nsamuel: I don't know if this helps or not, but I too am new to the forum and have been spending a lot of time going through numerous OUTSTANDING threads. Sometimes I just scroll through a thread (some are quite long) and look at the bottom of each entry for any attachments. There you will find legends and code that has not been posted in the download area. This is equilivant to skimming through a book. Once you have finished your skimming then you should have a much better idea about where you want to devote your time and energy.

Just some thoughts...

Don, appreciate the suggestion, and its good idea, since there is so much to read in this forum. I started with this one, but since you seem to have found some other good ones, let me know the threads that you consider as best. Currently my only focus is vsa/vpa related topics, but maybe there are other things that are equally good and more modern thoughts.

I've loaded this indicator into my TOS platform and I've been studying the color coded volume bars and how their pattern matches patterns shown in Barry's video from emini.com for the TradeStation platform and also the videos for the TradeGuider platform. Although I'm examining stock and/or forex in these videos and looking for some simularities in patterns in the indicator for TOS and I don't see any. Yes, there are color bars, but in some locations that don't make sense.

The TOS version of the Better Volume Indicator from ThinkScripter which was originally developed by Barry Taylor at eMiniWatch for TradeStation should have color bars in the same locations on their charts when using the same stock symbol. I would like to ask anyone who has both TradeStation and ThinkOrSwim to load the attached indicator code files into these platforms and help show me how they look in both platforms. I would appreciate a reply with screen shot of the charts using the same stock ticker on a 1 minute 1 day chart from both platforms to check to see if the TOS translation is working correctly. Your assistance with this is appreciated, since I don't have the TradeStation platform to test with by myself.

I get error messages for the lines of code that define Value18 and Value20 in the TOS verson of the Better Volume Indicator that you posted. Any idea how to fix those? I've only done basic coding in TOS and can't spot the error.

Many thanks for your contribution!

I didn't develop the code and I don't get any errors in using it; so unfortunately I think the errors come from something else.

I don't understand the fascination with the better volume indicator. Everything it shows on the volume histogram is either obvious to the naked eye (low volume) or confusing. It makes the same fundamental mistake that most indicators make when dealing with volume - it averages data points. Just my opinion but to learn VSA you don't need the better volume indicator. It might also be telling that the creator of the indicator doesn't use it.

VPAv1_08.ts is the most recent and updated script

reattaching the script here. It's in this thread as well.

Hi Massive:

I am a beginner ToS user, and not especially knowledgable about TOS (.ts) script rules. I am trying to understand what of this file I should copy to my ToS thinkscript to get it to be useful/run. I first transferred it to notepad to review it, but found what appears to be some non-script text interdespersed throughout. Are there parts of the file I should not paste into the thinkscript field? Could you provide any guidance on transferring the file?

Many thanks for all the time you spent creating this. It must have accrued to a significant amount!

Kind Regards,
RideTheCurve

RidetheCurve,

All you need to do is save the file in the .ts format, on your desktop, documents, wherever you will be able to find it. Then while in the studies section of TOS, click on the imprt tab located near the bottom of the page, go to tne section where you saved the .ts file, click on the file, then click on the import tab located in the TOS section. No need to cut and paste. Hope this helps.

As a big fan and user of VSA I wana thank you guys for this great indicator - this version actually got me interested in thinkscript coz am a lil clued up on VSA concepts/signals and can easily pick up some of them without any sort of indicator.

one thing though, looking at the indicators posted on here, it looks like its missing some sort of a shakeout signal which is usually (according to my understanding of VSA) an opposite of an Up Thrust - aka Reverse Up Thrust.

nevertheless - thanks for sharing the indicator and knowledge of what's possible.
