I have an issue that has been driving me crazy for quite a while, and I have tried everything to fix it. Am wondering if anyone else has seen or has ideas.

I have a newer 64-bit i7 based system running Win7 64-bit pro, with 3 monitors on Nvidia based adapters. This computer runs nothing but trading apps, so there is no BS software interfering.

Thru out the day, I will have application windows just stop updating (just the screen update). For example, a single chart window appears to be stuck and not updating. The funny thing is, the app/window is still running fine, just not updating the screen (i.e. I can click the mouse, drag stuff, and it all works under the covers). As soon as I resize the window (or iconify/restore) the window is back and updating again (and anything I did previously while frozen is there). Just bizarre.

Originally, I thought it was one particular app, but I have come to realize it is any app doing a lot of updates (I have seen Sierra/Ninja/Tradestation all affected).

I figured it had to be a video issue. I have updated drivers, no change. I even installed new ATI based adapters, no change. I have updated motherboard bios/drivers, no change. I have been thru all of the bios settings looking for something, nada.

At this point, I figure it has to be either a Windows bug, or some kind of hardware interaction issue. I have only seen this on this one system.

Looking for some ideas, before this system becomes a boat anchor.

How much RAM do you have? Have you looked at your task manager processes to see what is happening? Are the programs you are running 64 bit compatible?

Many thanks to the site and all the contributors. Great source of info.

8GB RAM, never low

PSU has plenty of power, all UPS backed up (would not think this would affect one window)

Cables are all new, and have been replaced (would not think this would affect one window)

I should also add, the system is NOT overclocked, all temps are really low.

All programs run normally, no log messages, nothing needs to be shut down. The issue can happen with one app running or a bunch. It can be a single window based app, or a single child window of a multiple window based app.

The apps running are 32-bit

with 32-bit apps 8GB Ram could be too much, try to reduce to 4GB and check.

if nothing work replace the video card preferable with some used video card to eliminate hardware as a cause.

You could try using the Windows 7 Event Viewer to see if there are any errors or warnings when the problem occurs:

Been there, done that, used different graphics chip vendor also. No difference.

For a 64-bit Win 7 system, this is a non-issue. Each app, can only use so much, but the system can use more than 4GB.
