Take this for what it's worth: VIX has been channeling at very low levels for over a month--between 15.42 and 18.42. Since July 2007 it's not been below where it closed today. The average time in the channel is about 20 days over 6 instances: shortest 8 days, longest 36. And of course the breakout has been to the upside all 6 times.
Guess we'll see if recent history repeats itself.
