Amen about sandboxie. I don't use portable apps, but from the testing I've done with Sandboxie it's amazing.

If your email clients, and browsers are sandboxed, you can click to your hearts content, and be safe. You can set sandboxes, to limit what can run in the sandbox, and what can access the internet from the sandbox. You can also block sandboxed programs from accessing your private data.

The only thing to be aware, should you download a virus, and should it run, your system will appear to be infected. BUT, difference is you can reboot, and then instead of an infected machine, you have a clean machine. Deleting the sandbox gets rid of all the nasty stuff.

just wanted to say thank you for bringing up that sandbox stuff. really like it.

could not believe it cost only $42 for a lifetime license. certainly worth it imho

I had been using Avira for virus protection and was happy with the results. But recently with Aira working I got hit with a virus whose first step was to disable Antivir and I couldn't get rid of it. I downloaded a free version of MalwareBytes , rebooted in safe mode and ran it. MalwareBytes killed the virus. I bought a licensed copy.

After reading this thread, I'm going to look at sandboxie as well.

I'm just a simple man trading a simple plan.

You should use Sandboxie, if you download something from BigMike's that was uploaded by TMFT. Will protect you against your own virus.

Couldn't help laughing at this, but it indeed true.

That Man, you never can use Avira as Standalone - Solution. My machine was hit by severe viruses years ago like your machine. I checked out, what's happend and was faced by something I couldn't believe first : You can use Avira either as professional version ( combination of virus and spy protection in one programm ) or you have to run SpyBot Search & Destroy parallel to the Avira free version, other- vice your machine will be hit by malware. These two programms are adjustable so, that they will not use to much resources of your machine, othervice there are two programms running parallel to your chart / trading programms, the machine has to manage them at the same time anyway.
Avira prof. othervice scanns all the data of your trading programms all time and you can n o t adjust it to stop that. So Avira prof. is not the programm recommended for use running parallel with chart / trading programms.
I personnally use Microsoft Security Essentials, covering Virus and Spy and I'm happy with it.
At last please have a look to the threat ' How protected is your computer ? ' next days, I will publish the latest test - results of all programms available along with a graphic showing the ranking of them all.
Regards
Klausi

Mike,

I just loaded Firefox 3.5. Is Malwarebytes compatable with any browser?

The newest version available is Firefox 4.0, several instances are improved on this version and it should be compatable with nearly any anti - malware programm. 4.0 is a lot faster compared to the 3.5 / 6 versions.
It is not necassary to uninstall 3.5 / 6 before installing 4.0, Mozilla automaticly upgrades your current version.
Regards
Klausi
