Yes, I've installed them and all is working great.
I moved my computer into the extra bedroom closet, which is adjacent to my office. I made a small 1 inch hole in the wall to route all monitor cables, audio cable, network cable, usb cable. Then just purchased a usb hub for my desk.
Now my office is much, much cooler - and also completely silent.
Am very pleased with the end result. For the monitors/cards, I purchased (4) dvi -> displayport 3 meter cables from monoprice.com and they are working great.
When I made my post, the NVS 295 was still more expensive, @Big Mike got it for a fraction of the price. Both support high resolution monitors via DVI.
I think most noise is from the PSU fans instead of GPU fans. At least for my case. I bought one OCZ PSU with 135mm fans that suppose to be silent. That damn thing is more noisier than my old Dell PSU.
Mike, if I remember your first post correctly, you initially sought a video card with 4 ports, as opposed to what you ultimately purchased, two with two each. What was the reason you wanted one card with 4? If a machine has sufficient slots, it would seem beneficial to have the load shared over multiple cards, as compared to one, should there be a failure...
I also ask because I'm very near the purchase of my trading computer (HP Z200), and it comes with an NVS 295 (16 lane variety, in a PCIe x 16 slot). There are two other open slots, but x1 and x4. The NVS 295 also comes in a x1 too, but I wonder if it might be problematic in any way to be running monitors on both a x1 and x16. I read somewhere about issues experienced, but I can't make sense of it all. On another forum someone posted that the x1 slots have less power, possibly only 10 watts, and that might be a reason...
Otherwise the lanes don't mean much to us. Apparently each can handle 500 MB. And given what we do, the most we'd be taxing these would be something on the order of 100 KB/sec or less. Just some notes I took while reading tonight... One lane (x1) is more than adequate, so if a better deal is seen on the x1, it would be perfectly fine to go that route, in that respect.
If anyone has any input on running two NVS 295's, a x1 and a x16, please do share.
ebay. I ultimately learned these dongles can cause problems, and ended up buying a single cable dvi->displayport from monoprice.com instead of a dvi-dvi cable + dvi->displayport adapter. It's more reliable this way, before the monitor was losing connection to the video card sometimes.
