New Dell 13th Generation Poweredge Servers

Last month (Sep'14) Dell released their latest and greatest 13th generation Poweredge Servers which are built with the also newly released Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 v3 chip family.

As you can imagine new gen servers + new intel chip = $$$$$. The higher end chips alone are $2k-$4k/each.

Just curious if anybody had any experience, thoughts, comments, random ramblings on the subject of these or other high end servers?

@sam028 and @artemiso probably both do

My poor old dual Xeon E5-2620 v2 is feeling left out.

Yeah but from what I understand he tied up a lot of his wealth taking Dell private.

Michael Dell is probably the most famous alumni of my daughters high school. Either him or Roger Clemens.

Don't feel bad I'm looking to replace some old Dinosaur R610s with Dual Quad Core Xeon X5570s

Interesting that you mention the Xeon E5-2620 v2's as the other option would be to buy 12th generation R620s with dual high end E5-2600v2's (probably 2690/95 or 2699) which are literally half the price of the new R630s with high end chips (ie 2667/97/99)

Have to confess *not yet*. I'm told that DDR4 doesn't have a value proposition for our business at this stage and that we should wait a while more before we throw ourselves at the new Haswell-EPs. This probably applies to you guys as well? I'm probably hinting too much by saying that Intel processors aren't important determinants of our success in the space I'm in now.

It's good for now, but the rat race is tight. I'm in NYC now and talked to a few guys at JPM and it seems that they're planning to release something for their clients in Q1 '15 which defeats the purpose of our last few months of development effort to get ahead, so we're trying to get as much $ in between now and Q1.

I can't wait till DDR4 is cheap though.

You have a smart team, you guys will be fine...

Remember to enjoy what you've already accomplished. Goals are great but don't lose sight of the 'now'.
