I want a new laptop that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
If you are on a reasonable budget, I would go for a Dell XPS 2020 model system. The XPS 13 9300 is the 2020 model. They are also releasing a XPS 15 and XPS 17 soon this year. You can get the XPS 13 9300 (2020 model) well equipped for about $1500. If 13" is too small however (it's not big) expect to add another $500 for the 15", and another $500 on top of that for the 17", when it debuts shortly this year.
Anything priced under that, I can't help sorry.
However, trading laptops can be very demanding depending on what you are doing. I use a gamer class laptop for example to be able to have high clock speeds across multiple cores with good cooling.
Depending on your overall setup, a valid alternative might be to go for remote server (lookup speedy trading servers here on FIO) and a cheaper laptop. Remote sessions are not demanding, plus their VPN gives you much more reliable connection to the exchange compared to home internet.
