I'm looking for a fanless quad port video card. This is to replace my 2x9500GT's for my charting --- no games, no 3d performance needed. My current monitors are DVI (qty 4) and I've noticed some 4xdisplayport cards only support 2 dvi monitors at a time, which seems odd but that is what the review said.

I'd like displayport for future proofing. Would prefer a single card instead of two.

Recommendations?

Mike

The ATI Firepro 2460 meets what I need spec wise, but my 4th monitor is not an identical model to the other 3. I am not sure if it is close enough or what the deal is with the spec saying they have to be identical pairs...

ATI FirePro? 2460 Multi-View Professional Graphics

Quoting
Important: When using mini DisplayPort-to-singlelink DVI adapters, quad output is divided into two pairs (displays 1 and 2 and displays 3 and 4). The displays used in each pair must be identical (with the same manufacturer and model number) and must be identically configured (with the same resolution). However, the display pairs do not need to be identical to each other.

Otherwise might just get two fanless Fermi GT430's for $79/each, but downside is takes 4 slots total...

I would have to buy all new monitors, none of these are still made.

I found this just now, $45 from amazon:
Amazon.com: PNY nVidia GeForce 8400GS 512MB DDR2 DMS59 Low Profile PCI-Express Video Card VCG84DMS5R3SXPB: Electronics

It's old, but speed makes no difference here. Two of these for a total of $90 would give me passive quad port and take just two slots (like now), so I am leaning towards this. Maybe next year when I don't have a $9,000 hand surgery bill to deal with I will upgrade my system and get a better solution and monitors.

This is a cheap silent card:

Newegg.com - ASUS EAH5450 SILENT/DI/512MD2(LP) Radeon HD 5450 512MB 64-bit DDR2 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card

You can get HDMI to DVI cable from amazon. I think last time I ordered was about $3 each cable including shipping.

This looks like it takes 2 slots, right? A definite disadvantage if so, but price is right.

You can use two video outputs from each card. Yes, you need two PCIEx16 slots for four monitors.
