Hi Keymoo, very informative and thanks for making the effort with the videos.
Any issues you found with your Sierra DOM updating on your trading VM compared to a bare metal install? Obviously there will be latency but is it in the micro or millisecond category?
I don't scalp so not that relevant but interesting to hear your feedback.
Also is there an RDP client on the ESXi server otherwise how do you RDP into your Win7 trading pc?

Dear @keymoo and @Fadi , thanks a ton for bringing up this "Virtulization of Trading Infrastructure" Topic to life.
I was thinking about doing something similar but could not take the plunge till now. But looking at this thread I have also decided to do some practical experiments in this regard. Firstly just for the sake of fun and trying it out. And if I see clear benefits in it then I will definitely implement virtualization in a systematic manner.

I still have a question for setting up my wireless network though - to teddy up things in fact and reduce the number of physical equipments continuously running 24/7. I would like to remove the Linksys wireless router all together and use the wireless card in my server to act as a router to my clients.
Do you think this is easily configurable?
So basically, I want to have the ADSL and the server connected through a single ethernet cable, two electric wires one to the server and one to the ADSL and that's all, nothing else; then one small antenna pointing out from the back of the server
My machine has 1x ethernet card that connects to the ADSL and 1x wireless adapter card that shall distribute IP's to my clients.
I will configure one VM running on CentOS 6.3 exactly as you have, so that it acts as a gateway, firewall, DHCP, DNS and caching proxy...
But I need advice as to what could be the optimal solution for configuring the wireless adapter.
1. Shall I setup a v-switch that connects to the "Carbon" VM and then create another VM that acts as a wireless router and connects to this v-switch together with all the other VM's? In that case I guess I need to setup another DHCP especially for the wireless clients, right?
2. Or shall I let the "Carbon" VM control the wireless adapter as well, and use the same DHCP service for both virtual machines and wireless clients?

You need to connect to the server from a separate machine. I do not have a monitor connected to my ESXi server because there is nothing to see. I RDP into my trading machine from my Windows 7 desktop PC.
I'm not sure about the wireless thing fadi. My gut feel is not to do it, but have a separate wireless access point to the server and connect to it over ethernet into your physical switch. I know it's an extra piece of equipment, I don't have any experience of getting ESXi to recognise wireless adapters and it's not really designed to do that. I did a quick google search and my suspicions were confirmed. There are no wireless adapters on the HCL for VMware. I'm also not sure how good a wireless card would be as an access point compared to a dedicated wireless access point. I would do it like this:
You're welcome. It's just occurred to me that your physical switch could have a wireless access point built in to it. That might be the solution for you. There are several vendors that will supply this.
