I spent three years traveling the world, and, especially after going through a couple of laptops, I found out that I needed a more permanent solution.

I set up a solution with Rackspace, which has worked like a charm. Rock solid and incredible, or should i say Fanatical (TM), support.

I've mainly used it for storage and e-mail through Exchange. It's nice to have everything synchronized.

Can you give some more details about solution like - specs, costs, what software are you using for things like email, file sync/sharing?

Like I said, I currently only use the Cloud Drive and MS Exchange with ActiveSync and I pay around $20/mo. It's easy to set up/cancel cloud severs: they charge p/h. All of the prices are listed on their site. I've been positively surprised by their support/service, especially considering the small size of my company (which consists of myself only).

I suggest you contact them directly; they can tailor nearly every solution.

Thanks Lornz. I'll contact them. Microsoft is selling hosted Exchange mailbox from Microsoft for $4 per month per user but the CloudFile looks interesting.

I've been an admin for over 15 years and I think in general running your own email and web servers is a pain in the butt. If you require specific features then yes you'll want to run your own setup, but otherwise I'm pretty happy with Google Apps for my business domains. Email, simple websites, docs, chat. Its all there.

Use IMAP if you want your email to be available offline/backed up. Pay for Google Apps and they'll no longer scan your email to produce ads.

I use virtualization (VirtualBox might work for you) for Windows desktops and general development.
