I have traded through NT7 on my laptop(Ninjatrader brokerage) while travelling in Malaysia (wifi environment) and Thailand (wifi environment) without problem. No VPS.
This time, I am travelling in mainland China and got trapped in Hubei Province (wifi environment). I noticed the data on my laptop NT7 just got delayed once the US market opens at 9:30 am EST, thus I could not trade from NT7 on my laptop directly. Luckily I have VPS set up with SpeedyTradingServices before travelling, but it shows difficulty to connect to the server sometimes, and sometimes it would disconnect after 10-20 mins. I have contacted ISP and SpeedyTradingServices, the situation does not improve with the help and advice.
Do you have this kind of problem while travelling? Do you have any idea on how to solve the problem? Kindly help to share your experience. Any advice/help is much appreciated in advance!
Best Regards,
Alex

I can only assume that your issues are caused by the "Great Firewall of China".
A quick google search revealed this:
"The Great Firewall of China (GFW) is the combination of legislative actions and technologies enforced by the People's Republic of China to regulate the Internet domestically. Its role in Internet censorship in China is to block access to selected foreign websites and to slow down cross-border internet traffic."
It is well-known that China restricts the internet access, so I am pretty sure that your issues have to do with it.

I'll set up something during the week-end so you'll be able to log on the VPS though a web browser. Not sure if will will help but worth a try.
The connection to the VPS though VPN I set up should have worked, we could schedule a TeamViewer session to debug this (but is TV going to work with the Great Firewall?).
We have users who are able to log on their VPS from their day job, going though proxies and firewalls (few tricks may be required), but this Chinese Great Firewall is by far the trickier to get rid of.
