OK my last bitch session (for now ) concerning if ToS is a good platform for trading futures

If you are wanting to use tick charts (a tick = one trade not to be confused with volume) you aren't getting true tick bars or the amount of time between bars.

I'm comparing Sierra Chart 133 tick bars to ToS 133 tick bars.

RV = remaining volume

Sierra bar opened 1650:41sec RV 54
ToS bar opened 1645 RV 22

Times are as accurate as I could get, nonetheless there's very little similarity between the two platforms - obvious in the candle body(s) themselves

As far as a DOM goes how about Jigsaw?

And for charts either Ninja or Sierra?

I'm running two monitors, two charts - one chart has a handful of scripts and the other several with one relatively heavy on calculations.

For now I'm using Infinity for the DOM/ broker.

Also for ToS limit the amount of scripts you have loaded even if you are not using them.

I forget the exact memory usage settings I have for ToS but IIRC it's somewhere in the middle.

Oh and do a Daley - collect garbage early and collect garbage often

PS as far as a broker goes, IMO use a broker that specializes in futs

I'm a tad biased towards Jigsaw personally - I'm not the best person to ask for sure!

Not good today for 30 minutes. I also have TS and other days ( not today though) had similar issues. I am looking to get another backup option. Any recommendations? I don't look at DOM etc. Just need a platform which does not freeze up when there is very high volatility. I have tried couple and each one seems to run into same issue from time to time when there is high volatility.

Thx

TOS lags especially at the market open (first 30 mins). It's not as bad as the lags I experience on OEC trader though. TOS is decent for non-scalping though (more than a few ticks in and out is ok)

I'm using Sierra Charts with Infinity futs/ DOM

10 round trips a month and SC is free

I will completely move to SC when I can 1) get three or four studies coded from ToS or 2) lean to not use them at all

I'm using a custom VSA_Lite study from over at thinkscripter and I really like it - works very well. Not only does the study use volume but also incorporates standard deviation moves.

Good stuff

WilleeMac, yes, I like Infinity's DOM (TransactAT). Much less problematic than the OEC and TOS as far as lags and delays in data at market open. Market open is prime trading time for me. Note: My TransactAT and OEC experience is only with the demo version whereas TOS is with the live account.

@WilleeMac,

It's been great! Four 100-pt moves on YM and I caught three of them. Sat out the noon move b/c it was lunchtime.

ToS has been working file for me. Sorry you're disappointed.

Geoff

I am new to this forum, but not new to Futures; been a serious trader for at least 10 years--traded Forex before that and stocks since I was a teenager. Perhaps I have missed the errorless platform over the years, but I have tried many (so many that are no longer in existence) and all of them had periodic, brief (and at times, costly) outages when the system was nonresponsive.

That said, confidence in my platform and broker is paramount and one would hope that TOS had ironed out their issues to avoid events like Feb 2. I believe the same thing happened for a few minutes in January.

It took me less than 2 minutes to close the trade by phone using their "Apex Trader" direct line. Bothers me a lot and I wish they would address is to everyone's satisfaction instead of resuming their "business as usual" posture as if nothing much happened.

I cal bull shit ...

... for those that say they have not had major problems with ToS

Why?

When several folks are bitching and moaning at the same time on a website that is dedicated to ToS ONLY and NOTHING else

Especially the head PooBah who has more ToS knowledge than all of us combined ...

You might just have something
