I use Macrium Reflect, it will make an image without trouble and can do a bare metal restore.

I'm reading more on W8 tuning.

One thing that would help is getting Chrome to work properly with metro. Using IE is a crime.

I am using the Canary build of Chrome but it still isn't working in metro mode.

I guess this is why

Workaround for HiDPI Screens

Chrome’s new Windows 8 mode will*not work on laptops or desktops with high-resolution displays. Support is planned for the future, so keep an eye out.

Yuk, I hate windows all together!

I am sure you don't need IT advises Big Mike, you are way ahead!
But can't your laptop take a Linux distribution as the main OS by any chance?

I didn't do any check on your hardware and drivers availability, but that's the first thing I would do if I were to buy this laptop today
It always amazes me how faster a computer operates when switched to Linux...
I use virtualbox to launch a virtual machine with windows 7 on it; but many advanced virtualisation packages are available on Linux. You won't have to worry about performance either with the processor, RAM and HD I see listed for UX301LA.

Just an idea
Cheers

Be careful doing this.

You can make a bootable flash drive but sometimes that is not an exact copy.
The best bet is to make a Ghost image of the drive if you are going to install Windows 7 on the same partition.

Some machines come with a 'special' partition that will not boot windows 8 unless it is running on that selection.
And most vendors do not give you actual CD's to re-install Windows 8.
Unified Extensible Firmware Interface - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Using this UEFI seems to be to prevent pirating the OS.
(Even though they tell you it is used because it makes the OS work better)

I did not like Windows 8 at first.
I started using the 'Desktop' part of the system.
Now it looks and feels close to Windows 7.
I installed the Classic Shell Start Menu to give me the old Start Menu.

At first I opted to "Dual Boot" Windows 7 and Windows 8 on different partitions.
After doing it I got used to Windows 8 and never boot into Windows 7.
Unless I have a program installed on 7 that was not upgraded to 8.

Was your machine delivered as a dual boot machine? ... or did you partition it after the case?

@Fadi,

Besides, I hardly doubt that desktop variants of Linux are going to behave any better on a 2560x1440 touch panel. I would imagine their scaling issues are far worse than Windows 8.

That said, the primary reason I am not running Debian on my primary workstation (not notebook) today is because I could not get the six monitor desktop to seamlessly work. But, I am going to sell my (6) Dell U2412M's (24" 1920x1200) and replace them with (3) 30" LED (2560x1600) prior to moving to Ecuador. So there is an excellent chance that it would work in that config. I may toy with it later this year after things settle down after the move.

But the notebook is not a good candidate for such a test project. I need a work mule that can replace my primary workstation for the next several months.

Dude, you are a computer configuring animal !!

When you were a suit in Corporate America, did your gig involve computer tech? ... or did all
this knowledge spin off your entry into the trading world?

I am self-taught, I've been a "computer geek" since the age of 8 or so. I was a good programmer in Pascal, Basic, C and some Assembly by the age of 13. I ran one of the largest BBS's in the nation by age 15. Phone bills were in the thousands per month, but revenue from the site was still higher.

My "corporate job" from the age of 21 to 29 or so was primarily as a VP at a data storage company. That role was heavily technology focused. For reference, I am 36 now.

I'm a high school drop out and have no formal degrees. Wouldn't have it any other way...
