That is way more than I need. Keep in mind, this is a trade box only. I ma build another that is a redundant box / personal amusement park, but right now my sony is on borrowed time. Capacitor swelling on 3 capacitors, and the most the mobo will handle is 2GB ram. TWO. Maxxed Out.
But, that is what I trade on every single day, and it never fails, never lags, never crashes. Because of that, I keep looking at the i7 type parts and wondering why all the hype for a trading box? I know I want it to have a long life, and that is the reason to buy the newer stuff, but without gaming, video editing, etc, I do not see the need for a $3000 box. Unless I wanted to push 8-12-16+ monitors, or, push 4-6 and watch YouTube on the same screen as I video chat. But running anything other than a trade platform increases the chances that something will get buggy, or crash, or require a restart, or whatever. That is the reason I separate the two computers.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
If there was a way to completely separate trading from email, internet, skype, anything else from the trade side, I would go that way and buy a $2k box. But from what I have been told, no bersion of partitioning or separate hard drives will allow the operating system to run two times out of the same machine. Thus, no true separation for what I am looking for. If I have to restart a machine for whatever reason, let it be the one I watch porn on, not the one I trade with.
If I went with the Gryphon, do you know the easiest way to drive 6 monitors?
I somewhat understand positive pressure design from being a real estate developer. Mold is a huge potential lawsuit, and positive pressure in the AC system is believed to help mitigate that risk. That was not something I knew was an option, but you got my attention.
I realize the case I have is $ selected only (and I like the minimalist look), and I am not trying to cheap out on any of the components. I am just trying to learn what is needed, and what is hype/cool.
A great computer does not make a great trader, despite what I see in a lot of trade computer advertising.
thanks for bringing that out, I didn't know the case makers addressed that annoying dust issue and the need for cleaning out the magnetic affect all these components inside the "box" has around anyones' desk, namely a dust attracter.
I moved over to water cooling solely to avoid that issue around the cpu fan being the largest attractant inside the box. Funny how the gpu's never attract that much dust...

for four monitors, if starting off this way, run a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 750 Ti OC 2GB, with 2GB memory being adequate. If 6 monitors is down the track, most likely something new will be out so just upgrade card.
So, showing how little I know about this maybe, I run 2 monitors now off a 10 year old dual head video card, and a 3rd from a USB to HDMI (but will adapt to DVI or VGA) made by Sabrent (roughly $70). When I looked that card up online, it was around $170. Why not run (2) $40 +/- (or even less) cards to do the same thing? I understand for games, graphics, movies maybe, but trading graphics are not much more intense that the original pong video game.
Is it just that this is the way things are going? Is it that I will have less problems, use less resources? Why not buy two $19.99 cards? Why not use an i7 to push three screens and have the 4th via USB?
This is just to discuss the point, not that I am balking at the price tag. Nor criticizing your recommendations. What started as a simple question on the futures.io (formerly BMT) front page has gotten quite a ride!
