gadgets are gone in win 8+ but im sure there on things outside the gadget system to do what you want. even more extreme uses like Rainmeter, desktop customization tool

I have been using this one, since Win 8 came out:

8GadgetPack - Gadgets for Windows 8 / 8.1

Would be nice if it were ported to Win10...

EDIT: fully ported to Win10

Great to hear all the positive expediences with windows 10. Took me about 30 mins of trying windows 8 to conclude that it was awful, mainly due to poor navigation. Honestly don't know what they were thinking when they removed the start menu lol. Been with windows 7 since its release I've personally had no issues with it, look forward to trying out 10.

Is there a compelling reason to upgrade to Win 10 from Win 7 (being free is not compelling)?

Better kernel, more modern visuals. I'm sure there is much more for notebook users with touch displays, etc, but for traders not so much.

In my case I was having great pains with 7 so tried 10 out of desperation more than anything.

Hmm the start menu comparison isn't promising. They should keep metro separate from the desktop experience, there's no need for over sized tiles it just takes up space, it makes sense for tablets but not desktop users with large screens. It's like they are stubborn in integrating the desktop and tablet experience rather than optimizing experience for each one separately. At the very least they should make the tiles expansion optional. Still whilst it might be visually annoying it shouldn't be a big deal.

Understanding yourself is just as important as understanding markets.

"Better" kernel? Not a thing wrong with the win7 kernel, from what I can tell. Kernel is to be fast, stable, and its function invisible to the end user several layers up, which win7 is, very much so. Since I've had no issues with win7, and since the biggest selling point for windows 10 seems to be the start menu, which is now cluttered with metro stuff, I'll stick with windows 7 for now.

Wanted to say thanks for this, I am using it and it works great. Now I have my calendar, CPU meter and Network meter back. I was starting to really feel depressed without them!

Has anyone tried Task View/virtual desktops? This is one of my favorite features of *nix desktops.

I know NinjaTrader has to choose their supported OSs carefully, but I hope they and other vendors support the new desktop/server versions sooner than later.
