I primarily use range charts with my setup and ZenFire for data, and only occasionally notice any delays.

I personally have 3 x Acer X233H monitors with 2 dual head Geforce 8600GTs. I am using an Intel E6850 overclocked with 8GB of memory, and then 3 hard drives, RAID 0. I also use an external backup drive, and have a decent APC UPS for any power issues that could arise.

It is older, but more than enough to handle NinjaTrader with 2-3 instruments, 10+ charts, each with 3-4 indicators. My average CPU load is <10%.

I have Verizon FiOS with 35Mbit up and down, and <30ms ping to Chicago. Wired network connnection, with wireless for backup (latency much higher).

Again, I think what I have is more than enough for what I am doing, and the latest octocore, or whatever, is major overkill unless you are doing a ton of backtesting/optimizing, and even then I am not sure how much your software will take advantage of the latest CPUs.

Just FYI, this system is more than enough to also run Dead Space 2 on high with 1920x1080x60Hz. Looks good!

Gary

I am truly envious... I have been trying to get FiOS for a long time, but doubt VzB will ever come this far... I would have to move closer to NY, like Greenwich, to get FiOS.. other than that, T1 is my best low-latency option around where I live.

Anyone wants Nvidia passively cooled GPUs. These are for sale. I have gone to the ATI camp.

See ad here.

when it's up and running do let us know how much noise it generates.
I still like the idea of passively cooled cards though.

thanks

Are these with passive cooling ?

I installed today an SSD and the Corsair AX1200 and the zalman 9900 max. Just to control noise, waiting for my video card.

This is from my fiber in my home -

It doesn't beat the dual hexacore or the fan of the workstation. Though the fans are PWM, Pulse Width Modulated, all three of them are 3.1A each or about 36W each. 120mm x 38mm and 90mm x 38mm. Minimum duty cycle is set at 40%. The GPU fan does not even live up to the case fans.

My wife knows that the computer has started or restarted because before the BIOS takes over, the fan generate so much noise like a jet taking off.

The noise of the GPU becomes relevant.
