Teenagers can beat me at basketball too.

While I went for the xeon due to cpu per $ and the patriot for a similar reason, I also went for asus and seasonic, both were more expensive than my other options. I was actually trying to use all high-end components, (except for the case, that did not seem to matter that much to me) and get a good overall value.

I did find other systems on the pasmark site that built similarly. I'll know in the next few days, the replacement board is coming in a few hours.

Gary, I have seen people get burned on crappy power supplies hence why I stick to seasonic (as you have done). However you do have a combination of components which are unknown as far as how they interact with each other to produce an outcome which meets you needs, hence the comment "uncharted" territory.
Form my experience, with electronics (pro AV, home automation and computers) nothing is ever a certainty until proven. .. unfortunately!

Did you try the system just with one monitor, on each output - and then try the same sequence using your other monitors?

I have no experience with patriot so cant comment.

If I reinstall the OS, is it not wise to at least save all the files in the download folder The downloads from sites like Asus and Intel would possibly be corrupt?

I guess the best I could do is write down a list of the updates that I was able to find?

No, do not save anything. Anything on the bad system should be considered bad.

Mike

I had a long silloqui but some how the Win7x64 session went into BSOD and wiped out all my comments, file uploads, experiences and such.

sure, thousands upon thousands of machines are built all the time, but when you're doing it and crossing over those burning sands, its not material how many have gone before, just that your feets are burning as you're evolving.

thanks for the guide posts from AussieLand, they were very, very insightful and helpful.

but the expression still holds sway, one has to do for themselves and then they have expereience

I agree with your last comment. I also feel strongly about how straight forward it is to assemble a PC - its like lego. You follow a simple video guide as posted earlier.
Component choice doesn't get any easier than duplicating those items that are known to be working together to produce the outcome you are after. I don't care about how good all the other components are in a PC, if you choose to use a OCZ SSD, then your system will suffer problems, and there are plenty of other examples.

You have Windows 7 bluescreens? I have never had a BSOD with Windows 7, and that's with both AMD and Intel, across a number of different machines (I'm a compulsive upgrader). Of course I have had parts fail - -hard drives, memory and one graphics card. But these type of failures are sorted in the time it takes to buy a new part, pull out the old, and chuck in the new. And everytime you overcome a failure, you problem solving skills improve. I have never been without an operational trading PC for more than several hours.

well try things incrementally. - don't worry about cable management etc until you have a working system - then go and cable tie stuff

I've read many similar experiences as Gary's in the reviews on the Asus mobo's...

Gary, what type of connectors are you using to the screens? Do these newer chipsets/mobos with 3 screen multi monitor support through IGP actually work well in real use, without issues, flickering, lag, etc?

Did you enjoy installing the HR02?
I run two of the same model SSD
assuming you have had zero issues with your build?
could pick up a pre-loved sandybridge K series CPU if you want to do a little overclocking, given you have the cooler

I Didn't build it myself. I speced it up and then went into the shanghai tech market and watched the guys build it.

I have not had any issues at all with it, it's quiet and cool...and fast.

Don't really need to overclock, just wanted something to last a few years and handle ninjatrader with a dozen charts open!

Thanks kickmic!
