Does anyone trade with NinjaTrader 7 on a Macbook Air (not pro)?

I'm thinking about getting a Macbook Air, but I'd like to confirm that it can handle NT7. I would be using bootcamp and Windows 7.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have an older (2007) macbook with win 7 and NT. It does ok as far as running the program but I dont live trade with it as it only works over wifi (the CATV connection doesnt work.) and I dont want to day trade over wifi . but the program works. you might want to use a mouse if you cant get all the commands to work with the touchpad.

oh you might want to know my macbook specs:
processor 2.16 GHz intel core 2 duo
memory 1.667 GB DDR2 SDRAM

I'll bet your new macbook air exceeds those.

I use NinjaTarder with Parallels. Works for me.

I had been using a Mac Mini with dual monitors for a few years. I was running bootcamp and XP with NT6.5 and then NT7.

I'm a one screen trader these days, using an older Lenovo laptop with XP and NT7.

I would like to upgrade without going full-bore Macbook Pro. I'm just curious if anyone has tried the Macbook Air / NT7 combo.

I dont want to day trade over wifi.

You could use a USB or Thunderbolt Ethernet dongle.

Thanks for the info. I do have a windows computer I use for trading. and my mac for everything else. Because I travel a lot I take the macbook and use NT /bootcamp to study trading and occaisionally do some longer term trades. but i might look into this usb connection for other data transfers. My computer is old enough (6 years old) that I dont want to sink money into fixing it.

I've been using NinjaTrader 7 in Parallels Desktop 8 for a long time now and it's been working great. Like anything though, it will depend on how much of a 'power-user' you are. More workspaces and calculations will really put it to the test, but I found that for what I need it for most of the time it works flawlessly.

I would recommend upping to the 8gb of RAM if possible though, as having the virtual machine in addition to my other applications dips me into swap, so I could use a bit more RAM then the 4gb I have on my machine.

One year later.... are you still happy with the Mac > Parallels > NT7 combo, please ie. are there ANY glitches compared with running Ninja on a Windows machine ? Can & do you use right click functionality - I use Chart Trader to enter orders via a right click, so this is essential without having to use keyboard workarounds ?

Hi There
I have an iMac 24" from 2009 and still running perfectly well with my setup too
To make it short, it is a 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM and running OS X 10.9.3 nowadays.

I have virtualbox installed and a win7 Home Premium edition installed.
I stopped using Parallel or VMware Fusion long time ago: I prefer the simplicity and functionality of virtualbox from Oracle, plus it is a free open source software!

My setup is running IB TWS in native Mac OS X environment, and NT7 in win 7 together with MS Office and some other win softwares.

My trading platform connects to my broker API via IP addresses (networking btw the virtual machines) and I've never had any issue.
I rarely run optimisations, backtests, etc.. in NT7, but I have around 7 charts opened at the same time when trading with various time frames, instruments, etc... the real-time feed data of course, then two market analyser windows, one T&S, one Level 2 and the SuperDOM windows!

I allocate 2GB to the virtual machine and I experience no issues for my trading style and configuration.

Cheers
Fadi
