but have not yet. i have always had good money management skills before even trading. Guess it paid off being a tightwad with my money since I was poor most of my life.... Now just a normal guy looking to do this full time. i still got a ways to go but thats ok. I am enjoying the journey.

I have no college education like a lot of traders but i have one thing some don't. i grew up poor and had to adapt to survive. Was not fun but it has made me a strong minded person and also compassionate towards others needs.

Enough rambling from me, just want to say hello and glad to be here. Seems like this will be my new hangout. Lots of good info on this site with people who want to help each other make it. What more can you ask for?

Have been trading stocks for about 3 years, wanting to learn because I was not happy with the big draw downs that I was taking in my retirement accounts. Seems that all the brokers wanted was for me to keep the
dollars flowing in and not worry. Then came the free fall and they were nowhere to be found. So I am going to try it on my own. Finding out that I need to study and plan, this site is one of the better ones that I have found no snake oil salesman here.

Hi Mike n All,
this forum looks like one I want to be involved with. I like Big Mike's rules for the room and this is certainly a place where everyone is the student and the teacher, regardless of their experience, otherwise we would be here, right?

Anyway I live in the northern beaches of Sydney, trade full time and I have like most, made some and lost some but overall my money management has been the key to my survival. I have just switched my charting package from Ensign to Ninja and hence finding this forum.

I trade the SPI, DAX and the FX Majors occasionally.

cheers
Birko

hope you have already learned your lesson on depending on other successful traders to guide and lead you in your own trading.

there are abundant of trading guru abroad here as well. they are just in different kinds of clothing not so easily recognized.

just hang on to your own money for the time being, until you can prove to yourself that your own trades are profitable and consistent, K?

if and should you have any questions about trading, do not be too coy; just ask in the forum here--there are plenty of honest souls who would take time to spell out the alphabets for you, K?

wishing you successful trading here. cheers

Thanks Big Mike for Having this forum Looks like a wealth of priceless information. I have been trading for about three years on and off, never really made any money, would always do well one day and lose it all the next. I hope to change that and become a consistent and profitable trader.

Hi all,

I recently joined and I'm thinking seriously of leaving the business world and trading full time. My background includes risk managment roles at the CME, a large commodity broker, a world class hedge fund and currently, a major international bank. I have an MBA from an Ivy League school - which I know isn't worth squat for trading. I've traded in the past (mediocre at best) an I'm familiar with the challenges. I've used Tradestation in the past and prefer mostly automated trading and in particular, would like to develop my own techniques with .NET and C#. I also really like F#.

So far I've been reviewing Ninja Trader for it's C#-like scripting but I wonder if there are any other platforms that support dll integration without having to also be compiled in a particular language like NinjaScript apparently requires.

Comments?

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to quickly intro myself. I've been trading for 4 years now and its been nothing short of a roller coaster ride. I started in 2008 with Bright Trading using a pairs trading/ statistical arbitrage strategy with NYSE stocks. Worked great when the VIX was sky high but I found out that the strategy did not suit my personality. After leaving Bright I got into futures day trading as intraday scalping is more suited to my psychology. I made the mistake of trading Crude futures off the bat and quickly got my arse handed to me. I dabbled in the NQ's but have found my home with the S&P emini's. I have studied and used Market Profile, cumulative delta, and footprint charts but in the past year I have geared towards an Al Brooks price action trading strategy with a few other variables. Strictly technical and no lagging indicators and a keen focus on price progression. Minimalism surprisingly has been the key. I hope to bounce and share ideas off fellow traders and vice versa. I'll post to suiting threads and if anyone out there trades in a similar fashion to me, feel free to PM me.

Cheers

I have been lurking the forums here for a long time since i have been more active on another forum but the quality here outweighs the amount of unneessary banter i have to siphon through over there.

I am an active Futures and Spot Market trader with heavy focus on DAX , Crude and Gold and will definitely be posting more frequently here once i have my VF account open.

Hi guys!

I've been interested in trading for a long, long time. However, I always thought of it as a dream and not really a possibility.

This forum certainly seems like an opportunity for me to figure out how to start and to be successful.

I hope to learn a lot and appreciate the opportunity!

