Any of you guys running Ubuntu with four monitors? If so, can you share your setup info (video cards) and Ubuntu version, and let me know if you have any issues with it.

I'm off linux from about 2 years due to trading platform I went back to Win, with regret, cos was annoying setup win soft under linux.
Anyway i tried a lot of distro and never really like ubuntu, due to gnome as first desktop choise.
I think there are really better distro, for example OpenSuse if u like more well know deskop distro, otherwise a very good desktop well builded on gentoo is Sabayon(Italian Distro ), or if u want made up a custom system the better is Arch, very fast but may be little unstable if u have not little skills of linux system and packages. Give a look here https://distrowatch.com/.
Anyway linux support multiple monitors as well, it depends on your graphic card, then do a serch and u will find surely an How To.

Luke.

Take your Pips, go out and Live.

I'm only interested in Ubuntu.

If anyone is successfully running Ubuntu on 4 monitors, please report your video config and any problems In particular, I was unable to do a 180 degree rotation on two of the four monitors which I needed for the way my monitors are mounted on my stand. I'm using 9500GT's.

I run Ubuntu 10.10 on my notebook, but Seven x64 on my primary desktop. Can't run Ubuntu on it yet due to problems with my multiple monitor configuration.

Ubuntu is fantastic.

Mike

Awesome, now I will have to download it
Hopefully you can run it on your main one soon.

How would you compare Win7 to Ubuntu?

And thanks for the help Mike.

Windows 7 is best OS released by Microsoft. So good job for that.

Ubuntu is the under dog, and a lot of people (myself included) like to root for the under dog sometimes. Ubuntu is making huge leaps and bounds every six months, Windows is very stagnant and bloated.

But basically, in the end, if you aren't a geek then Ubuntu is not for you. However, they do have a Netbook Remix. I've put that on my moms notebook. She knows nothing about computers, very computer illiterate. The NBR works well for her, because the interface is very dumbed down and simplified. Huge icons for "mail" and "internet". Works well for her, and runs much faster than Windows on her laptop.

Glad to hear 7 is the best so far for Windows, but it sounds like Ubuntu maybe creeping up on it.

And I would be in that boat Mike for rooting for the under-dog.
I'm good with computer's, just not great with programming like C++ and that kind of stuff, but do know some. And im sure I could learn it.

Thank you for the info Mike. I will give it a go tomorrow with dual-booting.

I gave Ubuntu a shot today, and it was pretty cool. I just don't understand how to work stuff on it.
Like I tried installing wine and couldn't, and I don't understand how to run Windows type programs on it either.

If you need to run Windows programs then most likely Ubuntu isn't for you. Most people just need web browser, media player, office documents, etc which are all easy in Ubuntu.

Wine is for advanced users.

If you have occasional needs you can also setup VirtualBox under Ubuntu and run a full-blown Windows install under Ubuntu simultaneously in a virtual machine.

I can see how Wine is for advanced users, but I think I can learn it, it will just take time. I like to learn that type of stuff. I really do like Ubuntu, so I will keep messing with stuff and figuring things out as I go.

If you know of a helpful guide for Wine that would be great.

Can't make any specific recommendations, but in general Google is your friend, try "install wine ubuntu" google search.
