@John47 There is another option: think about buying local from a system builder, who has good reviews, who will provide support. If you buy from a retail option you will pay 2x to 3x markup. Some other options, I haven't any experience or relationship to these vendors but you might look at: pugetsystems.com, originpc.com, maingear.com, and xidax.com.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
obviously what you are thinking of buying will get the job done and power is nice . In any case here are some ideas:
1) consider your needs: how many monitors do you want and what resolution? the newest Intel core processors can drive multiple monitors with the on-board graphics, i.e. no need for extra graphics card. there are also passive cards that are cheap and do a good job for trading. there is a separate thread on those.
2) having 16 GB RAM and a SSD will make the biggest difference compared to the Processor for what you described as your needs. so you do not need to spend so much money if you do not want to.
as @SMCJB mentions, a dead HD is not fun. been there done that. create a boot disk using Windows Utility and invest in an USB drive (1 -2 TB) so you can use the Windows Backup utility to back up that SSD drive daily or weekly.
Thanks everyone for some very knowledgeable advice, much appreciated.
I'll have 4 monitors on this new machine. I have dell XPS laptop w/ a 2.6 i7 processor, 16mb RAM, and a SSD...I often hook up two additional monitors to this for a total of three. I have to say I'm pretty impressed with how this laptop performs and it's nearly 3 years old.