I'm here on the recommendation of a friend.

Now I'm off the market in simulation (as many I ruined my initial account) but I would like to come back soon. I hope I have learned something and do better, but the truth is that I have lived long the trading nearly in solitude learning by myself, but it was not exactly a free choice...

On the one hand I had bad experiences with brokers (I do not give names in public -I am not authorized-, but I will do in private if someone wants to know): one of them is well known and literally never gave me a demonstrable reason of over 1,000$ that he put up as a loss in a strategy that he had, another, also well known, took from my account almost three months after an operation on the DAX the exchange value of this day and, of course, also as a cost to me... I do not know if this is because the brokers are from the U.S. and I am from Spain and a claim is very difficult, but... anyway, s is my experience and now I don't know how to choose the next.

And for the courses it wasn't better: "There are more people that are living from teaching trading than from the trading"... I don't want to say much more but, for example, I have a blog where I speak only about a person that cheated me with a course that was worthless, now I maintain this blog only for preventing other people about this person who continues selling courses.

I do not want to complain, ¡no way!, only clarify why I have said that I have lived in solitude the trading... But I have recommended this website and I hope to change this, to learn and, maybe, help others if is possible.

Best regards and good hunting!

Hello All,

I have traded the markets on and off for the past 15 years. I was full time day trading 1997-2000 before going to college and law school. Excited to be on here with others. Let's see if I can get the hang of this forum thing.

Hi Birko,
I used to live on the Northern Beaches myself until The Great Escape. Still it's not real tough up there
I have just begun watching the 5min on the SPI during regular trading hours and would appreciate any tips here on the forum. What's your trading style? From my armchair I saw at least 3 good trades yesterday for only 1 small loss but still learning to execute well on my platform, just demo for the time being. Hope to see you around.

Thanks for the forum Big Mike!

I'm a complete beginner in all matters pertaining to trading (shares, forex etc).

Tried forex in the past with no strategies or knowledge of how the market works, needless to say it was an expensive lesson.

Fast forward 2 years and my interest in forex has flared up again. This time however I'm learning as much as I can before jumping into market with live money.

Hope this forum can help.

Cheers

Dan.

I took a break from trading for a couple years and now I'm trying to figure out which direction I'm going to jump back in.

I don't want to overload myself with anything, just want to find some good, simple, and solid ideas I can build upon myself and trade profitably.

Cheers.

Hello all!

I am jumping into the exciting world of trading, its not something that I have considered in the past but I have an addictive personality and an analytical mind, so I have been researching and researching and decided to join this forum so that I can learn more about this exciting "sport" (as I have heard it described).

I am not planning on using real money for a while, but I will be getting as much practice in as I can.

Thanks for having such a great place to read up about the successes (and failures) of trading, and I hope to find myself in a place where I can, at least, gain more than I lose!

Cheers,

Binz

Good day,

My partner and I have traded for ourselves for over 15 years. We began a small CTA as well and concentrate on a strict Oil only program which trades only once a day at a specefic time. We also provide clearing and execution services for other Brokers/Traders through RCG. We have a website at conoverfutures and can be found on Linkedin as well under the same name.

We look forward to participating and hearing from other like minded individuals.

Regards,

Joe and Neil

Glad to join, Mike

Hello all and thanks Mike for making such a great resource available.

I've been trading on and off for about 16 years in stocks and options... mostly off and completely unprofitable until very recently (I finally started making a little money - hopefully that can continue). A couple of years ago I decided to try out Forex to see if I would have an easier time. No such luck. My biggest problem is establishing an entry method that I'm comfortable enough with to stick with it for more than 5 minutes.
I coming to the Forum hoping that the collective wisdom here will be enough to get me over the hump, to get me profitably trading on a regular and consistent basis...

Any way, good to be here...

Great trading everyone.

Hello Mike and fellow forumers,

Thank you a lot for taking the time and effort to setup, maintain and participate in this forum.

It is the best trading forum I have seen so far as the general atmosphere is focused on helping and all aspects of trading are dealt with in equal importance.

My focus is on trading equities. I started off in early 2011 with basic technical analysis knowledge and of course, had a succession of losing trades. Then i took a break to study my previous mistakes and learn new stuff. The second time of trading was better but results were still very eratic and my emotions were in a wreck sometimes.

