Will you be upgrading to Firefox 3.5? The final version is out any minute.

I ran 3.5 when it was called 3.1, and the reason I ended up switching back to 3.0 is because there were some add-ons that just didn't work in 3.5.

I love my addons... Screengrab, Adblock, BBcode, DownThemAll, FireFTP, gTranslate, New Tab Homepage, Prism, SkipScreen, Smart Bookmarks...

So, when 3.5 comes out I am probably going to have to check each of those one by one to make sure there is a 3.5 compatible version of the add-on before I make the switch.

Here is what's new in 3.5:

Its noticeably faster.

I'm a bit of a news junkie and get it all from 20 odd websites and the access to them is faster and some bugs are gone that used to make viewing news photo's a pain.

For me I'm glad I updated!

Yup, I upgraded just now, no issues, all the add-ons were supported.

It does seem noticeably faster.

I'm upgrading after I post this. I'm a firefox junky - love this browser and cannot stand IE (rant over)

Edit: oh yeah, it really does seem faster. I do have a couple plug-ins that aren't compatible but they weren't w/ the previous version either. Lovin' it so far.

I had to revert back to v 3.0.11. I couldn't even get 3.5 to run.

I have cursed it's name many times the last few days.... But it hasn't crashed a single time on me today (was crashing several times a day). I rebooted I think last night in a final fit of rage, maybe something was lingering between the 3.0 and 3.5 installs that a reboot cured.

We shall see...

Mike,

On FF's support site there are many people having the same problem I did; it won't open or it takes 5+ minutes to open.
Firefox 3.5 won't start

I've also been having 3.5 crash a couple times a day.
The add-on Session Manager has been very useful lately since it
will restart all the browser windows and multiple tabs you had open
when FF crashes.

'BugDay' Planned To Fix Bugs in New Firefox 3.5

Mozilla is scrambling to fix bugs in its just-released Firefox 3.5 browser. Users are posting complaints about problems across the Web.
Those problems include longer load times and crashes linked to the TraceMonkey JavaScript engine. The browser also reportedly has problems with Windows XP. Mozilla has set a community “BugDay” for July 7 to address the bugs in open-source Firefox 3.5.
Firefox 3.5.1 is expected to be released later this month to correct some of the 55 published bugs. Firefox 3.5 was released to the public on June 30, although a beta version was released in April.
Among the new features of Firefox 3.5 touted by Mozilla was speed, with the new release said to be twice as fast as Firefox 3.0 and 10 times faster than Firefox 2. Mozilla also pointed to better JavaScript performance, a new Private Browsing mode, and location-based browsing.
Firefox is available for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux and has more than 300 million active users.
The Private Browsing allows Firefox 3.5 users to protect their privacy online. In this mode, nothing viewed on the Web is stored on the user's computer.
Firefox 3.5 also has a Forget this Site feature, which allows users to remove all traces of a site from the browser. A Clear Recent History feature lets users decide what data or activity should be removed.
The Location Aware feature is optional. When turned on, it allows Web sites to provide information based on the user's location.
Firefox 3.5 also includes support for HTML 5 video and audio.

I just ran across this thread. I had upgraded to the new Firefox when it first came out also but had since taken it out completely. For some reason if I go back to an earlier version I have the same problem as the newer version which is crashes. It was crashing on me constantly during that time period and on top of that not all of the add-ons I like were available for it.

Sorry to say, I am back to IE after years of refusing to use it.
But until Firefox comes out with a less buggy version along with a tool to completely clean the older installation I'm sticking with IE.

Does anyone recommend and or have any experience with any other web browers?

Regards, NMTrader

I would use Google Chrome over IE if Firefox isn't an option. Another option is Safari.

My issue with both of these is the lack of add-ons when compared to Firefox. Google is actively addressing the problem, but right now it is in its infancy. In another year, Chrome might be a real contender against Firefox if they can get the add-ons.

What makes Firefox great are the add-ons combined with the speed of the browser.

Xzap,

If you don't need all of the extra add-ons then try Google Chrome...I have used it for about a week and am very satisfied so far.
