I have been using it for a month or so, build 7137. I am using the 64bit version and use NinjaTrader with no issues. It is very similar to Vista, a little quicker, and some new visual features, but nothing major.

I had major issues with win 7. Adobe products, HP drivers, NT orders tracing.
Downgraded back to XP

Hmm. I run HP stuff and Adobe stuff, and obviously NT stuff, and I've got three of four different instances of Seven installed now, all with absolutely zero problems.

7600 build 16385 has been confirmed as RTM. You can find it "around". MSDN should have it any moment.

For me, Vista was nothing horrible mainly because I always use the "latest and greatest" hardware and software and do my homework prior to purchasing, to avoid compatibility issues. It wasn't slow or broken.

But Seven represents what Vista should have been. It's not a drastic change, there is no XP -> Vista here. It's more like Windows 3.1 vs Windows for Workgroups 3.11.

Still, under the hood there are plenty of changes, almost all for the better in my opinion. The performance increase is noticeable, and the user interface tweaks subtle but welcome. Except for one, the new taskbar icons (replacing the old quick launch) don't sit well with me. The first mod I did was to restore it back to the old style.

Other than that, I think Seven is rock solid. Unlike Vista when it was first released, Seven won't suffer from driver issues, mainly because 99% of Vista drivers are compatible with Seven, and vendors have had years to perfect them.

I do hope that Windows 8 will finally bring real change. The new file system is desperately needed, and we need to finally leave 32-bit apps behind. Seven is good enough to allow Microsoft to spend a few years on Windows 8 to get it right. I hope they do, but history tells us they won't.

Meanwhile... Linux (mainly Ubuntu) is making huge leaps and bounds, given a few more years it will be a real contender on the desktop I think.

I've been hearing that for years. It will only be viable to mass-scale consumers once desktop applications don't matter (doing everything in the cloud). With trading, I don't see that anytime soon, though, has anybody seen the tradeMonster trading platform? It's all done in Adobe Flash or AIR (can't remember), anyways, nothing to install but way better than a web-based trading website. Still, trying to duplicate NT in "the cloud" is a ways away, but really, why do we all need our own local copies of historical prices and market replay data? It'd be nice if there was a central repository for that stuff for subscribers to share instead of culling it together from multiple sources.

Hi,

I recently purchased a new build with Windows 7 64 bit OS in anticipation of NT7's arrival. I was unable to operate NT 6.5 (it was extremely slow and often crashed). As a work around I purchased VM Workstation, loaded Window 7 32 bit on it and have NT 6.5 operating without significant issues there. Ideally I would rather be working from the host computer on the 64 bit OS. I was wondering if anybody has NT 6.5 operating on Windows 7 64 bit OS and how I might get NT to operate on 64 bit? ( I recall reading in the forum some time ago that there was a "largefiles" issue (or something like that) with it. I have been trying to find the thread unsuccessfully)...

I'm hopeful that NT7 might be released soon. That should resolve the issue. For you guys who are working it to death and on Beta10, is anybody testing it on Windows 7 64 bit OS? How's it performing if they are? Is it getting close to being stable enough for live trading?

All the best...

There is free VM that comes with Windows 7 that includes a licensed version of XP SP3.

Windows Virtual PC: Home Page

VMWare Workstation is a better product IMHO, but the above is free.

I have NT 6.5 running on Win7 Pro 64-bit with no problems. What kind of problems are you having?

Hi Shodson,
NT was extremely slow to load data and crashed quite frequently. I sent the trace files to support but was informed Windows 7 is not supported (which is fair enough. I'd rather they concentrated development efforts on NT7). It's been a few months now. If you're not having problems I will have another attempt and then post details of the exact issues.

Cheers,
