I don't currently use windows so haven't been following the win10 news much so forgive me if this question is common knowledge. Can you upgrade from an existing windows 7 installation to 10, and then create a windows 10 installation ISO?

The reason I ask is that if im not mistaken, windows 10 is only being offered as a free upgrade for 6 months (or something). I do have my original copy of windows 7, however it is simply not installed since I run Linux on my machines. So what I was wondering is, can I install windows 7, upgrade to windows 10 and create a windows 10 installation ISO. Then uninstall windows 10 so that I have the ISO to use at a later date if I want to.

Thanks

You need to upgrade first your Windows 7 to Windows 10 and then you can make an ISO DVD using Windows Media Creation Tool.

The Windows Media Creation Tool will download and install the .ISO file onto a DVD or Thumb drive...and make them bootable.
I think you have 1 year to upgrade from win7 to win 10 for free... You can download the win10 .ISO file directly from Microsoft now .. I did it that way yesterday, since my download hadn't reached my PC yet.... it seems to work well , even without a "clean install"....

Anyone already using Windows 10, anything "critical" to report? How are the charting platforms running? Multi-monitor setups? Everything running smoothly or there are still some glitches to work through?

Duh!! Dumb me!! I skimmed through the first pages then jumped to the last and missed "the meat" in between...

I was a bit afraid of it upgrading (currently running win 8.1), but now I'm more encouraged to give it a try.

I had a lot of problems by installing 2 separate systems (work and private) on 1 HDD. I had to do it 3 times before I could say that it works fine.
The biggest problem were the Boot manager. After that everything worked great. What I liked is that I didn't needed to install every single hardware driver by myself, Windows 10 did all by it self .
This helped all lot for setting up 5 monitor's with 2 graphic cards

Until now best Windows ever.

The default settings for Windows Update appear to use P2P to distribute updates. I switched that off as it's already bad enough that the Home edition doesn't allow you to schedule updates for when you're not trading.

All is working fine on my backup computer, an update installation to activate followed by a clean installation. But on my main computer, it lost the activation after the clean installation. So I'm going back to Windows 7, not sure if I'll try again. I like W10 better than W8.1, but I was also happy with W7.
