First off all i want to wish you a marvellous new year !

I'm still using a Win XP on a Mac BootCamp partition for my trading.
My Mac is going old, so i bought a new one.
Maybee it's also time for me to leave XP and go for the new win stuff.
I wasn't shure which windows I have to choose, but after reading some post on futures.io (formerly BMT), it seems that Windows 8 is working pretty well for most of you.
My problem is that there are many version off this Windows 8 ( 32 bits, 64 bits, 32/64 bits, Pro, Family, Oem, etc...) and i really do not know which one to choose...

I'm using NT / MC and IB.

Thanks for the help !

RH

I really don't want to go to linux.
I'm shure it's a really good OS, but i'm not a technical guy.
I just want a rock solid Windows to migrate my trading plateform.
I just don't know which version i have to choose...

Best keep it simple wolf. Have you thought about using a vps such as speedytradingservers? Half measures are always a bad idea. Plus with vps you get extra security for oco orders.

Windows 7 64-bit. You'll need 64-bit for more than 4GB of memory. Any new system should have 8GB minimum, 16GB if you do a lot of heavy multi-tasking and can justify the $150 or so extra cost.

During all this free time I have had not trading due to the Zen fire problems, I have upgraded my OS from windows 7 32 bit to Windows 8.1 64 bit. From what I have learned, the 32 bit was not utilizing all my ram (only 1/4 of it). The 64 bit version utilizes almost all my ram which leads to less crashes and faster response.
8.1 is different and has taken a few days to get used to, but I am glad I did it. My computer is much more stable and responsive.

With bootcamp it should be safer to use Win 7 64 instead of Win 8. But Win 8.1 works fine on a physical machine, and is a bit easier than version 8.
I'm a U*X guy and fluent in Linux, but using a Windows emulator like Wine for serious stuff is not a good idea.

Thanks Mike & dnkhoward2 & sam028,

I forgot the 2GB limitation with the 32 bit version.
My mac have 32 GB Ram so i assume that a 64 bit version is the right choise.
I dont want to redbate on win 8 versus Win 7.
My first intuition was Win 7, so let's go for it.

I'm still not shure about the version...

Family or Pro Version ?

Yeah I'm a *nix guy through and through too, which is why I asked the question, I wouldn't trust wine to run my trading platform but since someone suggested Ubuntu I wondered if maybe they had some info to share on that. I run Windows 7 64 bit on Bootcamp and it's fantastic.
