hi,

do i have any advantages on WIN 7 vs WIN XP for a trading-PC ?

i have a medium-2core machine only used for trading.
i dont change hardware these days.
i dont need one of those new or fancy WIN 7 featrures at all.

but do i have any real + main advantages with using WIN 7 for my Ninja-trading -PC compared to XP
(staying the same hardware) ?
is it worth to change the OS ?

any opinions on this ?

thanks
max

You need to change in April 2014 latest, because Windows XP will be desupported then. That's another 3 years to go.

Otherwise I do not see any necessity to change now, as long as your trading PC does not suffer from high RAM usage or CPU load.

I am running a Dell Server with XP as well. I have looked around for a replacement, just in case. But as long as I can do whatever I need, I will not purchase a new system. And if there is no particular reason, I won't install Windows 7 now.

I always try to skip at least one or two generations of operating systems. Did I really miss out on Vista or Windows Me?

But you may run into trouble with hardware and software compatibility sooner or later. Also there will be no security updates, if hackers discover a new hole in your firewall to steal all your highly profitable strategies.

I used XP for a long long time, and was not going to switch. When I built a computer for my brother, he wanted 64-bit win7, so we tried it out. It has been nothing but rock solid stable. It worked so well, that I upgraded my system, and I have had a similar experience. I still use XP for virtual machines, but for a real system, my future systems will be win7 64-bit with at least 4GB of mem.

... Did I really miss out on Vista or Windows Me?

Yes, you did. You would have learned patience and developed resistance to frustration. Usefull qualities for a trader to have.

I spent my money on NinjaTrader, don't you think it was a better investment?