In late 2011, I stopped trading and took a break again to review my mistakes, practise on the SIM and take journaling more seriously. After this, I am looking forward to trading live again with small trade sizes this time and to also start an online journal here.

Thanks Mike for this wonderful forum

hello everyone

first of all, thank Big Mike for setting up such a friendly forum!

I have been working with hedge fund and prop trading firm in past 5years, from manual trade to DMA to low latency high frequency trading.

Now I decide to trade from home, so that I can look after my son at the same time.

I found this forum today when I was googling "volume strip" stuff. After reading some posts for a few minutes, I decided to join this forum. This is the one I have been looking for.

Hope can learn from others in this forum and help ppl if I can.

cheers

Hi all !

I've been a quiet reader on futures.io (formerly BMT) forum for quite a few months and now I have to state that this is the best place I've ever been to since I started my little trading career about 8 months ago.

I already learned a lot from all the experienced guys hanging around here, so thanks a lot for being a part of Big Mike's community here !

So, please keep up your fantastic work, and perhaps I can give my 2 cents to some discussions around here.

Hello All!

I am a software bithead and project manager by profession and have been a student of the markets for about 10 years, although more intensely over the past 4. I have traded stocks, options and emninis (ES, NQ & TF). I have not yet been successful, even though I think I am a fairly good technical analyst. It's the more important part of trading that I haven't masterd yet, but I'm still trying.

I am a TradeStation EasyLanguage indicator programmer and just finished my first NinjaTrader indicator. Fun stuff. Looking forward to writing more for NinjaTrader.

Big fan of Emini-watch.com and VSA (ala TradeGuider.com). Familiar with Market Profile. Pristine trained.

I look forward to participating in the Big Mike site!

Thanks

Scott

I have been trading off and on for years. I joined this forum over a year ago as a temporary elite, but then got sidetracked. I have wanted to reply to some threads, but can't because I have not posted 10 times,, not sure how to post if not on a thread... I'll check the FAQ,

I trade mainly ES. Tried some proprietary indicators from a friend. Analyzed to death for nearly a year, then traded money as the indicators were now barely covering commissions.

Now I am trading with a guy with a small room and it is working pretty well.
I really like this forum... is there anyway I can just upgrade (pay the difference) from the "partial" elite to the full?

Hi to Big Mike and fellow traders.

I've been traders futures contracts for 5 yrs, stocks and options for 10.
Never blown any accounts and unlike most traders who go looking for indicators and charts
all over the net, I looked inside, I visualized the perfect charts and indicators and like magic they began to show up
one by one. I know, "sounds a little esoteric but herd mentality is not in my genetic makeup."

Hi everyone,
I've been trading futures primarily ES and occasionally 6E and ZS since 2008. Mostly day trading but with occasional longer term folds.

On the plus side I've never blown my account but neither have I made much after commissions. So still waiting for the final piece of the puzzle to fall into place.

PS. Gave up trading oil after I was short at $140 ish just as the decline started and got out after a couple of $ only to see it collapse.

Hello,

I am in the stock market since long but since my day time job I could not concentrate much on trading. Now I am retired and have sufficient time and experience I want to do the thing which I like Most. That is trading.
Thank you

Nothing original with my story.

similarly, blew up accounts in 2007, since, have read tons of books, memeberships in forums and rooms, online courses, margin calls again.
After all, I understood that 50% of trading is psychology. Until you get right attitude towards trading and get knowledge about your emotions, you are on your way to the next "margin call".
Since 2010 April, working well.

Hi Gang,

really like being a part of this community. Have learned a great deal just by reading all the good input found here. I'm looking to see if anyone is familiar with the Gann Square of Nine indicator found in the ninja forum. I can't get those to download into ninja 7 was just wondering if anyone knows of where I could find it for ninja 7 users. Thanks Big Mike for supplying us with such a great and useful website.

I'm a 39 year old swede.

I've worked on and off with the internet since 1995 with a couple years off in the late 00s when I played professional online poker for about 3½ years.

