"Everything Search" is a Windows app that indexes your files about a billion times better than the built-in Windows Search does. And it offers all kinds of sorting options and filter options.
It also supports network file system locations, the main reason I downloaded it -- as I routinely have to search network drives.
Anyway, I strongly recommend this software if you are a power user. It's freeware with a donate option.
I second what Mike says. Search Everything is good. The only drawback is that if you need to search some text within text files it doesn't allow you to do that. I use another free program for that called AstroGrep.
If you are a performance fanatic like me and use an alternative search tool like Everything consider also disabling Windows Search altogether and switching off the indexing of your hard drives.
