Hello this will be my first time fully trading futures I really didn't know much about this market but I am happy to have found it and excited to learn but literally I do not know anything about futures it's a whole new ball game to me I'm excited though. Is there any training involved that is step by step for newcomers

I would say submerse yourself in the money management side. Know the "Trader's Equation" as Al Brooks puts it as this is necessary no matter what style of trading you do.

Alot of new traders try to learn to predict. No one can predict! Period. The closest we can get is identifing areas where we can structure a trade so if we took that same-ish trade 1000 times we'd likely have a positive number.

The problem is theres no way of knowing WHEN and WHERE those winners and losers are going to be... its a distribution.

So understand to win you need more money in the account then when you started with and the only way to do that is to either have winners that are MUCH larger than your losses or you have a HIGH winning rate (very hard to do)

I know thats not specific but if your new read this book.

https://www.amazon.com/Mental-Game-Trading-Confidence-Discipline-ebook/dp/B09253NDBB

There are NO charts. No strategies. But IT IS about trading and it's the best footing you'll ever get no matter where you are because eventually you'll find out YOU ARE the market.

You are the soul decision making trading entity that will decide whether or not you have what it takes... and it ain't technicals... those are EASILY learnt.

If I can answer any questions fire away. If I don't know I'll say. And know one knows it all.

Anyway welcome @southtc!

Hello dear friends,

My name is Robert, I am a skilled Forex and Futures trader with 12 years of experience. I started my career in Business Management at a Credit Score Repair startup, eventually moving to the First Republic Bank where not only I helped the company expand, but I also learned about investing and finances. I started getting involved in investing and eventually decided to become a full time trader. After 12 years of a successful career with up-and-downs I want to share my knowledge with people from all over the world and want to become a successful writer.

Thank you,

I look forward to hearing from such an experienced trader. Welcome

Hey everyone,

After trading options, stocks, forex, and crypto. I fell in love with trading and have set a mission to become one of the greatest. I really enjoy the trend following methods. If anyone can refer me to trend following strategies/indicators, or any other useful material let me know!

About me: I have blown my account due to ill risk management multiple times and vow to do better. Taking it one step at a time!

I'm not a trend follower but I'm curious. Do you mean true trend following as in millions of dollars spread out over many assets? Or do you mean riding a trend?

If you mean true trend following "Michael Covel" in my mind is one of the best and he has endless content... books, videos, course ect.

If you are talking trend trading might need more specifics.

Good luck finding

Yes on both. Michael Covel type trend following is very successful longterm and I assume the same trend indicators are used but for long term. I have multiple methods right now, bur I am looking for others inputs on strategies they use. It is always helpful to keep an open mind towards others finding if they are kind enough to share. Riding a trend is very important but to identify it with technical indicators is what I'm searching for.

Aiming to be medium to long term trend follower trading stocks, etfs and futures in a Roth. Have traded stocks, etfs and options on and off for over 30 years but never with any real risk control. Been studying and reading and watching. Never traded futures so most deficient in that area. Hoping to get useful insights and start trading with appropriate risk control and position sizing.

There are much smarter people on here than me so I'll let them take over but "trend riding" and "trend following" are totally different.

With trend riding you are looking to catch short term trends and take what you can out of them.

Trend following is not even worth barking up that tree unless you have a BARE MINIMUM of $100,000. You are using diversification as your edge to find the outliers that will pay for all the others. And as simple as it might seem I'm sure it's not.

Thank you for allowing me to participate. I have been learning to trade futures for two years, and four since I was introduced to the markets. My progress has been slow and painful. I have had some success but also some downs. I have blown several accounts and also funding tests. I am hopeful that this community will help me. I would like to meet successful traders and learn from them.

Cool site!

Been on the dark side of FX and now doing some prop, looking to swap and share my knowledge.
Been writing bots and loads of indicators, but now interested in applied ML/DL.
Now, trading mostly /ES and /CL + small caps + crypto.

Hello Mike and Everyone Else,

I have traded with intermittent success for about 20 years, never successful enough to really make it a full-time career. In the last twenty years, I joined the military at 37 years old, serving eight years. Then I decided I want to return to college since I failed out when I was younger and I started that journey in 2014.

I am currently studying for my Ph.D. So, I figured since I am trying to accomplish a lot of things I should have done when I was younger that I would come to trading. I had/have probably a lot of the bad habits as most people when they start. I need discipline, accountability, and patience. These attributes can be learned, so I am trying to change my character using my experiences from the military and college.

My style is something fluid at the moment, I have tried technicals for most of my career but to no avail. Ina previous life I worked for an investment bank. The currency traders' desks didn't have charts, just depth of market so order flow trading. That is how I will hopefully learn to become a more consistent trader. Before the military, I had a very high-paying consultant position with a multi-national, in the military I learned that I could happily live on a much smaller budget, approximately 75% less than my consultant lifestyle.

Therefore, my goals are to generate enough income to pay for software, hardware, and seminars I may want and eventually build an income stream for retirement.

I am looking forward to trying to make a difference for the better to the forum.

K.

Great step and welcome to the forum.

You are already light years ahead of most people if that you realize (assuming you have a profitable strategy) that trading IS about patience and discipline and NOT just technicals.

Hope you all the best

Hi to All , my name is Justin . I'm from Jacksonville NC , spent a lot of my life in the Marine Corps then later moved on to powerline construction which I am still currently heavily involved in . I started my trading career about 2 years ago part time in my spare time and fell in love instantly. I have lost a whole lot more than I have made , had great days and worse days. recently I have dived heavily into order flow on my recently acquired Jigsaw platform which I am loving but still find myself using Tradestation a lot too, mainly because that's my comfort zone. I feel as if I have an extremely profitable strategy, my downfall is risk management. risk management is where I need some real help, I am currently in a Topstep combine and after a few resets I have forced myself to manage risk a little more but could still use a whole lot of work . I am not positive I have chosen the right market to trade but I absolutely love the speed of the NQ! the ES and CL are great during normal open market hours but I cant trade at that time so I have found myself gravitating towards the NQ because it seems to move pretty good all day and all night . This might be where I'm messing up just setting myself up for failure with this fast market. Hopefully if I just focus on the NQ and learn its ins and outs I will eventually become consistently profitable because I do love the speed and it makes me really think ! Good day to all !

Thanks for the welcome. I have been trading options for a while but I am fairly new to futures and have had very little success with it. I am hoping to put together a trading plan and a strategy for success. Have been primarily trading the micro ES.

Hi guys,

I came into trading a year ago after 10 years of NYC real estate experience, as a broker/buyer/seller. Taking that experience with my background as an ex-military fighter made me feel very natural in these volatile markets. As any good fighter knows, the best way to improve your skills is getting back in the ring and learning from those who have been in it for a long time. I look forward to both learning and contributing as much as I can.

I'm glad to have found this forum! I started trading Forex a few years ago and have traded everything (stocks, crypto, options) since. I've lost money to all of them. I began trading futures in early 2020 during the big Covid market crash and have been hooked trading them ever since.

I've found more success trading futures (ES, NQ) than with any other products. Although I am glad to have suffered those loses for those first few years. It's made me a better trader today.
