Hi Kronie,

Scalable Link Interface (SLI) is a brand name for a multi-GPU technology developed by NVIDIA for linking two or more video cards together to produce a single output. SLI is an algorithm of parallel processing for computer graphics, meant to increase the processing power available for graphics.

video can only be connected to one card in a multi SLI configuration

It's just that a Z97 supports SLI because it supports more PCI-e configurations.I don't think 2x new cards( eg R9 290x x2, or a GTX970 x2) would run correctly* on a H97 board( especially with with 4 x monitors @ 1440p), it wouldn't support the bandwidth, or it would atleast be restricted- PCI-e lanes are limited on H97 boards. H97's aren't designed for multiple cards setups the same way as the z97's. Call a MB manufacturer to confirm.

@alligator

you would drop your lower jaw, after talking with Adam over at EZ Trading Computer, over their chat now function of their webpage, regarding how much is wrong with these conclusions

we all make them, namely, the big box purchase of an onsale computer desktop, only to be swamped and out of the water when there is a volume surge, or a data explosion, which occurs daily at the 9:30 EST open. computer and trading system freezes,

you owe it to yourself to see what's wrong with that equation...

after all, if our systems go down, then what's the point in all the charts, indicators, trader training and such, if the machine can keep up

@kronie,

I am not sure what conclusions we are talking about and I don't see your equation. But I can assure you that both the $699 (cost more to build the specs) boxed purchase and the $2500 computer will work just fine, and I have them both plus a couple of Windows XP computers used for the past 5-10 years and god knows what else I used in the past 37 years.

You can take the $699 computer and add an ice cube dispenser, a 500gig SSD, etc. and still save many $$$$$ over EZ TC. The question should be does the $2500 computer make you more money as a retail trader? The truth is that most of the fancy designs are overkill for average trader making 10-20 trades a day. One can trade on an average laptop and make more than a living, as many of successful traders are doing.

EZ TC is in the biz of selling computers and use the same components. Don't listen to hype, trading on Ninja is not like landing a robot on an asteroid. Just ask @GaryD who built his computer for about $700 and works just fine.

Cheers!

@kickmic,

thanks, I kinda knew that,

what I was saying was one can achieve multiple gpu's without using either dual card link methods, whether SLI, or, hmmm, can't remember off hand..

one can purchase a 1GB $29.99 DVI card and or two or three and control 2 monitors per card, and have them all acknowledge each other, and do an "multiple displays - extend across function", under Windows 7 or 8

one need not purchase those upper end, high cost gpu cards anymore....

@alligator

see yuh later, alligator,

ok, I couldn't resist doing that.

I was agreeing with you that we as traders take the least resistance path, with the big box desktop sales, and it sure does seem cost effective at $699 as $300 off for all that, until you actually need the performance that Ninja or other similar trading platforms demand. Until you actually need the speed increase that an SSD will do just about any system / any processor, over any HDD or Hybrid HDD system. Until you actually have a professional trading builder explain all the details why.... those big box machines are good for letter writing and not trading....

that's all....

oh, yeah, I talked with @Gary,
he sure did an awesome feat at $700... how's he doing anyways?

however, DVI cannot run at 2560 x 1440P and above - the resolution of the 27" and larger screens being considered

OK, we will let all those real traders that until yesterday (the dawn of custom computer craze) were actually making money with their big box machines be the judge and tell how much more money they are making with their new setups from professional computer builders.

btw. do yourself a favor and compare the $699 list of specs to what they would cost you from EZTC or any custom computer builder. You can easily add a supper fast SSD and all the enhancement prescription parts and still have enough money left for two contact margin requirements.

And yes, as a refresh, here is what GaryD said:

I am extremely happy with my computer build. It has never crashed, it does anything I can imagine with no lag, it is very quiet, starts up in seconds...

You do not need any fancy cooling system for a trading computer. It looks cool, but not necessary.

I run two installs of Sierra Chart, as many as 20 chart per install, and as many as 25 indicators per chart, and can still Skype, email, watch YouTube, etc... and rarely hit 4GB of memory.

I probably put in a few months of thought planning and research, and still screwed up my first attempt. But ultimately I got a machine with specs that price out to 3 or 4 times as much if bought through trading computer websites. Did I put in the savings in my own time, of course I did. But, I also do not trade because it is the easiest way to make money.

Being that Windows 7 will Not be Supported after January 2015.....would it be best to buy Windows 8 version for my Trading workstation?
Not sure what version of Windows 8 to buy.....i had always favored Windows 7 Pro 64 bit with XP Mode for older programs.
What would be best considering Trading Workstation with 16 GB of Memory, and Compatibility with Older Programs?

I know this is not the best card out there, but i think it will be what i use in my new build....i just receive email from
Tech that the Firepro W4100 will run 4x1 or 4 Monitors in Portrait Mode by downloading the latest driver which they sent me the link.
This Card Supports High Resolution up to 2560x1600 per Display for a Total 4 Displays $ 150

That's the end of mainstream support. Extended support will be until 2020. This means continued security fixes for 5+ years. Only recently have many people stopped using their faithful XP boxes due to the end of extended support, and some still use it now. Bottom line is, if you like Win7, you'll be able to use it easily for another 5 years, hopefully long enough for Microsoft to release something post Win8.

good one - would never have considered it as an option here in Australia as local retail price is between $400 and $500!
Note it has mini displayport outputs so factor in cost of adaptors?

nice they updated the driver to now do portrait
