I am not sure if this is the right section for it but I will leave it to Mike to decide. I wanted to suggest if the contents from threads could be exported / printed as PDF then it would help souls such as myself to read them offline at our leisure. I shuttle to office and back spending approx. 2 hours and thought if only I could get to those threads to read during my trips. This will be time well spent. I do a lot of reading but I feel I still need to catch up on my reading on the site.

I am not a web techie so not sure how challenging / time intensive it is going to be. If there are other suggestions then please send it my way.

Thank you,

eone

What eone is asking would be very helpful and adding to it; is there a way to download the threads so that they can be read offline. I mean a tool to just specify the thread URL and it downloads the entire thread. Internet access is very restricted at my work and something like this will be very helpful.

Just save the threads as a complete Web page so you won't need an internet connection to view them. Go to File->Save Page as... under "Save as Type", select "Web page, complete".

Siege,

I tried what you suggested and it works. But the issue is that many threads are 50+ pages and so one has to individually save all those. I believe I might have found the answer: HTTrack Website Copier - Offline Browser.

Also there is a forum script for vBulletin that can provide this functionality, but it's something the admins have to decide upon.

If you want to save webpages to PDF, you have two ways to do so (one free, one commercial). Both methods work by "printing" to a PDF file. Basically, you go to File-> Print in your browser, and you'll see the appropriate PDF "printer". Once you print to it, another Save As dialog will appear, allowing you to save your PDF anywhere you want. This method will work across any application that allows you to print to printers, not just for web browsers.

The products are:

1) Adobe Acrobat Professional ($$$)
2) CutePDF (free, just Google it)
