I'd stick with a Z97 board, the only reason you would buy an h97 would be to save on price. Z97 is the top spec board, which generally has more features, supports overclocking & SLI/Crossfire. For example with a z97 board you could run 2 GTX660's in SLI and run 8 monitors, which you couldn't do with an h97.

.

No, SLI/Crossfire is for combining two cards for additional performance video output from just a single card
It has nothing to do with outputting video from several cards. It does not take a Z97 board to run video from several video cards

Monitors - look for displayport inputs, IPS, and stands that will provide 90 degree rotation - no way you are going to run 4 x 27" monitors in a single row - most likely you will get the best configuration running those massive beats in portrait mode

Z97 up to you - i could be wrong but it appeared you were trying to save $$ here and there and the current config was skewed - so bringing back the motherboard freed up some dollars

I would try to get a card with as many displayport outputs as you can. This is why I currently recommend the Gigabyte 970 which has 3 displayport and 1 HDMI to run four monitors. Also, you can be sure this model will run quietly. I simply cant imagine it ever being necessary you requiring more than 4 x 27" monitors. And if you did, its only going to be a stage when your trading could justify simply going for an entire upgrade.

Amazon.com: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 Overclocked 4GB GDDR5 PCiE Video Graphics Card GV-N970WF3OC-4GD: Electronics

GIGABYTE - Graphics Card - NVIDIA - PCI Express Solution - GeForce 900 Series - GV-N970G1 GAMING-4GD (rev. 1.0/1.1)

I would contact Gigabyte and confirm that card can run 4 monitors at the higher resolution of the monitors simultaneously. While my card can run 6 monitors, it can only do so at a maximum of 1920x1200 (as an example)

The difference in price between a H97 & z97 can be nothing more than $20-30.

The GTX970 you were recommended is a top range gaming card which is about $200 more expensive than a card that would adequately run 4x monitors to be used with a trading platform @ 1080p- the only reason you would buy a top range card would be if you were a gamer who wanted high frame rates across all monitors eg 60FPS while playing the new call of duty.

So if you wanted to free up some dollars then buying a lower end/ mid range card would be the best idea. As mentioned above, any common brand( Geforce, Asus, msi etc) from the Nvidia GTX range, that is 660 and above should run 4x monitors. You won't notice any difference between a low/mid range card and a high end card, unless you're gaming.

Nice video card. I have to say, Nvidia chips have serious problem with WHQL Drivers. My previous G card was asus gtx 580 and When I did install new drivers, G card stop working forever. I did try many option how to fix it but finally I found forum where many people had same problem. That experience cost me 520 euros.I am never had problem in my life with AMD radeon chips. I do have currently 3 monitors and I can extend to 6 monitors. Also temperature is much lower than at Nvidia. Currently I have on two fans and temp is 34-40 degrese.

I hope this will help you

Jake

@kickmic....is this one able to Run 4 Monitors @ 2560x1440 ?...this is the one you posted earlier in the thread with 4 Display ports.
It is $ 347 @Amazon
Graphics Cards - R9280X-DC2-3GD5-V2 - ASUS
Is there any other choices that will run 4 Monitors at that Resolution ?...that is at the top of my budget at that price,
but i am not focused on that if i can get this system together, and working with 4 Monitors.
Otherwise i might have to rethink screen size resolution choices.
Like you said earlier this is Max amount of screen real estate one can monitor ,or it may be too much.....
But i rather have more, as i can always focus on what i want to over couple monitors, and use others for anything that comes to mind like position trades....other markets i can check on for set ups.

i know it cant do 6 as I have that card (7970 is same thing)
best to drop a line to both ASUS and Gigabyte to confirm as there is very little about this around the place as its not common to run so many monitors at this resolution.
worth having a good think about just how much screen res you need - i run 4 x 1920 x 1200 in portrait - if the monitors were larger i would struggle to look all the way to the sides comfortably, or all the way to the top comfortably

i have 4800W pixels by 1920h pixels which looks like this

its slightly too high, but fine width wise - couldn't go larger

4 x 27 in portrait is not recommended, try 2 x 30" for total pixels of 5120W x 1600H, or 2 x 27" for 5120W x 1440H...

3 x 27 and you'd have to setup like below

looks pretty cool! 4 x 27 2K monitors (2560 x 1440)... but the user complains about having to move his head up, down, left and right

I sit low and have my legs on a stool hence why I mentioned my setup is a little too high - but, when I sit up, its, actually fine.
