TOS pushed another updated this morning and wallah.... everything I've done over the weekend, putting things back after they wiped all my stuff out Saturda morning... GONE

All this for only 9.95 per trade, mmm... what a bargain!

Been on hold waiting for Tech Support for 33 minutes at this point they are "currently experiencing higher than normal call volume".

I love their charting tool, especially the scripting I've created for it, but I'm questioning whether I can afford to continue doing business with a group of what I can only assume is a group of teenagers playing at being a broker.

Hello,

Is anyone else having issues installing the latest upgrade? It was an unusual upgrade as TDA was announcing to 'allow more time than usual' but when I try to install it I get the error "Problems updating JRE, Try again later"

And now I can't open any version. I tried downloading ToS from TDA website but I still get the same error when trying to install.

Anyone else in the same situation?

Thanks!

My situation is slightly different - the new upgrade on Jan 21 has made the platform slow to a crawl - it is so slow that it is unusable. Even with all the adjustments to the memory allocation - it can no longer handle charts. I am on a Mac 10.9.1 with 16 gb ram - 2.93 GHZ intel Core i7 (quad with hyper threading). The platform will hang with the keyboard quit command. Anyone else having this issue?

simple solution...

load the previous backup from the log in screen.
Then in the platform, save your workspace (upper hand corner under "setup".

Wallah...then if any update changes things, you can simply load your saved workspace.

This is no different than working on a long project in excel and not saving your work.
I was always taught to save my work every 15 minutes.

Obviously you don't need to do it every 15 minutes, just once you make major changes
to your chart settings. It will always be there. If that fails on you ever, you can always
load the previous backup and save your workspace again.

I am using tradestation and thinkorswim together also another programs from another countries but even you can not compare level of technology with USA.
I like TOS I pay another program almost 100$ per month plus I pay for data so its around 200$ per month TOS is free even data free. No my point is not this I can pay more then this too for a program just I like graphics yes its not scrips or its not complicated studies or another just I feel more comfortable. You can laugh but same graphics is not showing same thing in different program to me.

And yes they are bad to handle problem. They memorize one way (Uninstal TOS instal java 7 evrything will be good) no same case its not going good even when they connect directly to computer they insist, this is thirt times I found solution myself so I can not stop to ask myself why support services are sitting there...

Everything seemed to have gone fine then when I came back into TOS it would not launch. I had to uninstall TOS and Java entirely from my Windows 8 machine and then re-install them both from scratch.

Unfortunately, the real problems will most likely go unnoticed by many traders until they've lost a chunk of capital. You see now half my scripts don't function correctly. It seems TOS messed up the count routines in their scripting language. Now when you go to count something, whether by method I wrote or using TOS's TotalSum function, it basically starts counting at a random number. I'm seeing it start with anywhere from 0 (as it should and used to) to 56. But mostly it's in the 1 to 5 range, which it just low enough to be tough to spot but enough to destroy a trade if you're relying on scripts.

So totally agree with you. We started to notice problems with charts and custom scripts about 4-5 months ago. And it was becoming worse by the day. After 2-3 recent updates half of the charts aren`t even showing anything and the rest take 20-30 seconds to load. I don`t even want to talk about scripts. They are in "loading" mode all day long. Cant even remember last day scripts worked the way the supposed to.

Thinkorswim IT people seem to have forgotten the old saying: IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT.

Guys, those of you who are having issues with Thinkorswim - do you have real funded accounts or just paper money accounts? I have both and both aint working.

I'm on a funded account. Been with them for years, since thinkorswim before TD.

Here's a link to their common troubleshooting for this last update:
https://tlc.thinkorswim.com/center/release/rel-01-18-2014-1.html

I kept having the problem in Windows:

I followed the instructions and deleted the "thinkorswim.vmoptions" folder and then set the max memory down to 1024 and the program is running alright. Any memory setting above that, like 1280, the program runs slower and might get a low memory red message on the top left.

Thanks for your reply! Do you have any issues with written scripts at all? I`m just thinking that that issue might be isolated to not funded accounts. Or does it affect everyone?

Everything is working fine for me. I use modified studies but nothing with complicated mathematical formulas, just basic stuff. I have purchased studies from thinkscripter and other places, some are pretty complicated, they all load fine too, have not had a problem where they do not load at all or the charts do not load at all. In the past I have read of specific studies breaking because of a change in a code but they were very specific changes. I'm just assuming, but I was always under the impression that the not funded and funded accounts use the same program, the only difference is the quote delay. They are both installed from the same file.

Running over 1024 memory was making the program slow for me, on mac and windows, since the Java 7 update. Running 1024 it's running normal for me, though I don't have many open windows so don't know what will happen memory wise while running many charts full of studies. Been getting some updates this week and another this morning, I imagine they are working on all of this. I always send them my error reports and email them at "support at thinkorswim.com" when issues arise. Have you sent emails to support? The emails I've sent are always answered 7 days a week and even on holidays. They usually start out with basic steps and if that doesn't solve it they save the info and a fix could come at some point in the future; who knows when but at least they acknowledge it and are polite. Some issues they solve for me quickly and others it takes a few builds before I see a fix, but I have not had any mission critical problems though.

Are you using a fast computer? I have a 6 year old pc and it works but lags a bit. On a i7 laptop I purchased last year I have zero performance issues.

Even now on the weekend with the markets closed and no streaming data coming through the charts with custom studies will not load?

I`m running about 1 year old Dell with i7 and 8gb ram. Windows 7 - no problems with this whatsoever. Today a lot of charts have Thursday's candle missing on daily chart and trading session starting at about 10:40am on 5 minutes chart. Scripts are loading perfectly after hours. I`ve hear from a number of guys with funded accounts that everything is running smoothly that's why I`m thinking that because our account is not funded at present - we are having these issues. Paper money accounts are just the same. Feels like TOS is blocking us on purpose And unfortunately our strategy depends on our scripts so we are in a big mess now
