Wasn't sure where to post this but thought I'd try here first. I'd like to record a trading chatroom (usually about 2 hours) each morning while I'm at work. I'm just a member of the room, not a moderator or the owner. Would need to record video and audio and I'll be able to start and stop it myself from my work office. Any suggestions on which program (free or low cost hopefully) might work best?
Thanks

I use a product called APowersoft Screen Recorder which is free at first and then requires a very modest sign up. It is very easy to use; I use it all the time!

I use the built in Windows Gaming recorder: Win + G. However, I'm not sure you can set the time for recording or control it remotely (unless you have remote access software, then you could). Sounds like one of the other free options will be better.

I use Camtasia (https://www.techsmith.com/video-editor.html). It's easy to use and allows for recording and editing. However there is a charge for it.

Make sure you have permission from the chat room owner and its participants to record them... there may be copyright issues you will need to consider.

For the remote control, you can also use Chrome Remote Desktop.

Hi, I use a small download program called "Snagit" by Techsmith to record webinars. I can't remember exactly but I think it costs something like $50-$60 dollars for a lifetime licence including all updates. I am not very tech savvy but find it very simple to use, and has worked faultlessly for me so far. The same company provide a screen capture program called "Jing" which can be downloaded for free and is also very simple to operate, for us non-tech say folk. Hope this is of some help.

I use FlashBack Express Recorder from Blueberry Software. Extremely easy to use, unlike some others recommended here.

Usually not copyright issues, but there may be third-party recording laws that require you to get permission from participants.

Camstudio also works well and I believe it's still free.

I was in a trading room for several years and used this to record:

https://www.deskshare.com/video-screen-capture.aspx

It allows for scheduled recordings and since the trading room ran London overnight session and into NY I was able to record 8-9 hours at pretty decent quality and the file size wasn't massive.

Scheduled recordings were great since I was asleep when London started (since I am on the west coast) and it was still recording when I woke up in the morning. All you need to do was choose the screen you wanted to record from. At the time I bought it, it was $99 US but it's a bit more now.

It was a good investment. It was also very easy to use.
