Please see above next to your questions. I have been using the same setup for months without fail.

As it seems to be a datafeed problem, I cannot help. Just a note on the CalculateOnBarClose setting:

Indicator Settings For CalculateOnBarClose

If you set this to false, you have the advantage that your indicator will be updated with every tick (maximum speed as allowed by refresh interval under chart settings), but the inconvenient that this will put your CPU under pressure.

If you take the pivots indicator, the values only change once per day. So if you set these to CalculateOnBarClose = false you will gain nothing. However, the Plot Override will be triggered with every incoming tick. This will create an unnecessarily high CPU load. Please set all pivots to CalculateOnBarClose = true. You will lose nothing and reduce CPU load.

The same is true for the OHL indicator. If the current bar breaches the high, it is more interesting to see where the prior high was located. The current high would be the bar high anyhow. Note that the OHL indicator also has a custom plot, which may slow down NinjaTrader. So again, you lose nothing but reduce CPU load, if you set it to CalculateOnBarClose = true.

The VWAP indicator shows the cumulated average price. The current bar will barely change its value, so you can also set this to CalcOnBarClose = true, once the opening period has elapsed.

I put most of my indicators to CalcOnBarClose = true, with the exception of volume indicators and oscillators, because for those the value of the developing period is more important.

The problem has been determined to be a Trading Technology server issue with a specific FCM. From what we can tell, only demo (sim) connections are impacted but not live accounts. We are following up directly with the FCM to inform them of this problem so they can resolve it.

This is not a NinjaTrader issue.

Update: The FCM has acknowledged the issue on the demo server and it will be resolved for the next trading session.

Update: The FCM has acknowledged the issue on the demo server and it will be resolved for the next trading session.

New Update: Some production (live trading servers) are also impacted. In some cases, this can be resolved by simply disconnecting and reconnecting. Reason is that with luck of the draw, you will be load balanced to a server that is not impacted. FCM is working on a resolution.

NT is simply &%$'§§%/

Hi

I am using NT since about 6 month now and had always problems.

I am now running 2 charts, 2 DOMS, 2 T&S lists. I can not switch the instrument as the NT freezes then. I made an update on SP1 and Beta3 and nothing works.
I will buy a new PC, 16 GB, AMD X6 1000, graphic card 1 GB. On my 4 core AMD /4 GB RAM this program never really worked. I wrote 100s of email to NT support, it did not work. Now i cannot even change an instrument. I am really tired of that %$$/%#**. Maybe this program will work with the new PC, if not I will buy the MS flight simulator and throw NT out of the window for all times.

Why does NT not mention that it requires extraordinary PC ressources? 1 GB as proposed is ridiculous.

eSignal provides me with streaming quotes for 200 instruments at the same time. I did not have 1 crash or freezer within 6 month. I get all the time crashes/ freezers with the Ninja Trader.

This program is not state of the art, it is shit! It is really bad

If it helps I was also at wit's end with NT7 until I moved it to a separate firewalled computer and turned everything else off on that computer; e.g., no other apps running, no virus scanning (turns out to have been the main culprit in my case), no autobackup, no software updates, etc.

While there may be more arcane issues with NT (see e.g., Does NinjaTrader drop ticks real-time ? - NinjaTrader Support Forum) at least performance now appears within spec.

It is certainly not a resource question. I am running NT 7 on a 3-year old machine (single processor, dual core) and a cheap laptop, which is running on Vista, and it is stable on both machines. I do not know what your setup looks like, what type of charts you have open, what lookback periods you use, what indicators or assemblies you have installed, but it is certainly not a resource question. Also I am running NT on top of 3 anti-virus programs installed (Avira AntiVir, MS Security Essentials and Spybot) with a workspace with 6 charts, and currently very few problems.

I had some strange experiences with multi-series charts, to which I added multi-series indicators, when there was little data in my database, but that happened, when I was trying out new things.

Your problem is somewhere else: Ninja runs perfectly on my two VPS's (1Gb ram each). One of them is running the 6 bots of the "battle of the bots", and 14 tick charts (all with 4 Gomi's CD indicators).
And with 1Gb, I also have enough room to run MCDT...
I also have Ninja on two VMware virtual machines, 1Gb and 1.5Gb, and no problems with them.
My dev machine has 8Gb, and Ninja can sometimes use more than 4Gb, when I'm loading a lot of data (let's say a tick chart with 365 days of historical data) or doing silly stuff, but it don't crash nor freeze.

I think I read it that you have NT 7.

If so, have you tried downloading some replay data and then running NT in Replay mode - does it still freeze and crash?

If it doesn't then your issue is probably your internet ISP and /or connection.

I had this problem a year ago and it took me months to solve. Like you I initially blamed NT, then ZenFire and I finally tracked it down to my ISP 'managing' the data on the plan I was on - so I switched plan.

Like the other posters, I have no issues with NT (or Zenfire), it does not crash or freeze and I am running three instruments with Gom CD and 3 DOM's on a laptop with worse specs than yours.

Thank you guys for your oppinions. Actually I am running 2 range charts with 3 days back of data in my above mentioned configuration, and i cannot switch the instrument.
My internet connection is 50 Mbit VDSL which as I think is the fastest non business connection available in Germany, SP is Deutsche Telekom.
I actually sometimes have FRC errors on my connection, but I have the same problems when I am in replay mode.

What I bacically mean is this: nearly everybody is having or has haved problems with this program. Advices like "do not run a 2nd workspace" or "set indicators on barclose=true" are ridiculous. Why shall this program not be able to run a 2nd workspace on my PC, or to claculate something in real time? I have 4 GB RAM and with the exception of Outlook, Antivir or Firefox nothing runs in the background. CPU usage is always lower than 30% even when the program freezes. and my ping time to CME.com is 190 ms right now. So something else coming with NT causes problems.

And here we are: the eSignal platform works in Realtime with 200 instruments and a numer of X charts. I did not have one freezer in 6 month. One can absolutely not compare these programs. The reason why i am running NT at all is that I am using 3rd party indicators and that I like the charts/the DOM. By the way, the 3rd party indicators work well on other peoples PC`s. There is something fundamentally wrong with this program, dont think about the details, workspaces, indicators true or false, but look at the total that these issues may come up at all.

Haha, what I understand is that this program is like it is and that I am free to use it or not. Nevertheless I am disappointed about that platform. Maybe it runs on my new PC.

I can assure you that "nearly everybody is having or has haved problems" with this program is far from the truth. We have near 30,000 active users and if this were true, providing support to this many troubled people would be economically impossible. I cannot comment on why you are having troubles but what I can offer is personal assistance in having one of my tech's work with you to isolate the problem. If you wish to take me up on my offer, send a note to our support team, reference this post and make it attention to "RayD" and I will have your case assigned first thing Monday morning.
