I have tried clicking on the Permalink in the upper right of a post, but not sure where it saves the post, or if this is even what that is intended for. Just wanting to save certain individual posts from various threads. Thought someone could point me in the right direction. Thank you.

The permalink is simply a permanent link to the post. A link is a URL. It has nothing to do with saving it.

You could bookmark the permalink with your browser, or use services like reddit, digg, tumblr or something similar to save the URLs to your profile with them.
