I checked it.

Lease time expires 24 hours from when I logged on

Attachment 32085

So you are using DHCP. When you logon or re-start the computer, the computer goes to the router (the DHCP server) to get IP address. The lease time is set by your router. You can change it to make it longer in the router. But I would prefer to use static IP for a trading computer so that it won't lose connection due to IP address expiration.

Thanks for the input. I'll look at that, but I don't think the connection problem was due to expiration.

But then again... who knows..

It could be some other problem if NT lose connection more than once a day.

A friend of mine, ran a XP machine 24/7 (no re-boot for months). But one application (Ensign with Esignal) drops connection at exactly the same time every day. We found out it was the DHCP renewing IP address at that time everyday by looking at the Event Viewer. The problem is gone once he changed to use static IP address.

I use NTv7 and Zenfire, on a Vista (do shoot me... it came on the computer OK...)

Recently I get "Connection Lost " a lot . When it happens I always check and my internet connection is still working.

I don't run anything except NTv7 with one chart one DOM.

I'm trying to track down if it is something on my side or not.

Anyone else having ZenFire Connection issues?

For what it's worth... telling me that I'm the only one out of 30,000 alledged users that has this problem probably won't help me much.

Regards,
TMFT

As others have suggested and in my experience (comparing simultaneous feeds and broker connections, and after a few emails to NT support, one of which I still regret) this is likely due to an issue between your machine and the feed provider / broker rather than with NT.

Not sure about ZenFire but Interactive Brokers outages between 6 & 7 PM and 1-2 AM AST are like clockwork--reliable enough to build into a strategy. In the short time I've tested it IQFeed seems immune. Not sure about other unpredictable & occasionally sustained connectivity losses but so far they more or less correlate with ISP issues, usually unpublicized unless one inquires with the ISP, during which time some Internet services work and some don't.

Do you use DHCP? If you do, check the lease time. Is the lease time too short? When the lease expires, the computer will lose connection for a second. But that's enough to kill your NT connection.

I also have "connection lost" sometimes. Lease time is 03/22, so the error comes from somewhere else. But nothing cmpared with the usual NT freezers.

Any similar experiences with the Kinetick datafeed, maybe especially from European users?

Yes, I was on kinetick who has no own infrastructure, you just connect on the DTN/IQFeed servers.

Kinetick is just a salesforce for the DTN/IQFEed who works only on ninjatrader.

About the connection lost problem. I would note down the zenfire server ip and when you are disconnected enter the following command in your dos box :

tracert IPOFZENFIRESERVER

this will print out were your connection problem is on the way to the server.

The DHCP lease time who will renew will not disconnect you from the internet, I don't know were you are getting that information from but when your dhcp server sees that the time limit has expired he will just renew your lease without assigning a new ip adress or disconnecting you. Should your dhcp server give you a new ip adress the packets that didn't arrive will just be resend, there will be no connection lost because of a renewing of an IP.

On some broker connections in Ninjatrader you have the following setting, maybe you set it best to some time you are not trading :

Thanks for the info.

Unfortunately, regardless of the data feed I use, if Zenfire disconnects...I am dead in the water... no communication with the broker.

Thats why I was looking at alternatives. My broker is fine in all other regards, but it unnerves me to get a dropped connection while trading.

I use a dual broadband router with cable and DSl and redundant everything trying to get as secure a connection as possible. That seems to work , it has been a while since I lost internet connection.

Now, I'm trying to find any thing I can do to help on the broker connection side of things.

Hi ThatMan, ThisManFromNuremberg is speaking .. I dont have a global overview of what would be the best solution, but what you could do if it is important enough for you is to open an account with IAB.
IAB connects through its Trader Workstation to Zen Fire, and you can control your positions in that TWS. There will also not be a risk with Stops or limits for open positions that u enter in the DOM before you loose the connection, IB reports interim executions back to NT when it reconnects.
Likely you can' t use Zen Fire with IAB, Kinetick with CME fee waiver is about 70$ per month. I am sure that this data feed is not worse than Zen Fire.
