As someone who is in the industry, I recommend (as of right now) to get a Sandy Bridge system. The Core i7-2600k processor is extremely fast, energy efficient and considered cheap (price vs. performance vs. efficiency). The chipset had a minor setback upon launch, but it's all good now. If you are a system builder, look for the B3 revision code.

Benchmarks are just benchmarks, but if you're curious to see where the i7-2600k stands, check out CPU Benchmarks.

As for multi-monitor support, a video card I recommend is the AMD FirePro 2460. It's fanless (no noise), has excellent driver support and is not that expensive (about 200-250$ CDN). FYI, you will need Windows 7 64-bit to handle more than 3 monitors.

thank you for the information. But isn�t there a problem with the sandy bridge CPU�s and motherboards?
Another cuestion regarding the graphic card, using two of them is possible (to handle up to 8 monitors)?

The chipset for Sandy Bridge has been fixed and replacement motherboards are shipping to users. I just replaced my next door neighbors motherboard Saturday.

Thank you, I have two of this, the problem is, that this card is a little bit slow for moving images, even if you move the mouse over the desktop it is lagging a little bit. It works fine for displaying a chart, but if you use the monitor for trading it isn�t so good.

it isnt a card - its a usb - but nonetheless, try going to control panel then mouse and adjusting the speed of the mouse - it did the trick for me - hope it helps you

You're welcome. The problem was with the motherboard chipset, not the CPU (certain SATA ports were defective). Regardless, the problem has been resolved, and it should not be an issue when shopping for a system.

As far as I know, you can use as many as you want in a system as they are specifically made for trader workstations. You'll need 2+ PCI-Express 16x slots, so keep that in mind when building your own system. No need for SLI or CrossFire technologies.

As an alternative to the AMD FirePro 2460, because at the moment it isn�t available, you could use ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Graphics Cards - ASUS EAH6950 DCII/2DI4S/2GD5
which supports up to 6 monitors.

Probably 2460. Looks good, has passive cooling and four display ports and comes at a reasonable price.
