Windows 10 RTM candidate build 10176 has been compiled -- sign off imminent

Windows 10 build 10176 looks to be the RTM.

I am running build 10162. I am extremely impressed with Windows 10, and recommend everyone upgrade from Windows 7. Certainly from Windows 8. If you are running Windows XP, you need to donate your hardware to a museum and buy a new system, and install Windows 10.

Microsoft has been on fire of late with the new CEO. This new idea of "Windows 10" being the last Windows, and moving to Windows as a Service (WaaS) is a great idea, and makes perfect sense.

I moved to the RTM build 10240 today, everything working great and the 'evaluation copy' watermark gone now.

Thanks man, nobody else I know has been using it.

Is it lighter than 7 on resources? I know what the literature says, but want to see your take on it.

I am very heartened by this, and had already signed up for the free upgrade a few weeks ago. @Big Mike's comments during the beta test were a big part of the decision. (And thanks for that, Mike!)

However, I will follow my usual procedure of waiting just a bit before running the upgrade, just in case. Not a long time, since it seems to have gone very well, but a week or so after the availability date. There may not be any bugs in the changeover, but I'll just give them a chance to work them out, if there are....

Bob.

I plan to make a drive image on a spare drive and use that for my Win 10 upgrade.. That way, if for some reason I don't like Win 10, I just replace the drive with the original Win 7 drive and I'm back up and running in less than 5 min..

BigMike: do you recommend a fresh install of Win 10 or is a Win7 update stable as well...(will Win 10 remove the Win 7 files after the upgrade?)...

* I hope the free Win10 upgrade on 7/29 will permit a "clean Install" with proof of Win7 ownership (Win7 disc)...and a formatted, empty hard drive...

Have you looked into the deference between Home and Enterprise versions? The free one is the home version, but the pre-released version is closer to enterprise one from what i have been told. The restart issue alone is giving me the creeps. Can we just keep the beta?

Not sure how reliable this is but from 2 days ago -

"If you already had a Professional edition of Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, don’t worry. The free upgrade offer will give you Windows 10 Professional. Otherwise, you’ll need to shell out some money if you want the below extra features."