Before the dot.com crash I had some options in the company where I then worked and I cashed out on those to get close to $500,000 which I then placed in other IT companies and subsequently went down in flames. Like so many others I thought that stocks were easy and always went upwards.

Now a decade later I'm curious to back into the markets somehow and this time I'm a bit interested in Forex. I have read some and watched a lot of instruction materials from Steve Nison, Chris Lori, Martin Pring and others and now I feel I'm getting the grasp on some basic tools. I'm currently struggling a bit though on how to combine the separate tools into a working toolbox.

I've learned a bit about MT4 and also Ninjatrader (I do know C#) and currently only trading demo apart from a tiny sum I have on Etoro copytrader just for the giggles.

This seems to be a great community and I hope to be a part of it.

Hi all,

I'm a 31 year old former broker who worked for a clearing house who recently screwed the futures business. I had an account in the early 00's that I punted around and never really made anything out of it. I'm not giving this a go full time and having trouble admitting when I’m wrong and taking a loss. I enjoy this site as it's a form of interaction with others doing the same. I mostly trade CL but will trade the metals and CC's if I see an opening. I hope I’m around long enough to get to know some of the big guys on this site. Good luck to all.

Andrew G

Hi All,

I was encouraged to sign up here by my trading mentor. He spoke very highly of this forum, and I am excited to become a part of the community. With your help, I look forward to learning as much as I can, and I look forward to giving back once I hone my skills.

I am a 26 year old former professional poker player. I opted to go back to my normal day job in finance after the major internet sites closed down to U.S. players last year. My job is good, but I miss the feeling of success that comes from using my talents, discipline, and judgement to succeed where most others fail. I also miss the security that comes from knowing I am an expert at something that nobody can take away from me - to know that I'll always be OK regardless of what happens in my professional career.

I am a hard worker with a background and track record of success when it comes to matters of emotional discipline and money management, and am eager to learn as much as I can about this trading thing.

All the best,

Rob

Hey all,

I'm excited to lean on the wisdom of those more experienced in the trade. I'm 23 years old, finishing my BS in finance, getting married next month, and planning to start trading full time at the end of May. I fell in love with the markets at age 18. I bought puts and calls on equities, quadrupling my account within four months (and managed to destroy most of it soon after!). I spent a few months last year blowing up the better part of a small futures account, but am prepared to do things correctly this time around. Again, I'm excited to be able to be a part of this online community and am excited for the journey ahead. I have every bit of confidence this will be a successful venture in my life, but am being careful to not underestimate the challenges that probably lie ahead. I probably got into this five years ago with the idea of making quick money. Now I'm here to beat the game and provide for my soon-to-be family by doing so!

Mike

Hi Guys, this the first time I subscribed to a forum. I am a very average trader and I am trying to improve my trading results. I am 25 years old living in Kuwait with an average account mostly around break even and business management diploma graduate.

I trade NQ, TF, CL, YM and 6E. Major instruments I trade are NQ and TF. I hope I and other members on the forum can benefit from this forum and share idea. I hope I can be consistently profitable with trading NQ Futures so I can start paying bills with confidence myself. Happy Trading all!

I started trading for a company in 2000 and was only 1 out of 5 traders that made money. I quit my job and started an educational process of what I call "the money game". I took coaching in trading Commodities, Real Estate, business and psychology. I had to re-define "my world"; it was different than I thought. I trade Futures and I love what I do. It has brought me everything I wanted.

Hello everybody,

I started to learn trading in 2010 with moderate success. I developed my own system but unfortunately there is a big psychological gap between results I have on paper and live trading. Currently I concentrate on trading psychology and in spare time I develop automated trading system. I hope that information from futures.io (formerly BMT) will help me with my effort.

Hugos.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for setting up this forum it is a rel help. I have lost lots of money over the past few year in so many different instrument with it all coming down to risk managment and lack of knowledge. This forum is great as it will help improve knowledge with all the generous people contributing.

I am looking at multicharts to set up an auto trading system. Some great posts exist so thanks to everyone.

I'm originally from England, but now reside in Canada as my wife's career brought us here.

I still trade the European exchanges, specifically Dax Futures. Would like to expand into the US markets eventually. Totally different rhythm to learn! I hope to get some of that education from some of these threads.

cheers,
