Getting time for a computer upgrade. I think I have lost my mind as I am considering hanging a couple of Big Screen TV's on the wall to be used as monitors.

Looking for some guidance as to what needs to be considered. Has anyone else tried this? What TV brands work best? What video cards? Any websites that explain the pro's and con's of going this route?

Any input would be appreciated.

TJ

The resolution of most TV's is very close to high resolution Monitors. But about 3-5 times the cost of a 24" top of the line monitor.

I just looked at the new sony 3D capable TV, a 2D version would work, but I want to see @gomi's Ladder in 3D

Make sure the TV has a resolution of at least 1920x1080 (HD should do it).

The TV is just a bigger monitor, with bigger pixels, so you are not getting more info displayed, but maybe you can see it better since it is bigger.

One thing to account for is how far away are you sitting. You don't really want to sit right up close to a big TV.

The resolution counts more than the size.
I won't change my 26" 1920x1200 for 42" 1920x1080...

Unless you can not see it. I used to have a laptop that had a 17 inch display with 1920x1200. Awesome, but it was pretty hard to see things like text.

Now I use 30 inch with 2560x1600. On the verge of too big for my workspace, but once you get used to that resolution, it is hard to go back to anything else.

1920x1080 is the min. Everyone realized they could make things cheaper by going from 1200 down to 1080 and still support HD. That 120 vertical pixels can be pretty important when you are putting charts up though.

Just the knowledge that I am sitting in front of a TV screen would negatively impact my trading. Don't want all that stuff here.

My trading office is structured in a professional way. If I put a TV screen in there, it would feel like playing Nintendo or working in a nursery.

I am aware that this is a very personal view and that there will be other opinions.
