For years I defended Apple against the phandroids. Apple (check that, Steve Jobs) innovated the most useful device since the personal computer. Yet the phandroids would talk about their superior hardware, bigger screens, yada yada. They may have had those things, but they simply copied a great product and made it better. Apple's phone just worked better, undeniably, in that the flow was superior, apps were more consistent, easier to use, and there was a large developer base to grow the app ecosystem.

I still defended them back in 2012 when I got my samsung galaxy nexus, which had terrible battery life but which was truly a great phone otherwise. I wanted a bigger screen, and LTE, neither of which the iPhone had at the time.

However, in the last year, and particularly as of today, I cannot defend this company any longer. They are no longer innovaters. They had one magic ingredient that no one else in the world has, and he passed away, sadly. For some reason, not in an angry way, I am disgusted when I hear Tim Cook talk. He claims that he is "excited" to announce the "most advanced" iPhone ever. Either he is lying and is not excited, or he is literally the most boring human being alive on the planet. I mean, Tim Cook is so unspirational, so sterile, so boring, so dry, so apathetic, that Janet Yellen giving the keynote today would have been an upgrade in the enthusiasm department.

I cannot wait to hear the Apple fanboys talk about how great their phones are and how they can now use them to pay for things. I've been doing this forever with my phone. Apple, welcome to mid 2012... what once was a great company is now just a shadow of what it used to be. They once innovated, now they are simply playing catch up. What they do have are loyal customers who will literally pay anything (see Mac) for hardware that is in every way inferior, and software that is good enough to make it bearable.

(the one thing I wish android phone suppliers would do is to just adopt the stock nexus look and feel, as it is superior in every way to their cheap looking alternatives)

last edit: this is not a knock on people who have iPhones. I have had them and love them. My family has them and loves them. They are good phones. But they are not original, and are not really better than other things out there.

When you ask most people who started the CD manufacturing most would say Sony, but it was Phillips.
Sony took it to the next level and the rest is history.

If you look further back, you would see that XEROX never enjoyed the same success that it once enjoyed in the early seventies when it came out with it's machines. Canon and Toshiba lead in that space today as far as I know.
Just because you come up and invent things, does not mean you will dominate the space forever.

Even Ecosystems in the end collapse because they cant be loyal and just write to one device. At first they enjoy the wave of success of the device, but sooner than later adopt to others as well.

For full disclosure I am an iPhone 5S user, and have used Samsung Android for many years.
I have switched only because of the reasonable size that the phone offers and the way interacts with our customer service application we utilize at Optimus. Android has matched the iPhone functionalities but not the way a human interacts with a machine. This is of course a subjective opinion based on my comfort of use.

That's just it. Apple is no longer innovating. They are merely playing catch up.

It doesn't mean the stock is a short. Their stock pile is formidable. I think we'll see more acquisitions by Apple and less innovation, unfortunately.

Personally, I do not own AAPL. I do, however, own GOOGL. I believe they are innovating. Sure they are also acquiring, but also clear innovation.

To me the biggest leg up Apple has is in the app department. Having designed and dealt with companies creating apps for both, Apples apps are usually better built and designed. I believe this has to do with their tight control over the app store. Apple was about creating an ecosystem that was the best to use, I am afraid in doing so they have begun to lag in every other department.

Not to knock Al Brooks, but I think he could have done the presentation better then Tim Cook.

I wouldn't know since I refuse to be forced to download the safari browser to watch the event, and apparently, even if i had, I would not have seen anything since their streaming failed.

p.s. -- bought the first Motorola Droid and never looked back.
p.s.s. -- last Apple device owned -- Apple IIe

Poor Apple. I feel bad for them. But I really don't... I do miss Steve though.

Back to trading.

We in Canada are used to this but it is still funny when silly mistakes are made in American advertising

1. They make it look like Vancouver Island somehow is joined to British Columbia with a lake between the island and mainland

2. Calgary is lower down and to the west of Edmonton.

3. the most hilarious mistake is the placement of Ottawa (our nation's capital city no less)... I know, I know...having lived in Toronto they think the country revolves around them but REALLY!!! Ottawa is the capital of the country.

4. I think Kingston is the city which was assigned to Toronto

5. Quebec is a PROVINCE .... not a city. It should read Quebec City (interesting enough Google maps makes the same mistake)

6. Finally it is St. John's...not St. Johns in Newfoundland...

So funny..................

Hi again ladies and gents,

I'm with Mike in that they won't be going down anytime soon due to stellar sales. There are more than enough iPhone users upgrading to the 6 that their next ER will be a gain. I'm planning to buy some options contracts on the long side to sell shortly after their ER.

The company itself is starting to set itself up for a fall now I think. It might not happen this year but there's a chance of a correction happening next year when the people that upgrade to the latest iPhone because it's the latest run out. Another point to watch the news for is to see how quickly the credit card information in iPhone 6 series get stolen. Or how long before the 6 gets a jailbreak. Whichever comes first would be an indicator of whether their security was ramped up or not. I also don't see too many Apple Watches being sold either. Something I consider an oddity is their decision to change from i<names> to Apple <names> for their products. Looks like Apple is changing as a company. But might not necessarily be in the direction iPhone fans want.
