Welcome to futures io.

Welcome, Guest!

This forum was established to help traders (especially futures traders) by openly sharing indicators, strategies, methods, trading journals and discussing the psychology of trading.

We are fundamentally different than most other trading forums:

  • We expect our members to participate and become a part of the community. Help yourself by helping others.

Underexposed View Post
there is always a speculative rise before Apple's announcements....I think that the proof in the pudding is not that they will announce iPhone 6 since to not do so would be a calamity of epic proportions since it has been announced so long ago. But it will be interesting to see if they are able to deliver the product in a timely manner.

No news has come out about the screen issues of iPhone 6....there are supposed to be problems with eliminating a layer in order to make it thinner. Then you have the small version and larger version...Since when was bigger better??? I suppose they are meeting the"phablet" market

These days everything is leaked before hand. There are already pictures of the iPhone 6 on the internets. Every single year, every release there are always articles saying that there may be delays; it's too difficult to build, the company is not the same without Steve, it's all going to hell, etc... With the word may you can write any article you want to get clicks, those "there may be delays" articles are obligatory it seems.

Bigger is not about "better" but filling different needs. One size fits all does not fit all. I personally held up on upgrading my 4s last year waiting for a bigger screen, the upcoming 4.7" looks nice for me. My sister likes the small one, like it was before it got longer. My father has bad vision so he likes the huge screen of the Galaxy Note which is I don't know, 5.5"? They are expanding the market. Everyone I know that switched to Android says the same thing, they wanted a bigger screen. Apple's perfectionism has them moving at a snails pace, imo. Finally the bigger screen arrives... 2 years later.

It's a long read but here's the report from TDA:

I think the iPhone 6 is too little too late compared to Android. However, the real kicker here is the installed base of users that will upgrade to iPhone 6 simply because of their existing app purchases and ecosystem, and not because the phone is actually any good.

With that in mind, I believe the sales will be stellar.

As for the Apple Watch, it looks like junk to me. The Moto 360 and LG G Watch R look superior to me, but I am not a buyer of this device in this market. Maybe in two years.

What does the stock do? My guess is go up, based on strong iPhone 6 sales. But should the sales turn out to be less than stellar, I would expect a stiff correction on the stock. My general feeling was they are not innovating as well as a company after Steve's death, and are falling more behind. We also didn't see the new Apple TV integrated device and I don't think an iWatch is enough to fuel the fire.

Apple Pay is the interesting idea. (Again not really innovating there).

Sure, and if you want to compare a brand new phone to a brand new phone, look at the Moto X 2014.

Motorola Moto X (2014) review | The Verge

You can customize it a million ways, plus it has superior hardware.

Apple iPhone 6 vs. Motorola Moto X (2014) - GSMArena.com

5.2" screen vs the iPhone 6 4.7" and only slightly larger physically. 1920x1080 screen like the "iPhone 6 Plus".

Speaking of the iPhone 6 plus 5.5", here is a comparison against the new Moto X:

Apple iPhone 6 Plus vs. Motorola Moto X (2014) - GSMArena.com

To really highlight how bad the iPhone 6 hardware is... Approx 18 months ago, I purchased the LG Optimus G Pro and it's been my daily driver. It's a 5.5" screen like the iPhone 6 plus. It's 1920x1080. Same pixel density. etc etc etc.

Apple iPhone 6 Plus vs. LG Optimus G Pro E985 - GSMArena.com

And that was 18 months ago.

Oh the newer the phone you compare it to the worst. Graphic was just welcoming iFans to their 'future'.

(I own and love my iPad 1 although it now cannot run all the new apps because I can't upgrade past iOS 5.1.) I will probably shell out for a new iPad and give my kid this one for Christmas.

For years I defended Apple against the phandroids. Apple (check that, Steve Jobs) innovated the most useful device since the personal computer. Yet the phandroids would talk about their superior hardware, bigger screens, yada yada. They may have had those things, but they simply copied a great product and made it better. Apple's phone just worked better, undeniably, in that the flow was superior, apps were more consistent, easier to use, and there was a large developer base to grow the app ecosystem.

I still defended them back in 2012 when I got my samsung galaxy nexus, which had terrible battery life but which was truly a great phone otherwise. I wanted a bigger screen, and LTE, neither of which the iPhone had at the time.

However, in the last year, and particularly as of today, I cannot defend this company any longer. They are no longer innovaters. They had one magic ingredient that no one else in the world has, and he passed away, sadly. For some reason, not in an angry way, I am disgusted when I hear Tim Cook talk. He claims that he is "excited" to announce the "most advanced" iPhone ever. Either he is lying and is not excited, or he is literally the most boring human being alive on the planet. I mean, Tim Cook is so unspirational, so sterile, so boring, so dry, so apathetic, that Janet Yellen giving the keynote today would have been an upgrade in the enthusiasm department.

I cannot wait to hear the Apple fanboys talk about how great their phones are and how they can now use them to pay for things. I've been doing this forever with my phone. Apple, welcome to mid 2012... what once was a great company is now just a shadow of what it used to be. They once innovated, now they are simply playing catch up. What they do have are loyal customers who will literally pay anything (see Mac) for hardware that is in every way inferior, and software that is good enough to make it bearable.

(the one thing I wish android phone suppliers would do is to just adopt the stock nexus look and feel, as it is superior in every way to their cheap looking alternatives)

last edit: this is not a knock on people who have iPhones. I have had them and love them. My family has them and loves them. They are good phones. But they are not original, and are not really better than other things out there.

To me the biggest leg up Apple has is in the app department. Having designed and dealt with companies creating apps for both, Apples apps are usually better built and designed. I believe this has to do with their tight control over the app store. Apple was about creating an ecosystem that was the best to use, I am afraid in doing so they have begun to lag in every other department.

Not to knock Al Brooks, but I think he could have done the presentation better then Tim Cook.
