Perhaps. The issue only manifests itself once every other week or so. That makes it a PITA but not worth going to fewer screens to troubleshoot.

I am leaning towards this NOT being a driver issue, my best guess is it is a cable issue. I am pushing the limits on cabling, using 15 foot cables for all six monitors, and they are all crammed on top of each other along with some other noisy cables like USB and speaker cables, and go through a cut out in my wall to the extra bedroom adjacent to my office where I have my computer hardware in a closet. In other words, I think it might be a noise issue, with the "wake up" command simply not making it to the monitor. Odd enough, it seems to always happen to the same monitor, but if I move the cable around, it doesn't follow the cable -- but the monitor... is just a bit weird.

When this occurs have you tried disconnecting/reconnecting the cable to the affected monitor? I'm guessing it may have to do with the length of the cable vs noise. You may also check to see if the affected monitor has a different type/length of power cable. When it comes to length, the thicker the wire gauge the better.

Not sure of a real solution except consider shorter cables/thicker gauge cables or see if there are powered "amplifiers" available. Odd situation.

Yes I suspect noise as well, as I mentioned before. But all cables are identical and are high quality cables, and there is no noise during live operation of the panel, so it seems a bit odd that a wake up signal would be the only thing affected.

Anyway I am not too worried about it.

Huh? I said I didn't think it was a noise issue. Re-read.... I think the affected monitor is receiving less than ideal power or is more sensitive to the cable length. Or the graphics card is sensitive/affected by the cable length.

A potential "workaround" is to unplug then plug that monitors cable when the problem occurs to force everything to wake up.

That wreaks havoc, causing Windows to reposition all open windows and screw up all my chart workspaces, etc.

I am not looking for help, I was only making a comment.

Here's something I found that might be related - if you google "displayport pin 20 problem" there are several forum discussions about similar problems caused by bad Displayport cables. Apparently some cables wrongly connect a power pin between the monitor and video card which can interfere with power-on/sleep modes.

I can't remember what thread I last posted in. Apparently not this one.

But point is, a few weeks ago I replaced my (2) FirePro 2460's with (1) FirePro W600. I have six 24" monitors. I replaced the cards because I was experiencing some random issues with the FirePro 2460's, like random times monitors won't come back on after energy savings poweroff mode, or random screen artifacts.

Well, unfortunately the W600 exhibits identical issues.

It's my belief that the random screen artifacts are caused by poor drivers. It's essentially the same driver between the 2460 and W600, and testing in a 3x3 (6 monitor) config is probably very rarely done with no real quality assurance. In other words, since practically no one runs this config, they've not seen the issue and haven't had a chance to fix it. Bottom line: live with it.

As for the random times a monitor won't awake after being in sleep mode, well that's the most annoying. My PC never enters sleep mode but I do have W7 setup to power down the monitors after 30 minutes. Even with these six Dell U2412M LED's, relatively low power as they are, they put off a lot of heat -- so it's more about keeping my office cool than it is about electricity savings. The real kicker is that when one of them fails to wake up, it royally screws all my window locations for all open apps because Windows has to reconfigure itself to be minus 1 monitor. I scream every time this happens.

Anyway, this is what the kids would call "first world problems", in other words, just get over it.

I'll be listing my two FirePro 2460's on ebay soon probably.

Mike

Mike FWIW:

I have no such power on issues with dual FirePro 2450's. If you arent already, I would consider running windows drivers instead of AMD's drivers. Usually when I have issues with these cards (be it AMD or Nvidia) its running the OEM drivers instead of the Microsoft drivers. I called up AMD to ask, and they also recommended I run the windows driver unless I need the added utility of their Catalyst Control Center, which I do not. The 2460's you had have more RAM per card than the W600 does by itself... and combined its 4x as much. I'd probably prefer to run the dual 2640's, but YMMV. Is your artifacting when you move something from one screen to another and you are moving that windows 'above' a bunch of already open windows (such as ladders or charts)? If so, I get that too, but it goes away as soon as I click on the window that has the 'artifact' in it.

Also, one more note: Being that the W600 is a 6 monitor card, I severely doubt it is untested in a 6 monitor config, as that is what its designed for. I am with you when it comes to running the 4 monitor cards in dual config to run 6 or 8 monitors, its very hard to find info on that and the manufacturers dont have much feedback... but that W600 is a 6 monitor card from the get go, it must be fairly well tested before its released.

Certainly an interesting post above this one. Id buy new cables and delete and reinstall the windows drivers. Hopefully it solves the problems.

Looks good, I am looking for something similar. Did you buy new or used? and how do you like it?

Thank you.

Bought new, been running for a couple of months now...no issues at all.

Uh no.

2460 has 512MB ram.

W600 has 2GB of ram.

AMD FirePro? W600 Professional Graphics

The W600 is far, far more advanced than the 2460, which is why I am keeping it.
