If I would buy a windows laptop I would go for a thinkpad (old IBM) they are really the best imho.

Funny how they keep their user crowd happy by still anno 2011 placing that rubber mouse ball in the middle of their keyboard. It's so 90's.

I like that customer driven spirit.

Dell's new "mobile workstations" look to be serious laptops. They come out in May:

Nice indeed. How easy and more importantly practical / desirable is it to use such a laptop as a desktop replacement at home, with multiple monitors (3+)?

I'm about to pull-the-trigger on an HP Z series workstation in the coming weeks, but since I do travel a fair amount, this does have appeal. I'd rather not make two purchases, especially if not necessary...

With the right docking station, you could totally do it. Have to find a docking station with dual monitor output.

I used to very involved in the technical support for ThinkPads, and obviously lots has changed, but Lenovo has tried to keep the business user community happy with the ThinkPad line, and the quality IMHO is still there. I purposefully seek out Lenovo ThinkPads because of their history and current product quality.

And that trackpoint/cat's tongue/rubber mouse ball in the middle of the keyboard AFAIK is the only remaining offering on any notebook line in the market today. Toshiba, Compaq and others had it, and they have dumped it, going to the inferior glidepad or whatever that big pad is. It negates the need for any (usually annoying small) external mouse, and adds to productivity. Once one learns to use the trackpoint properly (part of that is adjusting the sensitivity to be very sensitive), it is hard to go back to the glidepad. (Although Lenovo includes it on all their ThinkPads, I turn the glidepad off.)
