If you have to buy a new one, i strongly suggest the Samsung EVO Pro (not the standard version !, the pro), the are not cheaper but they work fine and safe.
You could google it and find a lot of usefoul test and reviews

cheers

Thought I'd give a 2 week update.

Most of the time the hard drive would work fine, about 20% of the time I couldn't get my computer to load. I spent a couple of hours giving it the benefit of the doubt before I realized I was just going to be wasting more time on this.
I took advantage of Christmas sales and picked up an SSD, as per the recommendation of the FIO experts.

My computer is now running as if it was brand new, so I'm very happy about that!

Cheers.

We are almost 24 hours into the memtest, and it's still going on

It says " **Pass complete, no errors, press Esc to exit **" at the bottom, but it has said that I think since the test started.

Under testing it currently says 1528M of 4080M, so I'm assuming it's not even halfway done yet.

I'll have to check whether this sounds right or not, maybe it's just repeating the test over and over as under Pass it says "30" lol. I posted on the memtest forums to see whether this is right or not.

I'm replying to an old post so likely this was mentioned already, but pass 30 means it completed 30 passes already.

I personally would use something like Prime95 and IntelBurnTest for stability testing.

Mike

A bit late but I'm sure it'll be good reference should anybody else face a similar issue.

Cheers.
