I said it earlier, and with a rig as big as that, you're the big dog now.

BigMike used to be the big dog, not any more.

hey, that's the third try, and perhaps my half military / half wall street, American-ized term of respect doesn't translate...

but to those who know.....

you're the big dog now!

okay, thanks for the sentiment, but really I'm just overly anal about having a neat, organized and silent setup. Speaking of anal, I even changed the opamps in my dedicated sound card... and look at my cable management!!!

in that case check out the recommendation by medias which was a good one - the Vanguard B85 - basically a non-overclocking/few less features version of the Gryphon - ie same TUF build design. About $50 difference between the two boards for o'clocking, more SATA6 and USB3 ports, higher performance audio, and more PCIe 16 (dual 8) lanes... Gryphon has 5 yr wty, Vanguard only 3. Its a shame ASUS don't do an H87 TUF series board

As far as monitors go, stick to IPS, either what I listed previously, or even the Dell 27" IPS 2560 x 1440. For intraday trading, I actually use 3 x 24" monitors in portrait mode for one chart, and then the fourth is just for a 30M of the same instrument. For my stock trading slower time frame stuff, I'll run 8 charts across 4 monitors, with broker platform and /or other windows to come to the front... but for the small time frame stuff - that massive chart is great as you see the forest for the trees and avoid being myopic.

- Did a quick search for the Vangaurd B85 and I could only find it on Amazon for $180+$25 shipping, so the gryphon is probably going to be the way I go, but I'll do a more exhaustive search before I order.

- After looking more closely at the video card, per your suggestion, I realized that card did support 4 monitors but one of the connectors is an old d-sub vga, so I'm now on the (Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 OC 2GB GDDR5 PCI-Express 3.0 DVI-I/DVI-D/HDMI/Displayport SLI Ready Graphics Card GV-N660OC-2GD).

- Newegg has the (G.SKILL Ares Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866) on sale right now for $143.99 with promo code: EMCPGPF33

Your setup is awesome!

@CW273

hold the phone

see my earlier posts... Micro Center - Computers, Electronics, Computer Parts, Networking, Gaming, Software, and more! --- beats all those hack dealers (newegg, tigerdirect, amazon and its many personalities of sub-vendors, bestbuy and all the others too....)

check out their dual dvi $29.99 ($27.99 at the counter at checkout / sale) MSI GeForce 210 video card, just get 2 and now you have seemless 4 monitor support

in the US, the ASUS B85 doesn't exactly go by that same name I noticed he quoted...

I simply will not get ripped off from those other online vendors again (newegg, tiger..., etc....)

or if you don't care to build, then buy....

thats like the price of the Gryphon!! even in Australia the Vanguard is only $129... it might not be imported to US? If its more than $130 in US, def. go the Gryphon

thats old generation now also - and displayport can be a pain unless you have monitors with displayport. Check the Gigabyte 750ti which has 2 x HDMI and 2 x DVI, and 2GB memory, and runs super cool and efficiently

good deal! def. for the Gryphon as Vanguard only can use 1600 - the Gryphon IS a better board, if you dont mind paying for CPU overclocking features that you wont use

kickmic- That graphics card looks great, but now I have more research to do to see if I want a displayport or not . I like that case also but I like the fractal define mini a little better.

kronie- I saw your previous post about micro center and looked at their website then and I double checked again and their prices are higher on all the components I listed.

Best single source I have found for learning about building a multi-monitor system. I have tried so many search phrases, none of which got me exactly what I was looking for. So, my washing machine broke and I got on YouTube to find out how to fix it, and this popped up... lol. Finally.

AMD3+ boards are several years old now with no plans to update as AMD will focus on its APU's.

The FX6300 is a hard CPU to beat for the price, however I'd be inclined to go for an Intel i3 current socket and corresponding Intel B85 series motherboard which you can do for the same $$.

uses less power, produces less heat, the included heatsink fans are quieter than AMD's. Performance wise, around about the same, but you get the latest tech on the 1150 chipset board without having to revert to external drivers.

OCZ PSU's no longer have manufacturer warranty as OCZ went bust. Also, 750W is way too much power which means your system runs less efficiently - those GPU's you selected don't draw much power - Go for an Antec 520W or similar

the single greatest performance boost you can get in a system is from an SSD - a 60GB will fit Windows and the programs you want to run. All your data can then be kept on your conventional HDD.
